I run 62 MPH Being forced to have ELD I will run what ever the speed limit is if it is 80mph then that's what I will run they want more revenue from fuel tax saying trucks avg 6 mpg compared to 4 mpg years ago the states have lost 50% of there fuel tax it is not about safety it is about revenue GET REAL

Here's a good one. I own an drive a Hotshot but only work 2 days a week. I live in SC an drive to Fla one day and back the next. After this I drop my fifth wheel trailer an hook my dully to my boat an take off fishing in different places and sometimes it's out of state. Question: So if my truck is being tracked every time I start it and move it how the hell is that gonna look to the DOT and why the hell are they allowed to track my private life. I bought this truck in my wife an my name not a company name. Is this not an invasion of privacy ? After 34 years of safe commercial driving ticket free an now I have to be tracked and babysitter. I have a very big issue of the invasion of my private life an I don't think I should have to buy a second vehicle to carry on with my non commercial travels in life.

Witch senator or congressman owns or has a lot of stock in the elf company ?

  • Paul Filyes - 8 years ago

I'll give it a try. If it is no longer profitable to drive truck I'll have to consider something else.

Just last week i was getting tired around 2;30 pm.So i pulled over took an hour nap.Felt great after that.BUT if i were on ELD i would have kept driving. Because I would have been on the 14 hour clock. So ELD drive Tired or paper and drive refreshed?

Why does the government want to bother companies with a low csa score and a very good safety rating? Not to mention owner operators. This rule on eld's is over reaching. I am a owner operator, have been for over 25 years. My current trk is a 2001 Pete in excellent condition. In most cases the shoppers and receivers are going to be the problem with this mandate. Getting held up on either end will eat up our 14 hrs and be nowhere close to our 11 to drive. Loads will be late, constantly. Not a very good idea for the smaller companies and owner operators. What is nxt? Its getting out of control. They tell us there is a shortage of trks and drivers now, what do they think this will accomplish! For longer trips this will probably be ok as long as the driver can get unloaded and loaded in a reasonable time frame. But for me it will not work out. I know that there are a lot of drivers out there in the same boat as me. I am hoping for some changes to be made before Dec 2017 that will help us.

I am totally confused with comments from others in this post and many others. Can someone explain to me how they come up with the thoughts that using ELD will cost them more money and that they can not make enough money to feed their families when using ELD. My fleet of over 300 units have been running ELD for the last 18 months, and I would never consider returning to paper logs, nor would our drivers. ELD has been a vital part of our recruitment and retention. Driver tell us they would never want to work for a carrier that did not have ELD. We know based on hard numbers that our production improved over 12% this year alone, we have saved over 5% on wasted fuel, our accident rate has dropped 1.5% and one of the most favorable aspects that anyone should consider is that with ELD your paperwork as a driver is cut almost in half. If you have had a bad experience with ELD or have only the information handed down over the counter at the truck stop, or maybe have not looked into some of the advanced technologies that support ELD, then do some research. ELD or today can be the drivers best friend and the right ELD can do your logs for you. If you log in, do your inspection then the ELD will switch you between driving and not driving, flag all duty changes with GPS locations, flag crossing states, fuel stops, 30 minute break, allows you to annotate your log if you feel the ELD has not captured the correct information, and for those guys running their own trucks ELD will capture all of the data you need to do IFTA. For the guys who have always tried to tell the dispatcher, or even the dock that you got held up in traffic, or a storm, etc. proves your point with a click of the tablet. I too was pretty sure that ELD was going to turn our semi successful fleet into a total failure, when in fact it did just the opposite. We run cleaner, longer, and more efficient than we did the 5 years prior. We attract top line drivers, support top line mechanics, we retain drivers longer than we had in the past and way above national averages. Because of the streamlined processes in IFDA, Fuel reporting, document time brackets to meet customer commitments we are able to pass that down to the driver paying way above our industries averages. Give this thing a chance, see if with an open mind, and try to realize that ELD is just another tool in your toolbox, if you can get an electronic device to do all the things it is capable of doing, then the stress of logs, let this device do it for you. And I am sure that all of you run legal logs now, so it will not be a jump for you, those of you who do not run legal logs may have some changes to make. Just saying

    Now! we did experiment!!!!!!!!!!
we asked our driver run like he would have ELD! so he did this for 2 weeks!!!!!!!AND WE HAD TO STOP THIS EXPERIMENT!
    we ARE in SHOCK!!
EVERY WEEK COMPANY LOST 700-1000$ ,DRIVER MADE 35% LESS THEN USUALLY!!!!!!!
DETENTION 15$ TO 30$ NOT HELP US AT ALL! they cancelled load -we lost 1 day and detention was 150$for 24 hours! and the prices for loads are terrible! we wish the fuel would be more expensive like 4$ a gallon! we were making 30% more! and now going to east for 2$?????????? have you ever see tollway charges???????????????? 200-300$ one way to east! and then back!!!!!!!
before they make us have ELD ,the government must:
1)regulate the detention! like 70$ an hour!
    2) regulate the load prices !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    3) and if we have eld we need more hours please!!!!!!!!!
I just had conversation with the guy who has ELD! he is driving like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! because he needs to make his money! tired and he Admitted that its very DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!
SO QUESTION!!!!!!: WHERE IS THE SAFTY HERE???????????????
2 DAYS AGO ,EAST COST UPS TRUCK DRIVER KILLED HIMSELF AND ANOTHER PEOPLE IN TRUCK ACCIDENT! REASON : BECAUSE GUY WAS SO ON THE RUSH WITH THE SCHEDULE !!! AND ELD!AND HE WAS SO TIRED THAT HE FELL A SLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL!
NOW GO AND EXPLAIN HIS FAMILY AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO DIED ,THAT THIS IS VERY SAFE THINK YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID BE LATE FOR DELIVERY , AND DOT SENT HIM TO HEAVEN WITH ELECTRONIC DEVICE!
AND ANOTHER THINK! WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS!!!!!!!!!!! THE COPS STOPPED MY TRUCKS RANDOMLY LAS 2 WEEKS ,THEY DID INSPECTION ,DIDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND LET MY DRIVERS GO WITH NO POSITIVE REPORT! BUT WHEN THEY FIND SOME ,THEY WOULD NEVER LET YOU GO WITH THE VERBAL WARNING! WHAT THE F...K IS THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND LAST THING: IF WE CAN STOP FOR 1 DAY 50% OPERATIONS ,TRUST ME!!!! WE WOULD GET ALL FROM THAT ONE DAY OF REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WOULD MAKE SUCH A DAMAGE , AND WAREHOUSES WOULDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE AND THE WOULD PAY 4$ TO EAST AND 2$ BACK TO MIDWEST!
    GOOD LUCK BROTHERS!!!!!!!

I'm running driveaways, and will continue to do so....

I am an own operator. I do most of my business in a 300 mile radius. With out being able to split log , I lose a lot of home time because I can't stop. It would be nice if the government would figure out if the can't pass laws that work for everyone, with no exceptions for big money companies, then don't pass laws at all. Leave things the way they were before they screwed with them

  • Ron Diehl - 8 years ago

I'm a professional and will be treated as such. I am on the road away from my family to support my family. This law will cut into my profits and take money away from my family. I'm out! This law will also make it more dangerous on the roads. I slow down to conserve my fuel and now I will have to drive the speed limit to make appointments. There goes my safety and my fuel savings.

I'm tired of the government mandating truckers like we are all criminals when we are not time we take a stand all drivers need to stop park in a safe location and refuse to move if it makes me a terrorist well so be it my government is discriminating against me and forcing me to put a computer in my truck that's going to cost me money and add a monthly expense to my expenses I just bought a brand new 2016 western star the government doesn't own me or my equipment they don't pay me or pay for my equipment I actually pay the government so I guess if I stop paying the giver they'll get mad cause there losing money well guess what government we truckers are going to lose money in putting stupid systems in our truck that breakdown and cost a lot to be fixed and cost us in down time too get this through your thick skulls fmcsa you don't own us truckers we carry America you force rules and regs on us but guess what we don't run you don't get fed neither does America so see who wins this war in the end

Have been driving since mid 80's I haul a grain wagon! There is no way I can go to these mills and be legal on an elog, most of them require at least 2, 4 or 5 hour wait time to pick up or deliver!! I also deliver to dairies and livestock has to eat!! I don't like the government cramming something else down our throat!! Unless everyone making the rules has worked in in truck (not a motor home on wheels) they should not have a right to tell the trucking industry what they have to do!!

  • Keith - 8 years ago

If eld actually goes into effect , I'm done.and if it does f m c s a should have to buy out all o/o if they choose to get out since eld is being forced on us.

If i wan to wear a Ankle Bracelet I will Rob a Liquor Store. That is what E-LOGS are just another form of in house arrest without a trial.

  • Robert - 8 years ago

Ok with the eld just let up on 14 hr rule and go to 16 or 18 so we can work and get the job done..

  • Ken - 8 years ago

  • Brett Covey - 8 years ago

I am a owner operator and have beeb since 2005. The company i am leased to went to electronic logs about 3 years ago. I noticed analmost iimmediate revenue loss of about $1500.00 a month. Not because I was running illegal but because I run in a critical on time run and my company wouldn't dispatch as many miles to insure on time. I have talked to drivers that like the e loggs but as the conversation goes on most that like them have never run paper logs.

  • Mind Games - 8 years ago

I was going to stay and might for a while longer if my boss will continue to run me access I-80 but since this box is really being pushed to push liability of an accident off 100% on the driver without me having an option to purchase some type of insurance to protect me and my stuff well it's goodbye industry and I hope millions of driver see right through this scam that has been rammed down the drivers throats and do the same.
Level the playing field and I might think about it till then to hell with all of em!

I Really Don't Know What Is Going On Where I Work Right Know. I Really Haven't Been Doing A Lot Of Freight Runs.

  • Robert - 8 years ago

I have a 2001, and if the law doesnt change in court by Dec 2017 I will buy a 99. I just will not comply with government overreach. It's not a matter of cheating on logs its a matter of principle.

  • Ron - 8 years ago

I just bought a 2016 579 Pete and there will NEVER be a ELD or speed limiter in my truck

  • Mike - 8 years ago

I haul feed. Longest run is 150 miles. I will run what I got until ELD is forced on us. Or, buy an older truck or say"SCREW IT" and turn wrenches to help my elders that keep fighting against ELD. Are we prisoners that need to be monitored? What is next? Ankle jewelry monitoring? One cookie cutter regulation doesn't work for us all.

  • Tim Glasnapp - 8 years ago

Probably look for a way to circumvent the rule since we primarily haul livestock.
