McCain is putting the country first and is willing to fall behind in poles and even lose the election if it means fixing a crisis for our nation. Obama wants to talk about things and McCain is willing to put it all on the line, roll up his sleeves and work us all to resolve this. Some men can give a great talk, McCain doesn't talk about it, he gets in it and does something! I have less respect for Obama knowing that he is out for himself and not for all of us.

Sen. McCain's going to Washington shows the true great character of this man. He is a truly great American.

Political Stunt! And Greta is supposed to be the LIBERAL program! Greta now carries the GOP talking points! SHAME on Greta!! FOX NEWS= GOP PROPAGANDA!!

  • Roy - 16 years ago

McCain's desperation was transparent and did not work. Senator Obama's level-headed approach was the correct response. The McCain campaign's "talking points" memo clearly illustrates the political hack move. The American people are not fooled. With each passing week McCain and Co. demonstrate why he is the wrong choice for POTUS.

McCain is just the kind of guy we need in these times! I knew Obsama would rather continue with politics of derision instead of joining in the fray with everyone else to help the economy. If I were running I'd do the same as McCain, and one of my proposals would be to cut all of Congress's paychecks by half. If the military (like myself) is willing to be paid less than civilians, then I think the Congress ought to be paid less than us!

Both candidates made the right decision. Obama has nothing to contribute so he should keep campaigning. McCain has a lot to contribute so he needs to go to Washington and get the job done.

McCain knows that he is being paid to assist in finding a solution to this major problem and getting America back on the road to economic recovery. HE wants to actually DO some work. Obama wants to just talk about it. That's all he can do is talk. He has not done any work since he has been elected. Since he has been running for president for the majority of time since elected, he should NOT be collecting a paycheck. WHY would any sane person want to elect Obama as president? I would not hire him to work at my business-he job hops too much on his resumes!

  • Vicki Hughes - 16 years ago

A true economic crises and Obama still wants to be "present" instead of being there for the people. And what a joke, the president had to call him to get him to come and do his job!!!!

  • Rita Moeller - 16 years ago

He's been hired by the people of Arizona to work for them in the Senate. Now he knows it is time to work. So he's going back to work. John McCain has never been a guy who is "all about McCain". Look at his history. He's always been about the U.S.A. not about the M.C.C.A.I.N. Thank God there's one or two left in the Congress!

I don't believe its a political stunt, but if it is it only shows how smart McCain is. Smart political move and a smart American move. GO McCain thanks for thinking about someone else besides your self.

  • JustMe - 16 years ago

McCain is putting Country First and showing leadership. GWB is implementing McCain's recommendation (in his initial public statement) by calling both candidates and leaders in Congress from both parties to work a bipartisan solution. Assuming they come up with a bipartisan package that passes, McCain will have demonstrated true bipartisan leadership.

Since this IS A CRISIS, they should by all means be working on this buy out bill until they come up with the right solution even f it takes all weekend! A debate can wait until this crisis can be handled. Priorities!

  • Tom - 16 years ago

He actually cares about our country, it's just that simple. He's ready to pass on the debate he was sure to win in order to do what he needs to and should do.

  • maxine pinkerton - 16 years ago

senator McCain is interested in getting this crisis solved. Sen. Obama just wants to keep his face out there and keep running his negative ads.

  • Ron in Fl - 16 years ago

What McCain is doing is what a true hero would do a real President PUTTING AMERICA FIRST

  • Angie - 16 years ago

Ditto! I am so sick of the partisan politics. When will they (the politicians) get it? That we elect them to represent US the citizens - not the Democrat Party or Republican Party!!!

  • Aviva - 16 years ago

The Democratic congress and Obama turned the economic crisis to a political tool! What is wrong with going to Washington and get things done this week and debate Monday evening? What is going to change in two days to debate but a deep depression can happen if we can not act this week!HUH

John McCain is doing what he has done many times through his career...he is putting his country first. McCain knows that the American people expect nothing less of him, and he is ready and willing to accomodate, even at the expense of his campaign for President.

  • Hannah Wilson - 16 years ago

I think that McCain suspending his campaigning is really smart move because it is showing the public that he is willing to put politics aside for the good of our country.

  • Larry Pierson - 16 years ago

When hasn't McCain put his country first? He has a long history of doing so and even IF it is beneficial for the campaign there is no "if" in his work ethic and sense of duty.

  • Carl Roden - 16 years ago

McCain is a true leader who actually fought for this country in a way that Barak Obama never has. We need a real hero like him and not a "community leader" who listens to people like Jeremiah Wright.

  • Sandra Staats - 16 years ago

What will Obama do, debate himself Friday?

  • Leslie - 16 years ago

he is not ready to debate Obama and maybe never will be. Obama will walk all over him in a debate!

  • Bruce MacKinnon - 16 years ago

Maybe Hilary was right concerning the 3 am phone call. Obama obviously would say " Thanks for calling. Keep me posted and if I can do anything in the morning, I'll be available to chat again. I can multitask... I will dream about the problem while I'm sleeping ". McCain would say " I'll be right there, and I'll do anything I can to help ".

Obama owes it to his constituents to BE in Washington and help to hammer out an agreement if this financial crisis is as important as our leaders tell us that it is. It's not acceptable for him to just say that he'd keep in touch, then wait to see how everyone else deals with the problem.

Today made up my mind in this election.

  • Me - 16 years ago

The fact that he's suspending fundraising and campaign ads says a lot. He's one of the good guys on the hill. I hope we can make him one of the good ones in the Oval Office!!!

  • Nancy - 16 years ago

McCain is putting our country first! Just what a Presidential candidate should do. Shame on Obama for putting his PERSONAL feelings first - does you show you what is important to him - his personal feelings or Presidential feelings towards our country. Go McCain! My kind of President.

  • KC - 16 years ago

If John McCain really wanted to put country first, he would endorse Borack Obama.

  • Chris - 16 years ago

John McCain has proved once again that he will always put his country first!!

  • Total Stunt - 16 years ago

its called multitasking, what is supposed to be expected of a president!!

  • Samantha - 16 years ago

It's nice to finally see that someday is giveing him recongition. For putting country first and repersenting the country that stood by him during his hard times in Hanoy.

  • Christie Roman - 16 years ago

Of course McCain is doing the right thing. He is a PAID Senator & he is doing his job. Country First!

  • Jim - 16 years ago

When the dust settles, we'll get the truth. I have a hunch the Dems have something to fear, a paper-trail!

  • voter - 16 years ago

Why should obama go back to dc., to vote "present"?

  • games games games - 16 years ago

He did it to give an excuse to get Palin out of her debate.

  • SICK OF POLITICIANS - 16 years ago

McCain is going back to the Senate to work on a crisis. Thats what he's getting paid to do in the senate. It doesn't surprise me that Reid says they don't need Obama! How often can one vote "present". With Obama its all about running for the Presidency and NOT putting the American people first. ESPECIALLY since he's one of the politicians that were NOT doing their jobs and let this happen. We've had a democratic senate for over 2 years. Certainly have NOT been watching the big guys. Greenspan, Bush and McCain warned them about May & Mac several years ago and they said "not to worry". Thanks DEMOCRATIC PARTY! And some of you think Obama's going to fix it? He was part of the big problem. I'm sick of Washington and politicians..................
