    Dear King Alfred,

How many commas is too many?

    When they're incorrectly used.

There are four principal uses for a comma –

As a listing comma in replace of words such as and, or etc.

As a joining comma in joining two sentences together with and, or etc.

As a gapping comma to show that words have been removed instead of repeated.

As a bracketing (or isolating) comma to mark off a weak interruption of the sentence so the sentence flows more smoothly.

It's worth taking time to understand how these four main comma uses are used and in doing so it will help you remove all the unnecessary or incorrectly used ones.

Nigel Simpson, no it can't. All meat labelled as reared in the uk must by law have been reared in the uk. It's not legal or possible for meat to be imported whole. Imported meat must be slaughtered and packaged.

Of course national flags are appropriate and ought to be displayed on produce from that area. The thing that bothers me is produce grown or reared abroad in the EU can be imported to UK and packed here, as if it had been reared here. It is then displayed as British Beef, British Dairy or British Produce, with a line such as 'produce of EU countries' in small print on the label. Maybe someone could design a big EU symbol which would be used on merchandise that is an 'across borders' product. If we are to remain in the EU I would also expect that produce from any countriy carries the national flag of that source country.

Well, Johnny Turd, note the use of capital letters where appropriate, and the correct placement of commas. Aside from these observations, The Union Flag is exactly what is painted on the tin; that being the flag of the Union, not the flag of England. You are part of a problem, not the solution. Grow up.
