Now contractors will not service in the area, I can't find anyone to do repairs, realtors won't list the property because I is too dangerous to show, I find shell casings o the sidewalk and had to get my concealed carry license. Four years ago I could rent for $850 month, it is now down to $650. I tried to gift it for $1 and give it to habitat for humanity. No joke, I can't give it away...800 block of W. 5th,anyone want it...it comes wit h weekly petty fines from the city for trash in the alley or a crack in the sidewalk.

Seriously, Wilmington Delaware is a absolute disgrace. Everyone is looking for a hand out. If my tax dollars aren't afforded to them then they rob, steal, cheat and lie. Don't get me wrong... there are good folks who do contribute but they are few and far apart. I hope the people of Wilmington elect a new Mayor. I hope for someone strong with a clear message. No more handouts. It's time to hold people accountable. Tare down all those disgusting and dirty row homes and rebuild. Or, just build a wall around the city LOL

Whether the police ever get this problem under control or not, people need to learn to take responsibility for their own affairs and defense. Even the most well intentioned and dedicated cop is not a superhero, they have not yet developed pre-cognitive abilities, or "spidey-senses", they can't bend time to help you faster.
People need to train for both lethal and non-lethal responses, you should know martial arts, invest in some body armour for the worst case scenario, buy some none lethal products like pepper spray gel (riot size) or some other overlap weapon like a baton or knives. But above all you need to get at least one gun you feel comfortable with, train and have plenty of ammo in case you find yourself sucked into one of the above mentioned shootouts or other violent crimes. Stop looking for saviors and don't be a victim, you don't "need" the polices protection, you can and should be your own first responder, since you are the one who will be dealing with the situation first.

The blacks need to be held accountable, no more welffare for men...they need to get to work or do without. If they would work they would have less time on their hands to get into trouble, and worry about who disrespected them. They women need to stop enableing them so that they do not have to work or be a father for their children. Stop giving the men every thing so that the men have to stand up and be men. Get back to worshiping the Father and stop giving the milk out for free. All of this goes against how a man or family should live. I am sick of all the disrespect along with the blacks believing that they are owed something...we all were slaves at one point of another. Get over it and stop using it as an excuse. Start acting like people and stop with the tribal looser behavior. We used to have a safe and beautiful city. Since we have had black mayors the city is in the dumps. This may not be politically correct but it is the truth. We can't even sell our homes in the city so that we can get out....we can not even take a walk around the block without being threatened. And do not even think about telling any of them to get off of your car, watch your kids, even the young ones! The parents do not want the responsabllity of watching the kids and teaching them respect, morals, dicipline, the things most of us learned growing up. I miss the polish, ittalian, irish neighborhoods where we may have been seperate but that built culture. We all went to each others homes, stores, bakeries, resturants...not anymore. There is no where we can go and feel safe because the blacks take everything and we end up leaving and going somewhere else, they go there and take that too. But it is just fine that we have black stores, black only colleges, they feel safe but whites are not welcome. Now that there is no black on white crime it is truely hell. You better arm up because the police will not prosecute the black on white crime...It is past time to lock n load. None of this will be rectified until we have honest city government. We don't have much left and as long as the current people are in charge...they are are too busy being important and lining their pockets, playing the big shot. it is disgusting! We need a white mayor who will not be bribed or interested in anything other than removing the corruption in the mayoral and police camps. I am sick of dealing with it and the promises are hollow.

I grew up in Hedgeville and it breaks my heart to see what has become of my old neighborhood, never in a millions years would I have thought that it would become a war zone, a ghetto with daily shootings, drug dealing and other various criminal activities . I don't feel like enough is being done to stop the violence in the city, not just Hedgeville but in all areas of the city where the criminals have taken over. The city needs new leadership with individuals who have a plan and not just a political agenda. The residents need to step up and help the police with the investigations and also vote in better leadership based on knowledge and experience and not empty promises and political agendas.

Wilmington needs something for the young people to do. Its only bad in certain areas as is in any big city. I went to the Oprah one night and fekt completely safe because they had the streets well lit & police placed her & there near the area. All the main jibs like crysler dupont and general motors the credit card bisinesses so the people has no.way to make a living. Wilmington is folowing the steps of Chester no jobs no.life. I moved here to escape Chester now I will move again to escape Delawares decline.

The majority of the shootings occur in areas, that most of us, wouldn't be 'visiting' or working in, additionally most of the 'victims' have criminal records so unlikely the 'average' working class citizen would be shot.
If this is REALLY a serious problem there's lots of options to mitigate the problem, yeah, they wouldn't be politically correct, for the 'locals', ACLU, clergy, blah blah blah... so until they can get over themselves and be willing to live with a little pain/embarrassment don't expect the CDC to give you a 'magical' pill...

I was born and raised in Wilmington & I don't remember Wilmington being in such horrendous condition. I lived through the riots and that was definitely a bad time, I truly believe Wilmington should go into a mandatory curfew or Marshall law until things are put under control. Nobody likes having things or freedom taken from them maybe it'll wake up the ones the are under the perception they cab do what they want. #fedupwiththeviolence

Shootings are about the lack of ability to resolve issues and reason through conflict. It's less to do with the weapon and more to do with the person.
All we gotta do is all we gotta do is stop and think man well if we do that everything else to be alright because at times people with guns they have no other outlet they can't think and I mean cuz he wasn't our house and think how is your situation so once they learn how to do since you wish it I think it would be a better world and a better day for the younger generation but that's the ones we doing all the killing peace I'm out.

Most of these shootings wouldn't take place if people learned proper conflict resolution skills. I was born and raised in Wilmington, and surely I have had people threaten to shoot me, but in 30 years of living here I have yet to have a bullet whiz anywhere near me..Can't blame anyone but the shooters, it's ego, it's ignorance, and unintelligent people who know nothing but gunplay..
