Don't sleep on the Claudia O'Doherty appearances! I loved Romantic Tommy D and she has become one of those guests that are an indicator of a great show due to her great chemistry with the Choctaw

My apologies to Scott Aukerman - don't want to offend him because I am a big fan of Comedy Big Bug. But I want to clarify an earlier post that I am sure seemed strange or rubbed people the wrong way.

Not that anyone cares - but I want to explain further for the guest who paid himself to be on Be My Guest Literally. I take immigration very seriously, and I support our Central & South American Brother & Sisters who have been unfairly treated, but sometimes people from the better classes of England can be given unfair, preferential treatment (he traveled as a kid so his parents must have money) - for example I know of a just turned 21 yr old Englishwoman who has been in the States for not even two years. She applied for American Citizenship 6 months ago, and got it which does not make sense to me, and makes becoming a Citizen seem like a joke. Most people have to wait 5 or 6 years. I have to assume that he has had similar biased immigration experiences.

He is not of the lovable English either like Tears for Fears or Mr. Bean (whom I equally love - Tears for Beans?) and were excellent on Pie Quiz (in my Top Ten for the year). He is a Wall Street worker - and even though there might be some good people who work there or so I am told - he could be of the criminal type who should be in prison or deported. We don't know.

Please hold don't that contest ever again Scott.

I just am very surprised that people put this episode in their top ten because for the life of me I cannot figure out why unless the guest is paying people to post positive comments about it or to vote for it. It was very controversial and divisive in my opinion to have someone of that nature on.

Despite my Celtic heritage, I don't have anything against the English (Top Gear is one of my favorite shows of all time), but they as a culture have caused a lot of harm and strife to many cultures over hundreds of years, and have never faced any true karma or consequences. Sounds irrational, and I should keep my opinions to myself.

From now on - if I ever post a comment again - it will be Comedy Bang Bang related only. I love Comedy Bang Bang, Spontaneanation, and I Was There. I need to start listening to Kevin Pollak again - I think what he does is brilliant. Scott Aukerman is quite the media mogul, and he is one of the few Celebrity Podcasters that are out there (like Chris Hardwick or Rob Cesternino).

Comedy Bang Bang - both the show and podcast - bring me great joy!

Can we vote on best commercials? Because there are some clear winners this year.

  • Alexander Campbell - 8 years ago

I am very surprised that Be My Guest Literally is very popular. Does anyone else find this a cringe worthy episode? The guest is not likable at all (one step away from having the real Donald Trump or some late Dictator on the program) - he is an English wall street broker who has had every advantage in life, and was not likable while he was on there - he is everything I cannot stand in modern day society all wrapped in one flesh and blood form. Does anyone else feels the same way?

PFT is not on his game here, and he even seems uncomfortable here and there and is trying to hold back what he really thinks. Am I over reading? This could be one of the most subpar PFT performances of the year. There are other episodes I also really despise - and those will probably be on the best of - but at least I can understand why.

However, I don't understand why this one is liked or popular. I would rather play six games of Russian Roulette (if I make it that far) than listen to this episode again. Am the only one?

  • BenBronte - 8 years ago

The Pie Quiz with the Pie Minister and Tears for Fears was probably the most laugh-out-loud episode I've heard. "It is the only sentient winged pie"

Be My Guest, Literally was a surprise success.

And Solo bolos are always great.

Special recognition for the name "Jeff Characterwheaties".

  • Basil - 8 years ago

First needs to be #336 NOT Fart and Pro 4 (duh times infinity).
    Second place: Heynong Man, natch.
Third: #348 "s Y'all My Daddy? Featuring America's greatest natural resource, Paul F.Tompkins.
Fourth:#342 Silicon Valley Cast Episode where I became aware of the fact that I love Thomas Middleditch
Fifth: #354: Solo Bolo: Dos Lo
Sixth: CBB:The Movie with Sean and Hayes because they are so cool and funny and also nice.
    Seventh: #378 Mailer Daemon

  • Alexander Campbell - 8 years ago

Here are my favorites in order of appearance:

#323 Pie Quiz (Tears for Fears, Reggie Watts & Paul F. Tompkins) - this is perhaps the most forgotten episode because it was last Thanksgiving thereabouts.

#326 Holiday Spectacular (Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, Paul F. Tompkins, Brendon Small, James Adomian, Lauren Lapkus, Matt Besser, & Neil Campbell) - group episodes especially with a dash of Ho Ho makes the seasons bright

#335 - The Wedding of Gilli and Garry (Colin Hay, Gillian Jacobs & Paul F. Tompkins) - I think this is the best of the Gilli & Garry episodes which usually annoy me.

#345 - Shifting Bouncy (Kyle Bornheimer, Paul Brittain & Roman Sklar) - I agree with a fellow listener - Paul Brittain was masterful in this.

#348 - Is Y'all My Daddy? (Cameron Esposito, Paul F. Tompkins & Matt Gourley) - another good episode that is easy to forget - but PFT is the most consistent of performers, and it is so easy to put PFT in just about every best of episode.

#349 - The 6th Anniversary Show! (Paul F. Tompkins, Lauren Lapkus, Thomas Middleditch, Neil Campbell, Mike Hanford, Joe Wengert, Paul Scheer & Erin Whitehead) Group Episodes are always great energy especially when it is an anniversary show - you know that it will be good.

#357 - Modern Anti-Comedy (Natasha Leggero, Jeremy Konner, Brendon Small & Betsy Sodaro) - other people really like this episode especially with Betsy Sodaro's Mrs. Potts. Brendon Small is always hilarious - he as consistent as PFT

#362 - RomanTig (Tig Notaro, Stephanie Allynne & Mookie Blaiklock) Even the comments say that this is a good one. I am surprised that this little nugget is not getting more of a mention. Stephanie Allynne's dotty old lady at the end helps to crown the episode

#373 - Vocal Fry (Eric Stonestreet, Brendon Small) - this is a great Victor & Tiny episode because Brendon Small tries to introduce a new character with Scott shooting him down with hilarious consequences.

#387 - Most Multiple Personalities (John Grant, John Gemberling & Jocelyn DeBoer) I think that John Gemberling being able to juggle all of those personalities is being underrated, but he does a great job here.

I put Good Night In The Morning as my BBBBBonus. which is really liked by other people on these boards. I really think it is a great episode, but is there such a thing as being too polished. Lauren Lapkus is one of the more talented, consistent performers.

  • Sabrina the Teenage Witch - 8 years ago

When I think of which episode made me laugh out loud on the bus, frightening old people, it's got to be a toss-up between Heynong Man and Mailer Daemon.

  • GH - 8 years ago

Don't forget about "Is Y'all My Daddy?" ! PFT and Matt Gourley at their best. And Cameron Esposito is always a delight.

    I heard a crime go!

PLEASE don't forget about #329 Too Much Tuna Tour. Go back and listen again. If that's not a "Best Of" then I just don't understand you people. Also Sean and Hayes.

  • Carly - 8 years ago

    Farts and Procreation please

  • HteveS - 8 years ago

You know who's great? Sean and Hayes. Man that CBB: The Movie was definitely one of the best of the year

  • Cam - 8 years ago

    Sean and Hayes

  • SteveH - 8 years ago

how bout our hometown boys Sean and Hayes killing it on ep 351 - CBB: The Movie? Classic ep.

Paul Brittains masterful appearance on ep 345 - Shifting Bouncy is doomed to be overlooked, but in my mind it's definitely one of the best of the year

I'm not sure which ep to pick but Mike Hanford's John Lennon character is definitely MVP of 2015.

    Silicon Valley P-Cast was incredible.

There were a lot of great eps this year, and some that were not quite as great. Happy Holidays to all

  • Alexander Campbell - 8 years ago

I think that Comedy Ping Pong has something for everyone -- Do agree that if there is a name I like then that most likely I will enjoy that episode more - however some episodes can be A surprise in that both Shifting Bouncy and Roman Tig were one of my favorites of the season and gave me a new respect for the talents of Stephanie Allynne, Mookie Blaiklock, and the masterful Paul Brittain whose work on other episodes did not impress me much, and I also discovered Betsy Sodaro as Mrs. Potts in Modern Anti-Comedy.

However, there are some talents mentioned on here that I dread that happen to very popular with other people like Thomas Middleditch, Hayes Davenport, Ben Schwartz, Harris Wittels, Anders Holm, John Mulaney, etc - Honestly, and I know a lot of people would disagree, but I just hear rich white kids who think they are funny, and may have conned people into thinking they are funny, and I don't find them funny at all most of the time. Also, what I don't find funny is when an improv artist comes on and is someone ordinary - how can you mire humor from someone who is too mundane? It never or rarely works.

The white males that I tend to find funny are PFT, Andy Daly, Matt Gourley, John Gabrus (who might be PFT's lost bastard son), Brendan Small, & Will Hines. Mike Hanford is growing on me. I also thought that John Gemberling was hilarious in Most Multiple Personalities.

I am divided on Jason Mantzoukas. If you look up the word mischievous in the dictionary - I assume there is a picture of Jason beside the word. What he does really well is to act as a firestarter or catalyst for others, and he is really good at wrecking havoc, and pushing guest improv artists to really take it into something completely unexpected as he did with Heynong Man (which admittedly did start to get on my nerves after awhile), and Andy Daly's now infamous Cavalcade of Suicides (perhaps one of the funniest or maybe even the funniest bit of CBB of all time). However, sometimes Jason gets lazy, and all he thinks that he needs to rely on is his impish good charm, and that is all. He doesn't have a self-filter for what is hilarious and what isn't.

There are sometimes when Comedy Bang Bang has so many white males on it - that it might us well be a vampire - but it doesn't suck blood - it just sucks. Those episodes are never funny -- at least not to me. CBB is really good in having women - and the majority of the women they have are very good especially Lauren Lapkus, Mary Holland, Betsy Sodaro, Claudia O'Dougherty, Stephanie Allynne as that old woman, and a few others.

Aside from Kumail and a few others - I hope that Comedy Bang Bang starts to get more diversity in their improv artists - it needs it badly - other than rich white males from good homes.

I loved Good Night in the Morning, but it does not make my top ten because it is just too polished for my taste. PFT and Lauren Lapkus are just so talented that they raise bar very high for some of the people who are no where near their league in terms of raw talent.

I think some people might need a refresher for #338 Be my guest... literally. It was early on this season and those early ones tend to get lost. Give it a listen

  • Linus - 8 years ago

Not farts and pros for got my vote, RIP harris!

  • claz - 8 years ago

    Sean and Hayes

  • English person - 8 years ago

I'll be so disappointed if Too Much Tuna Tour doesn't make it, that was an absolute masterclass from Mulaney. Also, Goodnight In The Morning made me laugh more than any episode ever. Scarsdale just cannot be topped.

  • Calum - 8 years ago

I don't know if you're planning on doing any B-B-B-B-BONUS-S-S-S-S clips this year, but Uncle Smokey smoking pot for the first time from #327 has got to be a strong contender if so.

  • nicholas - 8 years ago

    CBB: the movie

  • Marnie - 8 years ago

MVPs of the year: Middleditch & Mantzoukas

  • Kevin Little - 8 years ago

NOT Parks and Rec needs to win. That said, Never the Twains shall meet and all the Benny Schwa eps were amazing.

But then there's also the birth of Heynongman... They had a really great year.

  • Al - 8 years ago

Anything with John Gabrus gets my vote

  • Joey - 8 years ago

Thanks to CBB for keeping me sane over the year. I love love love CBB.

    1. What Winsome Said
    2. Mailer Daemon
    3. Shifting Bouncy
    4. A Silicon Valley P-Cast (where Middleditch established his bona fides)

And I missed the Be My Guest Literally, which was super fun.

I loved NOT Farts, but it wasn't my favourite. RIP Harris.

  • Alexander Campbell - 8 years ago

I thought that the season started on a high note with Pie Quiz and ended with two strong episodes -- Neko Case is my favorite American singer-songwriter of all time, and unattainable crush/sex partner I will never be with unfortunately.

When I heard Pie Quiz - a year ago - I couldn't wait for the poll to begin because it needs to be on it. I also loved Modern Anti-Comedy (Betsy Sodaro as Mrs. Potts was a big reason for that, Shifting Bouncy (it just moved along very well and was solid all the way through - hope that makes it, Roman Tig was a surprise for me (didn't think it would have been as good as it was), anything with Ho Ho (Lauren Lapkis) or Victor & Tiny (Brendan Small), etc. No Forval (Bobby Moniyan) this year, but hopefully next.

Be My Guest Literally was very uncomfortable to listen to - it was the CBB equivalent of the IRS Agent winning the first million on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. CBB held a contest - and who won - a snotty, privileged Englishman who became a banker on wall street. Who cares about deporting our Mexican & Central American brothers & sisters. Deport him back where he came from, and throw in Piers Morgan and the BP Execs for good measure. We can keep Richard Branson because he is fun and harmless - lol. Realize I sound irrational, but immigration reform is a personal topic to me, and it is a screwed up biased system, but know one cares about what I think - lets get back to CBB. Maybe it was my imagination, but Paul F. Tompkins seemed a little uncomfortable in that episode. Most Celts would of course.

Speaking of PFT, was it my imagination or did Numbers Cannot Lie sound strange in the sense that it was almost like he was having a personal crisis or issue and it was bleeding into the episode a bit? A real life tears of a clown?

It is interesting hearing Scott as a host because he is like a mirror in the sense that if he gets really funny guests he is also funny. However, if his improv artists are unfunny, having an off day, then Scott will be the same. Has anyone else noticed that?

  • Denise - 8 years ago

Obviously NOT farts and pro 4 is the winner. and the clear runner up is Heynong Man. Also, any Benny Schwa solo bolos

  • Jack - 8 years ago

Neil Campbell returning as the time keeper with Paul Rust's killer Elvis adlibs was some of the funniest shit of the whole year.

  • Conor - 8 years ago

I just want to remind everyone how AMAZING the live SXSW ep was with Lauren Lapkus's Todd and Nick Kroll's Baby getting married at the end. I'm worried people won't remember it because it's a live episode, but it was one of the weirdest episodes ever and one of the best of the year for sure.

  • Comedian Bill Burr - 8 years ago

  • Alexander Campbell - 8 years ago

There are four notable episodes on here - and even though I didn't vote for any of them - they should all be mentioned even if they are not voted in as honorable mentions -

    1. Not Farts and Procreation 4 because of Harris' final podcast.

    2. Goodbye Reggie! for obvious reasons

    3. Heynong Man - even though I found personally found this episode and its episode annoying - it seemed to be a running theme all year long.

    4. A Colinary Journey with now famous band and historical footnote, Eagles of Death Metal, coming onto the podcast to promote their then upcoming European Tour which became the basis for the Paris Isis Attacks.

  • NOT Farts and Procreation 4! - 8 years ago

Nobody has mentioned Harris' final podcast yet. C'mon now people! NOT Farts and Procreation 4 is the clear winner here!!

  • @TimKerrick - 8 years ago

You know this is a free podcast, and when you assign a letter grade to the show you don't come off as enlightened, more like douchey as all balls. 4 Stars.
