And Salmond didn't divide the nation, it was already divided. The referendum just shone a light on that. If 45% wanted independence last year then don't expect the issue just to disappear. Politics doesn't work like that. We'll continue as the majority want but there will be a split for many many years to come and I do think we will go independent in future judging by the voting of the under 50s (and my guess that the disparity will increase in future between different parts of the UK) if we ever get the chance (and I question whether independence was ever really on the cards having seen the stops that were pulled out last time).
Quite happy to continue as we are for now but I'll be voting for independence if I ever get the chance again. The UK is simply too disparate and divided to hold together. The average Scot is at one place politically and the average southern English person is at the other end of the scale. Both parts of the country face completely opposite problems. They fear immigration, we probably need it. 71% of new private businesses start in the South East. More than any statistics the thing that convinces me more than anything is the rhetoric in national newspapers which is rather sneering and condescending. If the national press are going to go there then I think the idea of holding that together in union is foolish. And the attached comments on these "articles" are worse. The level of abuse really is shameful. Possibly only the British Muslim population has had more abuse in recent years. I was neutral before the referendum but reading the press moved me towards being pro-independence as I can't see the point in union with people so sneering towards half the people in a nation (and often that nation itself). You'd have to be a grand masochist to think that's a healthy union.

A BBC spokesperson said: “As we said at the time, we believe our coverage of the referendum was rigorously impartial and in line with our guidelines on fairness and impartiality.”
The BBC is in denial.
BBC censorship rigged the Scottish independence referendum
Censorship of British Scots who support Scottish independence
Censorship of republicans who support Scottish independence
Censorship of independence supporters who opposed the approach of the official “YES Scotland” campaign
Censorship of independence supporters who opposed the Edinburgh Agreement which ruled out a 2-state solution, establishing an independent Scottish state whatever the result of the indyref
The BBC censored the British case for Scottish independence and against the United Kingdom which is a republican case for a Scottish republic and against the kingdom elsewhere in Britain because the BBC institutionally censors republicans and promotes the monarchy and kingdom.
The BBC also claims to be “fair and impartial” so the first words out of a republican on the BBC is to point out that the BBC is in denial about its pro-monarchy, anti-republican bias.
The BBC is unwilling to allow the pointing out of its own lies (that it is “impartial” etc) in its own broadcasts.
So there hasn’t even been a first fully free and fair referendum.
So all this talk of a “second” referendum is misleading unless someone is allowed on TV to expose how the first indyref was rigged.
We need a first, free and fair indyref – that we were robbed of.
I propose that Nicola Sturgeon be appointed the first Director-General and Editor-in-Chief of BBC Scotland (perhaps renamed to “Scottish Broadcasting Corporation / SBC”) under the new charter.
Who better to defend the editorial independence of the SBC than the First Minister?

Hi Chris.
Interesting point of view shown by your comments.
Of course, if you compare against the output from the London media, you are correct.
However, with a little effort, most of the points are incorrect.
Oil....this was never the foundation of an independent Scotland, and never will be.
The drop in the oil price makes no difference to Scotland's ability to be a be an economically successful independent Country.....it was only ever seen as about 16% of the economy (except by the London media)
Labour brought the country to its knees....Actually they didnt.
The conservatives have added £7trillion to the UK national debt over the last 5 years, doubling it.
Why isnt this all over the media.....why arnt the media holding them to account for this.....a bit self evident I think.
Oil price drops and the Scottish Government asking for a bailout?
Actually, Holyrude were merely looking for good fiscal policy which should have been applied to many areas of industry as has happened in the USA.
Financial stimulus to stimulate growth and create/protect jobs.
What do the Conservatives do?
Give the money to the banks and the City in the hope hope that there will be some spillage as they wheel their barrows of cash around London.
If you rely on the Tory media to inform you, you will simply get the Tory message.

So, by your typical unionist logic, Anne, now that Tories have won GE, no need ever for another one, right? It's been decided forever more. If at first you don't succeed used to teach kids that not giving up if you lose is a desirable trait in life. Except if you support Indy, it seems. Then you should just stay on your knees and stay quiet. ;)

I'm sick to the back teeth of this question being asked over and over again. We had a referendum, the people voted NO so suck it up and move on. The SNP were hardly lily white in the lead up to the last referendum, all I heard was pie in the sky policies and 'potential' this 'potential' that. A future based on oil, and look what happened there, the minute the oil price dropped they were screaming at Westminster to bale them out!!! This is a United Kingdom, long may it remain so, it wasn't a Tory government that brought the country to it's knees it was Labour, and not for the first time. I wasn't frightened into voting NO, I believe this country is better together . . . end of.

Yes i think we should have another referendum after the farce of the last one with all the lies and scaremongering by the tory and labour goverments and it's only going to get worse with cameron making all this cuts to the disabled and familys on low income remember the lies about oil running out and they have a new oil field on stream only the snp cares about scotland

Typically abusive reaction Anne. I don't believe the poll either, nor any polls to be fair. You'll be delighted that George has announced £500m for Faslane and its fictitious 6500 employees when there are people dying from benefit cuts and doing their weekly shop at food banks?
Even you can surely see that what was 'promised' pre referendum has not been, nor is likely to be, fulfilled?
I'm very pro Indy but not so keen on a knee jerk ref #2 just yet. Firmly believe there were answers given (currency, military etc) that people were just too bloody minded to not ingest. This needs to be very carefully thought out and presented.
Calling half the country imbeciles is hardly cricket and shows your level of intellect as that of a complete fanny.

Not believing the results of this poll.
The referendum was taken.. it was decided.. PAST TENSE.
It is something that CAN NEVER BE UNDONE if it goes ahead... and the imbicels who are pushing it never answered any pertinent questions AT ALL at the time... can they answer all of those questions now?

"Imbicels"? Now that's ironic!
