Real - because you should do it at least once. Also, my dog never drank the water. However, he did confuse it with the tree outside and hiked his leg on it periodically through out the holiday season. Now we have a fake one :)
My family always had 2 trees. One fake and a real one. I always loved to real one and never had a huge issue with the dog drinking the water. And it depends which kind of tree you get with the amount of needles drop. But I would get a real one in a heartbeat if I could.
