It's called working the system. Wrecking the 21 car was what he had to do.

  • John mcdonald - 8 years ago

Harvick has proven Tim and time again that he is a gutless punk. He started last year pushing kezlowski. Now this year pushing jimmy Johnson. Now he wrecks bayne. Someone needs to kick his ass Or just run into the wall repeatedly. Of and by the way nascar. Once is an accident ,twice is on purpose

  • Past Fan - 8 years ago

Nascar is a joke! They cannot call a race they are always changing the rules to play in there favor. I am done waisting my time and money watching fixed races.

  • Ray-ray - 8 years ago

Mentality it do what ever it takes to get in the chase. Harvick's could have went to the bottom knowing he had problems with his car but he also new that creating a caution would put him in the chase.
    Lost all respect for him.
Sad the higher ups didnt do anything about it, but they didn't want a firestorm of controversy. Well they got it now.

We have the video, we have the in-car chatter, we have the views of those behind him (Bain, Kenseth, Hamlin) we have 10 or more torn up race cars. Does anyone remember the deal with Michael Waltrip racing. Harvick manipulated the chase, plan and simple. Again NASCAR plays favorites and is not interested in giving the fans a good show. If Helton could not see that, something is terribly wrong with his judgment and eye sight. He has to go. I'll start watching professional wresting from now on. At least they don't try to hide their bias.

  • Ann - 8 years ago

Mike Helton you are unbelivable you should retire and go home . we should go back racing like we did a few years ago its the honest way .

  • mary gregory - 8 years ago

happy should have been black flagged because it was apparent there was going to be trouble...he was riding around dega at speeds well below what he should have been...however hats off to joey logano...he races to win...once again mr most popular driver disappoints his loyal fan base in bama ...no skin off his nose he is still gonna pull in 20 plus million again this year doing what he has always done...that being nothing but being a mouthpiece for the powers that be nascar...nascar should be held accountable for this mess...get rid of chase racing... problem solved

  • DM - 8 years ago

As much as I like Harvick as a driver I believe he did it intentionally. He is one of the top drivers but just couldn't take failure so created his own sucess.

  • JC - 8 years ago

Nascar has their favorite and the one they want to win before the race. I will not watch the rest of the chase

  • teresa hammontree - 8 years ago

Harvick, had to have known that he would potentially cause a big one when he was not able to get up to speed. I am not in his head, but i would like to hear the radio communications of Harvick's car in the back stretch. He knew he had to do something to place or be out of the chase,i think he knew what he was doing

  • John Graham - 8 years ago

Kevin Harvick seems to be one of the sharpest drivers out there and I'm sure he had thought a lot about what he would do, near the end of the race, to help keep himself in the chase if it came down to that. However, it seems that everyone is overlooking who is really at fault here - NASCAR!! Who came up with the unbelievable STUPID idea to change the rule on green - white - checker finishes at this point in the season. The teams had competed with the same rule, all season long, and the, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to change the rule and that allowed a driver like Harvick to manipulate a finish that would be favorable to himself. If they had left the original rule alone, all his dirty trick would have done was put him to the rear after the accident he caused, or in the garage with a wrecked or broken down car, and Junior and some others might have made it into the chase field for next week. Plus, it might have kept Joey Lagano out of Victory Lane, which he deserved last week after wrecking Matt.

  • Robin - 8 years ago

Always a bunch of drama queens wanting to create drama....I think nascar officials know their job and called it.....and furthermore Kevin seems to be to cool to play games like some of the others I could mention

  • chuck - 8 years ago

He should be out the chase , does anyone remember the Clint Boyer deal a couple years ago
    the SAME THING

  • Sally - 8 years ago

Stop crying. Whether, Harvick did it on purpose or not is moot. With the way that Newman toasted Larson last year, then Logano last week shows that NASCAR has blinded eyes when it comes to actual Chase members being on borderlines and that should be so. Lets make you all mad the race season should be 26 races long for the none Chasers and the last 10 races run like an all star race 16 chasers competing against one another with zero none chasers on the track. after 9 races the top 4 advance for a shoot out at Homestead. I fully expect the 20 to take out Joey often and while they are at it take the 2 with them. The only reason why this current chase format is like this is because RP forced it on them to make sure that his team has a better then 50 percent of winning no matter what.

  • Pat - 8 years ago

Leave Harvick alone. He didn't do anything that the rest of them wouldn't have done!!

  • NOT-NASCAR-FAN-ANYMORE - 8 years ago

I totally agree with idleone They Totally Ran Biffle Out Of GAS so he wouldn't win the race any other time it would of been a RED FLAG or they would of went to pit road

  • Mark - 8 years ago

Nascar should have black flagged Kevin after the first restart because it was obvious he could not maintain minimum speed. That is an enforceable rule that would have avoided this whole situation.

  • idleone - 8 years ago

the real loser in this baffle. they should brought the cars on pit lane while they were cleaning up the track. I think they intenionaly ran him out of gas. I think he would have won that race. I guess he isn't popular enough.

  • #4 Fan - 8 years ago

Seems we all forget the 22 taking the 20 out last week for a win he didn't need or when the 2 took the 24 out last year at Texas and how bout the 31 taking out the 42 at Phoenix to transfer and knock the 24 out of the chase. It's racing boys and any of your drivers would have done whatever it took to make it to the next round. Personally i don't think he pulled into anyone.......watch the in car video and then talk your trash....especially you arm chair racers that don't their _ss from a hole in the ground.

  • Nick - 8 years ago

You guys should do some homework. On the first restart Kevin pulled to the right wall, right away, and there just happened to be an accident throwing the caution flag before the line. On the final restart, Kevin said he was going to see if he could get it going, it didn't go, so he "tried" to pull out of the way causing the big one, ending the race.

On his radio -- Nascar posted this, and I listened to it myself -- their entire crew knew he was blowing up. On the first GWC once the caution flag was thrown and he was going around the track, he knew he could stay alive like that. Talking on his radio to his team, his crew chief said unless the field wrecked just passed the start-finish line, he would be out of the chase. So Kevin knew unless something drastic happened on the final restart he would be out of the chase. Kevin then said he was going to stay in line and see if he could get it going, and well obviously he didn't get it going. One of his team members suggested he could block as many spots as possible. Quite honestly the only way I could believe Kevin(4) driving up into Trevor(6) was an accident, was to block Matt Kenseth(20) from getting passed him. Even then Kevin has pulled this stuff before saying he didn't see him there, before he drove into other driver's left rear quarterpanel and spun them out. Nascar said the only thing in question right now is, why did he move out of line?

Personally I have the answer right here. This quote is taken directly from the nascar website, with the link below.

"I was just trying to get out of the way once I got going there," Harvick told FOX Sports after the race. "I thought I could get going better than I did the first time and I just didn't get going. So as I was pulling up, I was looking to the inside waiting for them to shoot the gap and I hit the 6."

I beg to differ, if you watch his in car footage from the final restart, you can clearly see the cars driving away from him out the front windshield. The entire time, he is glancing to the RIGHT, NOT LEFT. He clearly sees Trever Bane(6) on the side of him. During the entire start he is bobbing the steering wheel left and right, while glancing at the right side mirror. His motor was done, he was barely alive at that point, he defintely wasn't spinning his tires. So my conclusion from all if this is that the wreck was intentional. Even if he was looking directly at his mirror there is this thing called peripheral vision. If you can't see that Trevor(6) is there and Matt(20) already has his nose in next to you, then he should not be racing at all, because there is obviously something wrong with his vision, as this is not the first time it happened. The video link is below, I suggest you watch it.

I agree with the majority Nascar made a wrong call. I have noticed for some time now that certain drivers are favored to win and if it appears they will not something happens like this. If it had been Brad K or Joey L, They would have been penalized. It's like watching Ring A Round The Rosy with Jimmy Johnson and his followers. It's not racing any longer.

  • EdM - 8 years ago

Of course he did not purposely wreck. Just like Earnhardt never used to purposely fall to the back of the pack for the restart of the allstar shootout.

  • john goodwin - 8 years ago

kevin is a two faced coward. he knows dam good and well he wreck Trevor on purpose. to save his points.
believe me if it would have happened to him he would be raising hell,or trying to fight someone!!
he screwed dale jr out of his win and let joey buck tooth bitch boy win the race. Denny should kick kevins ass as well. I hope kevin gets what's coming to him in the next race. I cant wait for someone to put him in the wall.
    # 4 sucks!!!

  • Giant Catfish - 8 years ago

Apparently people like to comment without actually watching what happened. There was a restart where there was a crash and NASCAR waved off that restart saying it didn't count because the cars did not reach the start finish line. Harvick pulled out of line to the right to let cars pass so he wouldn't cause a crash. On the next restart, he did the same thing, or attempted to. The only one who didn't have a clue what was going on was Bayne (6 car) who chose to pass on the right. That is exactly where Harvick went on the first restart. Harvick was damned no matter what he did. If he doesn't pull over people slam him for not getting out of the way. TWICE he attempted to get out of the way and people still slam him

  • Ed Posey - 8 years ago

It was blatantly obvious the 4 turned into the 6. The 6 was almost past the 4 car or how else would the 4 been able to turn the 6 by hitting him in the left rear quarter panel. For some to say the drivers don't know where they are in the standings is crap. They are talking with there people the whole race. He may not know exactly where they are at in the standings but it is close enough, its just math and they seem to do it pretty well. I feel sorry that JR. got screwed out of a win by NASCAR. I am undecided as to whether I will continue to watch anymore races. I want to support JR I just don't want to support NASCAR anymore. NASCAR needs to quit changing the rules in the middle of the season. It sure looks pretty obvious they are manipulating the outcome championship. SHAME ON YOU NASCAR!!!

  • Steve - 8 years ago

I don't mind the chase, but don't like the elimination part of it...I think it brings the ugly out, like Bowyer spinning, Newman t-boning Kyle Larson, and yesterday...that was a joke. Fans want the best cars to advance and now we have the 4, which clearly wasn't one of them. I don't mind him staying out, but should've been up to the wall immediately and hoped for the best. No class at all and Nascar is ok in advancing him. I'm a JJ and Carl fan and neither of them would've done that...no way! You win and you lose with class. I don't mind a guy moving a guy if he' s faster when fighting for a win, but this crap that is happening now is irritating and getting old! So what's going to happen at Homestead if JGR, Hendrick, and SHR all have a car....first team to crash the other three win? What a joke! How about the best team and car win...there's a thought!!! Tell you what, there are KH fans who say he didn't do it on purpose, but I'll be embarrassed to be a Nascar fan if he's holding the trophy again this year! Carl's gesture to TS after losing the championship made me proud to be a follower of his and Nascar, but yesterday offsets that! Not excited for next weeks race at all, which is sad, but maybe if I tune in I'll get to see some racing and get to see the best cars racing for a win, without the side show!!

  • Eddie - 8 years ago

This is the reason I do not watch NASCAR anymore. It is not fun! I always like when they all just went racing. No controversy. Oh well. When you change your style of racing I will come back. I am into Formula One now. That is racing with no controversy. Cheers!

  • Dana Parkhurst - 8 years ago

I used to watch my father get upset about the dirty ref's on pro wrestling. now I wonder if I'm watching the same think. these finishes and what is allowed to happen seems to be scripted by NASCAR.
remember last year when Waltrip was busted for his driver letting a team mate benefit with points he didn't need. Team mates have always allowed each other lead a lap or in Gordon's fist Championship I think it was when the team started Buckshot Jones if I'm correct for the final race and championship when the final race was at Talladga. and he dropped out first lap sealing Gordon's Championship. NASCAR wonders what they need to do to improve in attendance. The answer is stop chasing away the fans. And yes he should have been black flagged because he had no chance to be competitive. but NASCAR bites the big one. I mean likes the big one. And he did do it on purpose because NASCAR set up the rules. so he could. Please add the points under the original system so we know who the real champion is. because without that Earnhardt and Petty's championship mean nothing. BUT THEY WERE THE REAL RACERS.

  • Bill General - 8 years ago

maybe if NASCAR would stop screwing with the rules, points, the stupid chase, things would be fine...
go back to the old days, the current state of the sport has me questioning my ticket renewals, I am about ready to abandon this circus...

  • Dan - 8 years ago

Harvick cost Jr a win and I think he drives for him in the xfinity series , no loyalty.

  • Thebatt - 8 years ago

The real question here is why didn't NASCAR black flag the 4 car before any attempt at GWC? For safety reasons a driver must be able to maintain a minimum speed to stay on the track. According to Harvick he could barely move forward and the officials new about it.

  • Tony - 8 years ago

Harvick tried to do the same thing he did on the previous restart, move to the outside so he didn't hold cars up. Bayne just happened to get there quicker.

  • Snaurg - 8 years ago

Nascar created all this crap with this STUPPPPPPPPED play off.
Two races two intentional wrecking other cars either to eliminate others or to advance them self.
What Lagono did to Mat K was worse than what Kevin did. Although both were bad deal.
This time Jr was the biggest loser and by Jr being eliminated this way How many fans did they just send to watch football now instead of the race. Can you say 1.2 mil just on Jr Twitter alone.
Of the Drivers we want to watch the most now all but one is out. JJ, Dale Jr, Mat, Denny, Truex (a good story this year), Kyle B just squeaked in, Jeff is now the only reason to watch now and bet some one will wreck him now soon no one wants to have to race him at Homested. Logono will probably try to wreck Jeff before then.
Auto racing does NOT work with a play off system like stick and ball. The intentional wrecking some one hasn't even started yet watch the next four races. Going to see a lot more of that now. Just hope no one gets hurt.
Why do idiots Like France and Helton keep trying to reinvent the wheel? This whole case crap is just that CRAP. Is only getting more stupid all the time. Oh well like Larry the cable guy says YA CAN'T FIX STUPID.

  • PaulW - 8 years ago

First I work part time for NASCAR, 2nd I know most of the drivers. With that said I know the ever changing system NASCAR uses, and even if Harvick wanted to cause a wreck, he would have NO WAY of knowing the scoring outcome, he could have been below the cut line depending on how many spot he "could" lose or "gain'.
By just trying to get a finish in a car one cylinder down, would be his best chance. So I think we got it right, Did Joey dump Matt last week.......YES, but that is considered part of racing when you decide to block. On the first attempt that call was also right, NO driver crossed the start-finish line with the green flag waving, only the yellow was waved, so there was NO RESTART. When they finally got the track clean " and in my opinion" it took too long and Biffle finally ran out of gas, NASCAR saw three cars cross the start-finish line under green before the wrecks were determined to be blocking the track and the yellow thrown. Race over. Harvick could have been rear ended, turned or anything and would have been out of the next round. So know way he could know the points outcome, when it took NASCAR an hour to figure it out themselves with replays.

  • Rich - 8 years ago

What I saw was on the first attempt when Johnson & Larson got turned Harvick was up by the wall to let cars by, then when he saw a chance to make it in the next round he chose to ruin everybody year to get to the next round by hooking Bayne. I predict if NASCRAP does not take Harvick out of the chase the next 4 races may be interesting to see if one the drivers do it for NASCRAP. Watch your back Logano don't get to close to the 20 car!

  • angela - 8 years ago

Harvick should be ashamed that he had to cheat ~to move out of the way because your car was a piece of shit~like you should have~to then take someone out the way he did is sooooo wrong!!!~
I think Nascar should take him out of the chase for this!!!!~
they want to implement all these new rules~well how about doing something for this~
Nascar likes to pick and choose who they will punish~like taking Truexs time away because he went below
    the yellow line!!!~
Nascar is going to loose fans if they keep this kind of stuff up!!!~
It takes away the enjoyment for all of us!!!!~
    Pathetic!!!!~
He should have been black flagged!!!~they had no problem Black flagging Hamlin~even though he did the
right thing and came into the pits to fix his car!!!!~
Just another Black Eye for Nascar!!!!~
Jr is the one who got screwed buy this!!!!~

  • Vicki - 8 years ago

I am getting very upset with NASCAR for the BULLS@$$T on the rules and favoritism. I agree with you that the video replay clearly shows Harvick did it own purpose because he wouldn't have finished the race and would have been out!!!NASCAR needs to do something about it and while they are at it they need to STOP counting down last laps caution's and give them drivers a chance to race from whatever lap the caution was on, I've always hated how they do that. EARNHARDT JR. WOULD HAVE WON THIS RACE , because he would have outdriven Joey L. He a much better race car driver. If Earnhardt wasn't racing in this sport, I know a lot of people that would not even be watching because of NASCARS bullcrap!!!!! Still have a lot more bitching to do but i'll stop here.

  • D T - 8 years ago

Firstly, this rule change should never have been called without more thought. Secondly, no one made a big deal of Logano doing the same the week before. Pushing the guy ahead of you if he's blocking? OK. Tapping him in the left rear corner of the quarter panel when he easily could have gotten around him?Not in my book. I say if Harvick did wrong, you'd better go back and investigate Logano's clearly intentional move to take Kenseth out. I also might add if Bayne's spotters didn't tell him Harvick was going to the high side, that's Baynes spotters fault. They knew Harvick couldn't go. I also might add, if Harvick's was intentional, why did he go high the first time to let the cars get by? He had nothing to gain anyway. Regardless of everything else, there was only one car that could have taken Harvick out and that would have been Earnhardt by winning the race. 3 cars in the chase were already doomed when the first caution at the end went down.

  • Louis McCluer - 8 years ago

Harvick went up into Bayne, there's no doubt. You can see that on all the replays, including his own in car! He was also told to block as many cars as he could by his crew chief. Harvick may be a jerk, as he has proven many times, but he is smarter than many think. He knew his car was toast, and it should have been black flagged after the first restart because it could not maintain let alone get up to speed. But he and his crew chief knew if that if he finished last because of his car, he was out of the chase. Now the great part- NASCAR won't do crap about it. Just like the oil on the track two races ago, just like Lagano last week, just like suddenly coming up with a one GWC, instead of the same three that's been in effect for a long time. So what the drivers knew that, they certainly couldn't do anything about it, that was the "new" rule.

  • Jeff Adkins - 8 years ago

Haha.. GO HARVICK! I absolutely love all of the haters!
He DID WHAT HE H A D T O to stay in the chase! If any of you were in his situation, you'd do the EXACT same thing.. if you didn't then you ARE NOT a competitor!

    GO HARVICK.. WIN ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

  • richard - 8 years ago

I am assuming everyone forgot about last week when that was certainly intentional.of course thats what happens when you let kids race with adults.gwc was done wrong also, did not like the special rule.

  • Tomt - 8 years ago

Same thing as MWR needs to be put out of the chase his car should be scored at the end of the field. Nascar has forgotten MWR.

  • Shawn - 8 years ago

I'm a Hamlin fan and it obviously stinks that he didn't make it to the third round. But I'm proud that Hamlin didn't go as LOW as Harvick did and start trying to wreck other drivers so it could possibly benefit him. Hamlin had the opportunity while he was being lapped while making roof flap repairs, but Hamlin chose to race honest. Hopefully next year Hamlin, keep your head up!!! Nothing will happen to Harvick, NASCAR is too scared to make a Command decision against the defending Champion, bottom-line TOO SCARED!!!! If it would have been his soon to be teammate here in a couple years Bowyer do that, Bowyer would have been black flagged and sent to the NASCAR trailer immediately and Newman would be in the chase and Bowyer would be out. Blows my mind how NASCAR favors some drivers. Thanks NASCAR way to do the right thing and set the example!!!!!!!!

  • Bill Armstrong - 8 years ago

You can see the #4 turn in to the #6 as the 6 got by the 4. The repercussions may have been unintended, but the contact was not an accident.

  • Jon - 8 years ago

I think this is similar to what happened when MWR tried to influence the chase; Harvick should be penalized and the chase round should be extended for one week because JR had a chance to get past Logano and he needed the win.

  • Thomas Crowley - 8 years ago

There is no doubt that Kevin wrecked Bayne to prevent Kevin from being nearly in last place. MASCAR must do something to penalize him.

  • mitchell wall - 8 years ago

NASCAR is becoming more of a joke with each passing season. It's a shame, but there's not really much that will be done about it.

  • Deno Anderson - 8 years ago

Anyone watching knew that Harvick's car was done. Wrecking the field was his only chance. If NASCAR does not do anything this will not be the last time it will happen and obviously will prove why this type of a Chase format rigs the outcome for anyone that is willing to cheat when it should be about the driver's ability to race not wreck the field. YOUR CALL NASCAR! If you don't make it right somebody will eventually get hurt as a result.

  • Barry - 8 years ago

NASCAR should have Black Flagged the number 4 earlier for driving too slow.

(Notice I said the "number 4), you never here this idiot call his fellow drivers by their name, only by their number).

  • GERALD ADAMS - 8 years ago

JR the one got scrued should have been like all races 3 GWC FASTEST CAR ON THE TRACK HE HAD LOGONO BY 3/4 OF A CAR . NO WAY THEY COULD HAVE COUGHT HIM. ANOTHER F UP BY NASCAR.

  • skin - 8 years ago

Harvick is a pretty sharp guy. When his crew chief informed him that he needed to block as many cars as he could; the smartest way to do this was to take some of them out of play. You can't really block anyone when your engine is sick so it was the only way to get him in to the next round. TV replay showed him looking in his mirrors on the restart and when he saw the number 6 car passing him on the right, he waited until he could turn into its rear fender to create the pile up that followed. Nascar initially did not see anything evidentiary to prove intent but make no doubt about it that they suspect this was the intent....not enough to change the outcome but a sure bet that some additional rule changes are forthcoming.

  • Randy Stewart - 8 years ago

All NASCAR had to do was look at the replay, and see that Kevin turned right, to hit/spin Bayne, and still they got it wrong. Very disappointed with NASCAR! What a gutless move and (non) call!
