Daniel painter is a complete scam. All he does is use people and even his dog for his own gain. He's not even human. This guy worked me and never even paid when job done and every year he gets xmas tress from a new owner of a farm because at end once he makes money he don't pay them. Then he just cold ignores them. Hard working farmers he screws. Don't believe me call Scott at Scott's tree farm in whitetop va. Daniel is a loser drunk coward thief period

For the person who said her kids like to see Charles running around...how will they like it when Charles is laying in the street after being hit by a car. Is that what you want your kids to see next? Wake up, please. Having a dog run loose is NOT safe. The law can get back to more serious crimes immediately if they hand over Charles leash to a responsible pet owner. If one can't be found, I'll be happy to take him, as I'm sure many others would be.

It's not ethical to put Charles in harms way time after time. Charles needs to go to a responsible owner. Let's hope the courts do the right thing for Charles. The current owner should not be allowed to own an animal.

Unfortunately it would be in Charles best interest to be taken away from his owner. I am also a neighbor of theirs. There has been countless times where I've seen Charles running around crossing the streets all through the neighborhood with no sight of his owner. I've seen many people having to slam on their brakes because they don't see him and almost hit him. Not to mention when his owner takes him places he doesn't even use a real leash... He ties him up with a piece of gardening twine.

There is no question that Charles is a loved member of the Norfolk community. But if Norfolk wants to keep him as a loved member of the community they need to ensure his safety and that he is being well taken care of. Because right now.... He's not.

Everyone's hollering the owner needs to be locked up I don't see it that way he don't see that a dog need to be chained up was stuck in the house if the dogs not hurting anyone what doesn't matter is people running out here to lose every day killing people our children see this everyday and we really have here arguing about whether man needs to go to jail because his dogs running loose how about you catch those criminals out there that's robbing old ladies and killing kids and innocent people just for walking down the street fix the problems that you have already and stop worrying about Chastity owner I'm pretty sure his owner loves him and don't want anything to happen to him but like me I have a dog of my own and she likes to go outside and put it on the Chain she roams freely she plays with the kids they enjoyed her if the dogs not bothering you or anyone or hurting anyone why bother it worry about these people does running up killing our youth NR police offices everyday when you look on the news a crime has happened involving a shooting or a child look at these irresponsible parents that's doing these things to these children that's hurting them and start worrying about is chastity is going to bite somebody or should his owner be put in jail those are the little things that's why I so many things happening within this world we live in because people are worried about the littlest things and needs to be worried about the biggest things like these killings tar babies

Charles is not at fault his owner is. He does not deserve the honor of owning charles. We see the other frequently out drinking while the poor dog is left outside. I say contact a family member and release chales and lock up his owner. He does not deserve the honor of owning any pet. He is an irresponsible person, so punish Daniel Painter behind bars and let Charles go. He only uses this dog for monetary gain.

Unfortunately this is the forth time, and probably many other times too just not caught, that Charles has been locked up from roaming loose in public. laws are laws. I am positive someone would love to have him and keep him safe. As long as he is NOT euthanize he needs a new owner. The only loser here is going to be Charles. Maybe ODU can take him and make him the Official Mascot.

Fear not Charles, every dog has his day. We're all rooting for you, and even though they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, don't be ashamed if you walk away with some after hanging out with that riff raff in lockup. Don't worry, we'll get you out. There aint a dog in hells chance you'll be be left to rot in that pokey!!

Owner should be locked up. Charles deserves better. Owner has no respect for his neigbors, himself, or Charles!!!!

The owner has absolutely no regard for the safety of this animal or concern for possible accidents Charles may cause. The owner disregards his neighbors by letting his dog poop, pee, run through their yards. Btw, this is not the original Charles either. So when the owner argues that his dog doesn't have to be on a leash because its "grandfathered" by the city due to the dog being trained, the judge can tell him to cork it because it's not the same beloved Charles the Lion Dog.... he has used that excuse before. Let someone responsible foster Charles.

The owner is a drunk he's a waste of space, the dog deserves a loving home. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

@Melissa, I have to ask and I hope you see this and respond, why should this dog's owner be left alone? You say work on all the shootings and littering and all the trash that makes Norfolk horrible, but have you stopped to think of WHO it is that litters, who the shooters are, where that trash comes from?

It comes from people with no respect for the laws, their neighbors, the environment. It comes from people just like this dogs owner, who KNOW they are breaking laws and do not care, and from those like you who defend them and ask they be left alone. FOUR times this dog has been picked up. I'm almost 57 years old, have had multiple dogs and cats all my life and NOT ONCE have any of them ever been picked up. They never had a reason to be.

Your kids who love to see the dog running loose, are getting a lesson and what are they learning? Stop and think about all that for a few minutes. Is that really what you want them to learn from this?

While it sucks for Charles to be locked up it is still better than lying injured on the road or being road kill and dinner for hawks.

Or even worse, have something out of the ordinary happen and he bites someone while running freely.

I feel so sad for Charles. He didn't choose an irresponsible owner. Being in a cage/strange location is so hard on our fur babies. I would take him without hesitation.

  • John - 8 years ago

Sorry to say this, but Charles should be locked up. A careless owner must learn and they didn't learn the first time. Maybe, ODU should pickup/adopt him as the current owner sucks

  • Ritch - 8 years ago

Let Charlie FREE ! Keeping him locked up until the owner goes to court is INSANE.

  • Melissa - 8 years ago

Charles owner loves him! So do the residents of Norfolk. My kids love to see the dog when he is roaming around. He is a great dog with a free spirit. Leave the poor man alone and work on all of the shootings and littering and all of the trash that makes norfolk horrible instead of focusing on a dog that brings joy to people.
