Have you cut your grocery budget amid the downturn?

I avoid Safeway as much as possible even though there are 2 close to me. The prices are so high. I will drive out of my neighborhood to shop at Superstore or Costco. I really hate Safeway and Co-op as well. I think they take advantage of the market.

I cut down on my shopping since I don't like a wide range of food, I like the basics...potatoes, rice, hamburger, etc.

I will only shop more for my pet than I would for myself

I quit shopping at Safeway since Sobeys bought it. Prices are way too high and the house brand isn't good. My budget hasn't changed but I have had to shop someplace else so I can buy what I need.

I certainly know Safeway prices have changed to higher, since Sobey's took them over. Safeway doesn't have the great week-end specials they used to have. I don't like the way Sobey's and Safeway markets their 2 for one items. Both Sobey's and Safeway tend to make us buy 2 or there is a penalty in the price. Not always but at times. I am a single senior and really have to be careful with my money in general. Everything is getting so expensive and especially groceries like vegetables and fruit. Beef - I can forget because it is beyond my budget. I have changed my eating habits drastically out of necessity. When I retired in 2007, I had no idea my life would change so drastically - It is a good thing I am a good money manager. Oh well, I do remain healthy and happy, and that is worth more than anything else in the world!

As Senior Citizens, on fixed and smaller pensions, we found it necessary to shop some of the lester priced stores. Our food budget is at least 50% of what it was before the downturn in the province of Alberta. I am now even looking at Food Banks for help.
Thank you NDPer's for your lack of consideration for us older folks. And yes we will enture the next 3.5 years but will certainly be making a change when given the opportunity.
    Regards
