I like the idea of a 3 game series, hosted at the team with the better record against common opponents. Make it a classic double-header (okay, even a split) on one day, with the deciding game the next day, if necessary. A 1 game playoff is an insult to the teams, and to baseball fans. Exciting, yes, but a good indicator of who deserves to move on, no.
