I understand where Demetria is coming from. My "no" vote is within the context of the 1984 rules which don't really differ from the 2015 rules. The issue with that article is, as Karen said, it was all opinion. So I looked at the Miss America website and here are the requirments to be a contestant.
To compete you must
Be between the ages of 17 and 24.
Be a United States citizen.
Meet residency requirements for competing in a certain town or state.
Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization.
Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements.
Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by the local program in which you compete.
So according to requirement 4 regarding "character criteria" Vanessa Williams was out of order and her should have been de-crowned. There is no way that Miss America has "nude photos allowed" in their list of attributes of a contestant. It still isn't allowed. I understand that it was embrassing as hell for Vanessa Williams and her family but that doesn't change the rules of the competition. This whole situation is a mix of digging up old tweets AND liyng on your job application.
The next complicated layer of this is the fact that Williams was under the impression that the photos would not be released. So as she filled out her Miss America app she obviously didn't mention her photoshoot because "Why, those are private?" It's messy. Very very messy. So messy that I can see why MA doesn't have to apologize according to thier own rules and see how it was public sex shaming to Williams. Pageant contests are regularly sex shaming with requirements of no marriage and never having had a child on the list of rules to compete. I love that they apologized but Ican see why they didn't have to do it.
In other news I hope the Muslim flight attendant gets ALL the money. Matt Damon is lost to Fake AllyLand and TSwift is no where near MJ's level. We haven't disagreed in a while so let's just mark this our "one" for the year. Lol love you both!
