PNJ Poll: What is the Best Accent in New Jersey?
A. North Jersey. Attitude, baby. Not even close. Watch any WWII movie. Take another peek at Goodfellas. It's the only accent the world associates with NJ. And it's NOT a NY accent. New York inaccurately tries to replicate THE Jersey accent.
B. South Jersey. Go to the beach and pick up a conch shell. Listen to it. That's the South Jersey accent for me. In a word: endearing.
C. Central Jersey. It's not so much that I resent those regional inflections that crop into the speech of North and South Jerseyans, but as an educated person I pride myself on speaking AMERICAN.
D. As an immigrant state, the wondrous thing about New Jersey is that EVERY accent has resonance here. What I love about the speech in this place is its universal embrace of world communication. The planet crunches itself into the unduplicable dimensions of New Jersey lingo.
