MOMMY, why do Republicans believe anything other Republicans tell them - instead of facts?

  • David H - 16 years ago

With 39 days left to go, everything is political and this is an obvious political stunt. McCain has not voted on any legislation since April -- While I respect McCain as a candidate I do not believe that the timing of this move is coincidental. Last week was a disaster for his campaign and he is avoiding a debate with Obama because he cannot afford to let Obama build momentum.

  • GOP Blair - 16 years ago

Have any of you knuckeheads heard of a phone, the fax, and the internet? You dont have to be in Washington to contribute to a solution. What a joke this McCain guy is. He is a liaaaaaar. Hey Chuckles.....YOUR MOMMA!

  • Michael & Carolyn - 16 years ago

Two words come to mind "Country First". Now is not the time for politics, but we should all work together to issue a plan that will be in the best interest of our great land. Thank you John McCain for your life convictions of not doing what is easy but doing what is right. We feel that an issue of this importance deserves our leaders undivided attention. Politics may appeal to community organizers but running a country is reserved for true leaders. Reach across the isle and lets get this done in the name of the "United" States of America! We the people are depending on all of our representatives to do the right thing.

MOMMY, isn't John McCain "Mr. De-Regulator"? Didn't his support cause this mess? John just said "the economy is strong", isn't it??

  • Tony - 16 years ago

John is about doing what is best for the United States. His decision to suspend the campaign and go back to D.C. to help lead to fix the problem shows he is about solutions and getting the job done. The comment about him being scared to debate...that's nonsense. Obama doesn't have answers to what he will do. He is only about giving a good speech with no substance. McCain will mop the floor with Obama in the debate. Hopefully NBC won't get to run any of the debates. They are in the tank for Obama. NBC News is the headquarters for Obama 2008. America can't afford to vote for Obama. The risk is too great. McCain has some of Ronald Reagan in him. He's going to make a great President!

KMB are you retarded John Mc Cain is 72yrs old if you think a Harvard grad (who's 25yrs younger) 47 and is way ahead of the old man in career terms will "wipe" him out, uh don't answer that you might burn out what few brain cells that you have left. The last great President we had who was really smart went to Georgetown University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and we had the most economic grow in US history, guess who... I'll answer that for ya William Jefferson Clinton... you're an idiot

  • Mccain and Palin a dose of stupidity - 16 years ago

This is a move of pure desperation. John Mccain's 2nd version of the political hailmary. The first being that meth loving Mormon whore Palin. Anyone who believes that hes really doing this because his hearts behind fixing the problem at hand doesnt know shit about politics and should stop making themselves even more retarded or misinformed by watching FOX news. Congress has already insisted that both candidates dont come because they might be a hindrance. And as for FOX news, any station that employs shitheads like Bill Oreilly and John hannity dont deserve air time. They deserve shower time in a federal prison. As do their habitual viewers and Mccain and Palin supporters.

  • LindaKearney - 16 years ago

Hummmm Obama said this is AN IMPORTANT ISSUE........then said he'd "go back to Washington IF NEEDED!"....funny if he doesn't consider this a really important enough issue to go back on his own...the Pres had to CALL HIM BACK....McCain saw the NEED to go back and oversee this congress try and get it right this time.... he showed he cares! Guess my vote goes for McCAIN!

  • sick of obama - 16 years ago

There's really just one question to ask yourself:
Who would you trust, someone who suffered as a prisoner of war for the sake of his country or someone who has ties to an admitted unrepentant american terrorist? If you can answer that question truthfully, then you would know who you should vote for.

  • Tommy Ates - 16 years ago

Obama only thinks of Obama.. ck Obamas record..
To Actcal Solutions Not Distraction Politics,, Ck the records McClain try to pass bill that would have help stop this mess. The Democrat party block the bill.. Dem are to blame for this mess.. The Dem's are hatefull..

Will you all please stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Everything about this is political - McCain and Obama.

  • Nana-Adwoa Oforo - 16 years ago

I was truly shocked to see the numbers of votes of Americans who state they actually believe that McCain is "tending to the country." As an American I believe that with the election in a couple of weeks, this is the exact moment that the two men who are cintenders for the White House, need to make clear to the public on how they will deal with the stagering economy. If John McCain is such a "maverick" he should channel his true grit and face Obama like a man!
It's a political rise and this American ain't buying it!

  • Lisa - 16 years ago

McCain is a man of action. It's not about multi-tasking, it's about PRIORITIES! Whatever the outcome is of the bailout, the next president will be dealing with it. I would think they would want to be intimately involved with the decision process. Not to mention, we are PAYING them as senators to be involved!

  • Quentin Plymale - 16 years ago

The media made a very big deal yesterday of Harry Reid telling McCain to get back to Congress. Then, changed the story and barely mentioned it today. The Democratic Party was trying to box him in. They were playing politics. I think McCain's character speaks for itself. He's showing and acting like a leader. It impressed me that he's going to do it. All the senators should be there. If, nothing else, Obama represents the people of Illinois. He should be there for that alone.

  • Glinda - 16 years ago

As always, McCain will do whatever is necessary to help us and his country. Big difference between him and Obama!!!!!

  • x x - 16 years ago

John McCain is a disgraceful liar who cheated on and left his first wife. Good choice.

  • Mike Padgett - 16 years ago

He has proved time and time again that he is a 'country first' guy. This is another way that he proves it.

  • GOP Blair - 16 years ago

    McCain wears depends!

  • andy - 16 years ago

Tommy Ates, Obama has room in his campaign

  • Mary - 16 years ago

I believe McCain is putting his country first. Look at his history and that speaks volumes. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Regardless of the meaning behind what he is doing, I believe his being there is what is important. I am pleased that he is returning to DC to work out this economic crisis. I also believe that the debate ought to go on with a change of focus completely on the economy. I am very interested to hear their perspectives and their solutions. Perhaps the debate does not take away the focus. Instead it creates focus.

  • Hubert - 16 years ago

McCain is certainly not afraid to debate Obama. He's wanted to debate him for some time. Obama should be thankful that McCain delayed the debate.

  • June McCaffrey - 16 years ago

He was actually called to Washington by President Bush to help settle the bailout bill ...so was Obama.

  • Ryan - 16 years ago

    "Sandra StaatsSep 24, 2008 10:16pm ET
What will Obama do, debate himself Friday?"

Well, Obama's flip-flopped enough, I think an Obama v. Obama debate would be interesting...

  • zola kahn - 16 years ago

McCain is answering his country's call for action as he is used to doing. He is very patriotic and that cannot be said of B.O.

  • Gul - 16 years ago

Senators McCain, Obama and Biden are still on the taxpayers' payroll. It is important that they attend to important issues; such as a Financial Crisis.

  • June McCaffrey - 16 years ago

He was actually called to Washington by President Bush to help settle the bailout bill ...so was Obama.

  • Terry Beitel - 16 years ago

McCain believes it's the right thing to do. This is not new to McCain to put our Country first. If this is not settled there won't be a country left to lead. McCain is doing the right thing. In this house, we trust him.

  • Aaron - 16 years ago

Its just like Gov. Palin said, Sen. McCain uses his career to promote change, not change to promote his career. He is doing what he has always done and thats putting the country first! I commend Sen McCain!

  • Tommy Ates - 16 years ago

MOMMY, why don't Republicans pay attention to facts or history?

  • Jo Ann - 16 years ago

John McCain is the first HONEST politician we have had campaigning for president in years and years. I totally trust him and believe in him. Now, Barrack Obama is a different story. He is sneaky and secretive. What is he hiding??? John McCain has my vote for sure.

  • paula - 16 years ago

Why does Obama get credit for the statement they both signed. He didn't have a clue what to do for the people other than to direct us to socialism. I for one want to sustain our freedom. McCain had the ideas of not campaigning and going to Washington and he should get the acknowledgment for it. I am so afraid the bill will pass and they will slither through extra things we will not know as is often the case. I do not trust them and McCain cannot fight all of them and I am sure he will take the brunt. How come I hear so little of Sen Dodd and B. Frank? Is anyone going to make them accountable? I continue to believe this election is between good and evil. I pray God will be with us. Sarah is a true person. They must win for the good of our country.By the way, has Obama's wife been put in the closet ? Have not seen her since the games on the "view".

  • S B - 16 years ago

  • Sue - 16 years ago

  • kmb - 16 years ago

What is wrong with you liberals? This contest has absolutely NOTHING to do with race! It is only blacks who want to keep playing the race card! I don't care if B. Hussein Obama is purple!
What matters is that he is a SOCIALIST, along with Biden! Yeah--you rich people should give your money to the government to be patriotic!
What matters is that he is ANTI-American! Yeah, Let's change our anthem to "I'd like to teach the world to sing" HA! Idiotic! He only now is plastering his platforms with flags that he doesn't believe in!
What matters is that HE is racist! He hates whites and wants to promote blacks over whites. It's time to stop any race from stepping on others!
What matters is that he would let BABIES die if they are survivors of an abortion attempt! DISPICABLE!
What matters is that he pays his female staff lower than his male staff!! What a liar!!
    B. Hussein Obama is an empty shirt. There are strings attached to him that the Muslims are pulling!
    AMERICA BEWARE!!!!

  • marie - 16 years ago

McCain did make the right decision. He is a man with word of honor. He is a man of action getting the job done putting politics aside.he does have more common sense than Obama. Obama is harvard educated individual but not as smart like the rest of them. He seems to be more of a booksmart than being naturally intelligent. Intelligent individuals do an extemporaneous speeches well without preparation and do it themselves ocassionally. He is a typical politician no different than the rest of them.

  • Patti - 16 years ago

This is classic McCain. He had already stated that he did not agree completely with the President's plan, and he sees that Congress is dragging its feet in this crisis, and he is not going to stand idly by and just let happen whatever happens! He's genuinely concerned and is coming in to lead us through the crisis. Serving a cause greater than himself, again.

Sen. McCain will always put "Country First"-
The Debate Topic is "Foreign Policy", his strong suit- That alone tells you he is a leader; foregoing his campaign to help all Americans who are suffering in this economic CRISIS- Hopefully a bi-partisan solution will be reached by Friday & Sen. McCain can debate as scheduled -

  • rh - 16 years ago

I've seen several comments saying McCain is scared to debate Obama. It was Obama who refused to join McCain in the town hall meetings. I guess the community organizer experience did not train him for town hall meetings. I would bet on Governor Palin against Barrack Hussein Obama any day. With friends and piritual advisors like Wright, Ayers, Fluger, Farracon, who needs enemies.

  • sdpper - 16 years ago

Tommy Ates, , How would Obamma get to the White House when he is AFRAID to do his job as a Senator and confront a crisis?

  • Gene - 16 years ago

This is a big cop-out opportunity for John McCain. He's in so deep with campaign problems that he's looking for any way to change his image - a tired looking, frazzeled, befuddled senior citizen with a constantly changing campaign pitch. Go to the White House for a great photo op, John. Cancel the debate and give your team time to find a new course. Meanwhile, Obama looks and acts more presidential every day.

  • Marjean - 16 years ago

How would John McCain get to the White House when he is AFRAID to debate Barack Obama?

McCain has invited Obama to participate in town hall type discussions all year! *I heard it was was 10 invites, but I don't know that for sure.

I truly doubt that McCain is afraid of anything... least of all a debate on foreign policy with Obama.

What hutzpah for him to keep coming on your show and giving his opinion. He should crawl under a rock.

For months the President has said everything is "ok", and now 3 days before a major debate we "NEED" McCain and Barack? How could any intelligent voter believe this. It's a perfect plot in the "Disney Hockey Mom/Maverick for President" saga. Unfortunately, this crisis will last more than 1hour and 40 minutes. Go to the meeting, have the 90 minute debate!!!

  • Tim Vencill - 16 years ago

  • Al Pippin - 16 years ago

John McCain is absolutely a man of character - one of whom has already demonstrated to all that he feels that his / our country does indeed come first. I readily recall McCain adamently supporting the "surge" in Iraq, contrary to what then was a rather unpopular proposition amongst his fellow senators (including Barack Obama) and many many others in the public sector - and then making the statement that he had rather lose a campaign then lose a war. He is truly a man of principles - and apparently at any and all costs.

  • Bill - 16 years ago

    Hey Ladies & Gentlemen:

America is getting it! Have you seen the polls lately. McCain is dropping like a lead baloon and Obama's numbers are going up
Of course it's a politial stunt...He's got to continue to figure out a way to keep changing the subject....COUNTRY FIRST....HA.....MCCAIN AND POLITICS FIRST!

  • Ronnie - 16 years ago

Just watched President Bush speak on CSPAN (I like to watch unbiased news and make up my own mind about the issues) Then I checked the cable news channels to see reactions. I saw your poll and had to vote. It suprised me to see that 11% of your viewers see the truth and see that John McCain's campaign has resorted to political stunts. Not news to me. I like McCain but I hate what his campaign has done to him. I want the real McCain to stand up. If not I will vote for Obama.

  • Mike - 16 years ago

you can tell that fox is the headquarters for McCain. just look at all the comments. this is such a scam on McCains parts and all the fox viewer cannot see this. he is loosing in the polls and what a better way to try and gain ground. America first, what I line of Sh**. why don't he stand up and be a real man and concede the election before he become embarrassed in the general election

  • SK - 16 years ago

McCain did the same thing he's always done. He saw his country in trouble, fellow Americans in trouble, and a threat to his nation and he set his mind that Country comes first regardless of what critics and opponents might say about it. (Or how they would twist his motives into some sort of self gratifying campaign move) Please....

He asked Obama to come with him to Washington. He asked the President for a bi-partisan meeting including Obama.... hours later apparently McCain's idea struck a positive chord because later in the evening, the President called for both men to meet in Washington to work on a solution. So yay, Obama has now decided to be present for the people. While McCain made a move to roll up his sleeves and get to work, (which BOTH men are paid for) it was notable that Obama had to be invited even though according to his own words this is a problem that needs "swift action" and a situation that could lead to circumstances mirroring the "great depression".

McCain warned about these problems and initiated an argument about it what .... 2 years ago? He's been on the ball the whole time, he's a leader, he's a doer, he's once again getting directly involved, and getting to work across party lines to get problems solved for the country. He's being paid to do a job and he'd DOING his job. He's not satisfied issuing a statement when there is a crisis of this magnitude on the backs of the American people.

For this voter, I saw what I needed to see. Who will take action when we need them most and who will wait and see, or require persuasion to get his butt to work for the people who are putting him in office.

    Commander means TO COMMAND.

McCain should send Palin to debate Obama. That would prove she's ready to take his place in a moment's notice....and it'd show how weak he is on foreign policy when she cleans his clock.

  • Gary Greenfield - 16 years ago

John McCain is a TRUE leader and cares about our country. He can always have this Friday's debate another day. Mr. Obama has put off other debates so many times I have lost count. Mr. OBAMA is full of air---and has Only ONE person in mind--HIMSELF. John McCain wants action. Jonh McCain also wants to do the BEST for our country. Obama always points fingers at others and never gives any solutions. Please America DO-NOT let Obama treat us like we are some "rock star GROUPEEESSSSS" Elect someone that thinks with his mind and heart not his EGO.

Well lests see, they are getting paid over 100K by us (tax payers) to do a job. They only one doing their job is McCain. Seems to me that Obama is demonstraiting special interests first, American people second. So he either don't care about us or he's lazy, either way i don't want that kind of guy as my president.

  • kmb - 16 years ago

Oh, I wish Newt Gingrich was running for President! His solution is excellent. But McCain will get my vote because you can tell he really loves our country and wants to help fix this crisis.
What Mark Cuban says is right. Don't give money to the pin heads that caused this mess in the first place!
Anyone who doesn't know the reason for this crisis needs to do some research! Congress has been punishing the banks for being "racist" and forced them to make bad loans to poor risk people who couldn't afford what they were borrowing! Mortgage companies had to go into poor inner city neighborhoods and make loans, and congress would award them with high ratings. Guess what! There's a reason people with low credit ratings shouldn't get loans! DUH.
Now you and I get to help out this welfare state mentality!! Well, I say NO WAY!
We will see how the candidates think by what kind of solution they come up with!
The debate is worthless. McCaine will wipe him out! Obama hasn't been able to stand up to anyone face-to-face! obama is all "uh, I, uh," unless he has a teleprompter!

Obsama Bin Biden Do you know the difference between a town hall meeting and a debate? There hasn't been an issue about when and where a DEBATE would be held just the format, Sen. MCcain couldn't debate a fly on the wall. Several well informed lawmakers have already weighed in that Sen MCcain or Sen Obama don't need to be present for anything, neither one is on the commitee, doing the negotiations for the buy out. You Republicans just spin, spin, spin and when someone does the dirty tactics you do, you call it a personal attck and it's "unfair" or a "smear tactic" something similar to the "swift boat" attacks on John Kerry 4 yrs ago....AMAZING

If this were a genuine effort on Sen. Mccain's part for the parties to come together, why would he not have included Sen. Obama in his initial announcement?

In a crisis of this magnitude facing our nation, it is evident who has the leadership needed to make Today's difficult decisions. This one affects the economy and all of us. John McCain is acting in our country's best interests and by extension, in the best interests of the American people. A debate can be postponed for a few days or a week, etc. On the other hand, the financial crisis cannot wait! Elected officials should be serving us by helping to resolve the huge problem at hand in a timely fashion, yet not acting too hastily. I agree that politics need to be put aside, come together, get the job done. McCain makes sense!

So, now McCain doesn't want to debate, huh? Gee, nothing to do with those new LOWER poll numbers, I guess. Looks like he wants to hunker down with Scaredy Cat Sarah Palin and hide from the big bad media. Boo-hoo... now go away all you meanies and let us just run the country without having to actually talk to anyone.
He will come out of this looking worse than he did before. Someone should tell him that we have telephones and they are great for keeping in touch while one has things to do elsewhere- like preparing for a presidential debate.

I applaud Senator McCain. As always, he continues to demonstrate his intense love of this country and its people. Once again, he temporarily aborted his campaign and took the risk of losing the presidency to go to Washington for the sake of the country. He has aways and will always put country first. This is the kind of president this country needs. It is his nature and the character of this amazing man. He didn't walk away when given the chance in Hanoi and he didn't walk away with business as usual, as Obama thinks he should have. The debates should be postponed. The economy of this country and this immediate crisis must be a priority. Isn't it interesting that it tookl a personal phone call from Bush to get him to Washington. Prior to that phone call his response was "if you need me". Doesn't he feel the need to be there??
He'd feel foolish voting "present" again. I personally am very proud of McCain and this just reenforces that he is the leader and kind of man this country needs.

YOU GO, McCAIN...YOUR TRUE HEART, SPIRIT AND COLORS REALLY HAVE BEEN REVEALED TODAY WITH THIS DECISION...TO PUT COUNTRY FIRST...
AS YOU HAVE SAID FROM THE BEGINNING!!!I AM SOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!

If you have any doubt that John McCain isn't putting his country first you must read books "Beyond Survival" by Gerald Coffey and "The Passing of the Night" by Robinson Risner. John McCain was there with them and suffered the same experiences.
The "Hanoi Hilton" was a extreme test of these men. They survived with honor.

I don't think taking out 3 or 4 hours on Friday is going to cause our country to take a dive. We can't go much farther down than we already are. I thought the president was supposed to be in the drivers seat. He's been in hiding until today. John McCain is a good guy but I think everyone knows that whether he misses a few hours on Friday or not, the country will not fall apart. He's either a legend in his own mind or it's a political stunt! PERIOD!!. They'll work it out with or without McCain or Obama. ON WITH THE DEBATE!

Ppl, really is Mc cain puting country first? NO .Obama was the first one who contacted Mc cain on working together for the best interest of our country however,Macain "PANIC" and called a press confrence suspended his campaign This is not the first time he did that ....... Do we want an UNSTABLE man at this crictical time to be president of our country? OUR answer should be HELL NO....HELL NO We do respect Mc cain for his past service to our country however, we NEED a stroung Critical Thinker in the OVAL OFFICE and i am SURE it is not Mc cain ...............OBAMA ALL THE WAY

McCain is obviously putting his country before self. I don't find this surprising as it is just another example of the character he has displayed throughout the campaign. Neither am I surprised by Obama's choices, as he too has already more than demonstrated what he is made of, not a lot of substance. Why would we think anyone who doesn't feel it necessary to stand during our national anthem and is buddy buddy with an unrepentant domestic terrorist woud put our country first?
