Mother's Day

My grandmother had mental health issues and wasn't a good mother to my mom; my mom became a Jehovah's Witness and they don't celebrate Mother's Day, and I don't ever want kids. I'm pretty much 0/3 on Mother's Day, but I don't begrudge people for whom it's a big event. I do get wished a Happy Mother's Day in the grocery store, as a 29-year-old white woman. My partner (also white) who I was shopping with was shocked when that happened, but I'm used to it so I just said "thanks" and moved on.

To comment about the woman that wrote the Mother's Day article. I am a happily married mother and this mother's day I got to hold flowers bought on the way to my mother in laws by my husband...I was told that these flowers aren't for you but I got you on your birthday which is in June. So mother's day can be shitty sometimes and it doesn't matter if you are married or not. I agree with you Rod that the title is horrible and she seems to be just venting. Motherhood has its ups and downs and sometimes the downs happen to fall on or around mother's day.As easy as it would be to gripe about my husbands choice I chose to chalk it up to one of the downs of motherhood. My husband may have something nice planned for my birthday and he just choose piss poor words to say to me that day. Sometimes you just have to choose the "whatever" route rather than cause a stressful argument or get down on yourself...
