I've lent my sister a compact to take on holiday when we both went on the same holiday. She knows nothing about photography but still took some pictures that were better than mine. Can't have that!

I might let some one I know well have a go with my camera if I was there, but let it out of my sight.... No way! I'm probably to OCD about looking after it.

Many years ago, i lent my new Ensign Selfix 16/20 rangefinder to a friend to fake with him on holiday. It never came back, he'd dropped it in the Thames. He hadn't mentioned the holiday was a river cruise.

Obviously it depends on the friend: some people I'd be happy to trust, but I've known others I wouldn't risk lending a crowbar because they'd probably break it.
