Jim Cripps.... He was IMHO the best athlete in 59-61 era. I'm proud to say he was one of my best friends. We grew up together and played sports football and baseball. He was more than a top athlete though. He raised and took care of his brother and sisters. He was very gifted in some many areas. He was matured beyond his years, a image to look up too. Please do consider Jim.....
JIMMY CRIPPS A 1961 GRADUATE OF WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL SHOULD BE ON YOUR LIST. HE EXCELLED IN ALL THE SPORTS EVEN AFTER BREAKING HIS NECK AS A FRESHMAN. AFTER ATTENDING SYRACUSE, HE BECAME A MARINE PILOT. SADLY, HE WAS LOST AT SEA AT A YOUNG AGE SERVING OUR COUNTRY.

Jimmy Cripps should most definitely be added to the list. He was an all around super human being and was one if the greatest all-around athletes in Rochester area history. In his senior year at Webster High School he excelled in three sports: basketball, football and track which were all undefeated! Unfortunately in 1982 the plane Jim was flying as a Marine went down and his body never found! I vote for Jim Cripps!

Charles "Old Hoss" Radbourn - One of the great pitchers in early baseball history. Holds the record for wins in a season with 59 (in 1884).

Jim Cripps should certainly be included in Rochester's own Mt. Rushmore. An outstanding athlete, and not only did he give his "all" to Monroe County, his home town of Webster, NY, but most definitely to his Country. Sadly, he was omitted from your list.
Jim Cripps was an outstanding Webster athlete. He was part of the lergendary championship basketball team of 1961. He should be up there.
Jim Cripps, Webster class of 1961, was the best all around athlete in the Rochester area for years. Unfortunately he was lost over the Pacific as a member of the US Air Force.

Much has already been said about Jim Cripps. For those who were around in the 60s it was obvious that he was a great athlete, a patriot, and a hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
Jimmy Cripps needs to be on the list. He was a leader in every way from High School, where he lead a small group of men onto incredible achievements in sports, as well as sacrificing his life for his country.
Just check the Webster High School class of 1961 for the facts regarding his and his team mates achievements.
Others have summed it up better than I can. You had to see Jim Cripps in action to understand our fondness for him and his abilities.
I do not understand how the name of Jimmy Cripps from Webster High School got left off this list. Had he not suffered injuries during the summers before his Freshman and Sophomore years and wasn’t allowed to play football, I’m sure he would have been a 12-letter athlete from Webster High, instead of only ten. He made the All County Teams for football, baseball, basketball and track during his high school career, some I’m sure several times. He was an all-round athlete and did well in any sport he played. And with all his skills and accomplishments, he never bragged about any of them. He was a true gentleman both on the field and off. Sadly he died too young while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. My vote goes to Jim Cripps.
Jim Cripps was the most gifted athlete of our area. He was part of the greatest basketball team of our area high schools (Webster High-1961 basketball--so voted by sports writers and coaches of Section V), and undefeated football and track teams. He played at Syracuse and was a fighter pilot in the USAF dying on duty. Virtually raising his younger siblings by himself while in H.S., he scored high grades, held part-time jobs, and starred in 3 sports. A friend to all, a gentleman, and an American hero.

Mr Loe Roth, Marty Byrnes is a Pittsford graduate and the 1st Syracuse player drafted in the 1st round under Jim Boehiem - won a NBA title with the Lakers....
Sam Urzetta should be on list. Won National Amateur golf championship in 1950, and at that time was as big as USOpen. Also played on two mWalker Cup Championships for US, several Masters and US Opens. Little known fact Sam was also outstanding basketball player at St.Bonaventure, and one year led Nation in free throw shooting percentage and was drafted by Minn Lakers.
Webster's Jim Cripps- one of the greatest all-around athletes in Rochester area history. In his senior year at Webster High School (1960-61), his teams went 43-0, and he was selected first-team all-conference or all-league in all three sports. (Football, 8-0; Basketball, 21-0; Track, 14-0) Jim was a mainstay on the undefeated basketball team which in 1996 was selected by a blue-ribbon committee as the best in the history of Section V Basketball. He went on to an excellent football career at Syracuse University before joining the Marine Corps and serving as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. A career Marine, the jet he was flying in October of 1982 went down near the Phillipines. His body was never found, but the memory of his incredible athletic feats, yet humble ways, will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.

I also vote for Iris Zimmerman . It is one thing to be great in a sport that had others from whom you can learn how to be great. It is far different to be the first person from your country to be a great champion in a sport, to be that pioneer from whom others learn. Additionally, once retired from the sport of fencing Iris has devoted her life to bringing the richness of her sport to hundreds of children and young adults throughout the Rochester region.

I vote for Iris Zimmermann for Fencing - which was on the article but not here in the poll. She was the first American to win a World Championship medal for the United States in Women's Fencing, the youngest world champion in the Under 17 category in history, at least world championship medal finishes, and 2000 Olympian. The most important contribution is the fact the she is the owner of the Rochester Fencing Club, making an impact locally to kids and adults and giving back to the sport she loves so much. Yes, I'm biased...I am her sister :)

Long played high school lacrosse at Irondequoit, where he was a two-time All-American and four-time All-League. At the Naval Academy Long was a three-time All-American (1975, 1976, 1977), and is the school’s career leader in total points (233) and assists (149). He set the school’s single-season assists record with 53 in 1977.
Long was an attackman for the 1978 and 1986, U.S. Men’s National Teams, winning a world championship in 1986. (He was unable to play in 1982 as he was in the Navy) He also served as assistant coach to the 1998 World Champion U.S. Men’s National Team.
Long was inducted into the US Lacrosse Greater Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame (1992) and the United States Naval Academy Hall of Fame (2007 and the United States National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2009.
