Did the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead go too far?

It was violence porn. Eventually only those with a high tolerance for brutality will watch the show.

It was meant to be distasteful. It was meant to be violent. It was meant to challenge you as a viewer and a fan. The Walking Dead is not a safe tv show for the characters, and it therefore should not be a safe tv show for you.

Negan was trying to shock the group, and by extension, the viewers. If you "can't watch it anymore" then I'd say the writers, actors, violence, and Negan did a fantastic job!

Having watched every episode since the beginning, this family of 5 is done. No need for the over the top gratuitous violence. Disappointed that we won't be watching our favorite show together anymore.

Children shouldn't watch TWD anyway! The show is definitely not for the weak-minded. THIS. WAS. THE. BEST. EPISODE. EVER. The producers wanted to trigger emotions we have never felt in the show. They have accomplished that. You all should read Issue 100! Negan is a sick and twisted man! TWD has always been a watered down version compared to the comic. They were not lying when this is only the beginning!

Been a big TWD fan for years. There was a "campiness" to zombie killing, thrills, and great exploration of characters maintaining their humanity. But the brutality and excessive drawn out violence was so sickening in the season 7 premiere, that I was extremely disappointed in the writers. This level of violent entertainment desensitizes the viewers to brutality. It is not uplifting and praiseworthy, and it certainly is not acceptable. I'm sad that I will no longer be watching my favorite show... But I want to protect my sensitive and compassionate soul. Sorry, you've lost a fan.

YES they went way overboard! I loved this show but this was literally traumatizing! After 7 years I'd being a loyal fan I don't think I'll ever watch it again! The brutal murders were WAY TOO GRAPHIC! NOT COOL AMC!

• Kevin - 7 years ago

We literally witnessed 2 legitimate murders. Not ok. Way too graphic. Zombies is one thing, but now brutal and graphic killings among the humans? They've gone too far. No need to go to that extent to get the point across. Good writers don't need extreme displays of brutality to paint the picture of who he is. We're done watching now. It's no longer creative; it's now about pushing the envelope. Disgusting and disappointing.

The the turn outs in the season seven premier was something not a lot of us expected to happen. Maybe Abraham had died but were we left thinking that was it? Yes and no. Yes because Rick didn't revisit it right after the moment. And no because well, they had to kill glen too.

My point is the TWD season seven premier was a great episode. Despite having two of our fellow members die and our Daryl baby taken away.

A little bit too graphic, but if it wasn't we would have been complaining that we didn't get to see the way they looked when they died.

It's currently 3:15 AM and I'm still thinking about the walking dead.

I just hope our Daryl baby is okay.

I loved this program , but it was too graphic. I wanted to enjoy watching it have seen every episode. . It made me sick. To watch the chacters I love suffer so much . There's enough real suffering in this world to watch this I'm finished with the show !

• Chantal - 7 years ago

I may be the only one here who was traumatized not by the violence, but by the animatronics used with glens face after the first bashing. I was so uncomfortable.

• Bill g - 7 years ago

Kill Glen , sorry I wanted watch this I turn on news , zombie phsyco, Rick you should killed this idiot on the rv. Sick took the fun out of the show and I read the comics

• RJ - 7 years ago

We're done with this show. The sadism is over the top. You can show someone is a sick f--k without going on an on.

Another commit. When are they going to stop messing around and take off Rick's hand. 0h wait, they faked that tonight so.... gee I wonder if it will flop around like a sweet chicken's body after a beheading. Oh no, I've read ahead in the comics, poor kiddie kat, poor owner. Talk about boring, read the comics and you have the script. Plus they have been doing this in Fantasy books for 25 plus years. Make you love a character, or a group (the White Gold bearer series-GIANTS) and brutally kill them off. Oh, yeah that H B O series. I'm just over the stupidly of it. Really thought the comment about it will bring them closer as a family! Ha ha aha. Last point The Talking dead and the inane talking by the actors as if they are talking out what the characters are thinking inside and the audience asking them the questions as if the characters they play are real. I was getting sick of the show before tonight! This episode just sealed the deal! I wrote this, had trouble getting it to post, and so copied it, nd attempted to resubmit it. It is not spam. Cant stand Spam, oh Sam I am!

Read the graphic novels. This is a pivotal moment in the graphic novels as well as the show (I'm assuming). Completely necessary to establishing how sick an individual Negan is, the horror of the moment to the survivors and the subjugation of Rick. If it made people uncomfortable then I think Robert Kirkman's story is doing its job and is being compelling. I read the graphic novels between seasons 5 & 6 and trust me, the writers of the show, AMC, FCC or whoever has made the decision to tame it down in many areas of the story from that of the comics. The show is a much friendlier version of the 2 stories. A no-rules, everyone for themselves, post apocalyptic zombie world is not a pretty place and I imagine the graphic novels are probably believable as a more accurate representation of how difficult life could be in that circumstance.

Loved TWD. I've never missed a episode. But this was to much. Very sad because I will no longer watch one of my favorite shows. Not as long as Negan is a character that is.

• W - 7 years ago

And how the hell would you know what would happen in a real apocalypse. Are you a scientist? Full of yourself def. Not a show for children... great argument champ.

• W - 7 years ago

Haha yeah I'm still reading the opinions here. I just thought it was pretty distasteful like one person said or maybe most here. I really still do like the shown is what I meant, probably just gonna stop watching though. Yeah I'm an idiot just like you said. Let me see one photo of you and I will probably be able to tell If you are one yourself. Not reading here anymore.

Our joke was don't love Rick or your done! Don't be highlighted, or your done. It is also don't be decent and have a moral compass or your done. I saw a 1945 short on the Nazis trails and it showed extremely graphic pictures of prisoners of war, children, and Jewish peoples and how their bodies were found. Really amazing? how sadistic people can be. Now this show and it's creators earners show me that "attitude is still very much with us! I am now done with the show.

It was too much. My wife and I didn't even finish watching after Glenn was killed. Honestly, I know it's just a tv show but it was too much. I'm done with TWD

• Jordan - 7 years ago

Lol W your a loser killing zombies or watching a human get ripped to part like Noah all good but human's killing human's oh no to much. Get real and get over yourself your an idiot and this only reflects what would actually happen in a zombie apoc it's not a show for children and knowing the type of show it is and expecting to not see people kill people just plain stupid. You see it in movie's all the time but tv it's to far.

• Socorro C. Chavez - 7 years ago

It wasnt necessary for negan to go ranting and raving for so long. That was overdone to boredom. The writers putting the main characters to the point of breaking their spirit and dignity shows disrespect to the group as a whole. NOT COOL WRITERS

• Jordan - 7 years ago

Was awesome one of the best episode's in a long time and these wimp's need to get over themselves so stupid like you watched walking dead for how long 7 year's?Wouldn't you know it's based off a comic book and Glen getting his head bashed in just like the book was perfect.

• W - 7 years ago

Really used to like the show. Smashing in a zombie or something non-human was okay, maybe even fun, but killing other people, and making it this graphic is not necessary. Watching this and hearing kids younger than me giggle to the sight of it all kind of makes me wonder what's happening to our society. Maybe my mom just taught me well. Let's wait months just to see our characters die. Anyone that actually likes this or gets pleasure from this?... Its just a TV show and its not worthing watching if its this gut wrenching for some people. They are just trying to push television to its limits and I think its not really good for people in general. Not helping in any way. Judge me if you want but I'm tired of the show. Love the actors though.

• Eugene - 7 years ago

I felt it was to much. Not just because it was on TV and not in a movie, it was just the easy way out to shock. Talented writers and directors can get far more feeling from an audience without resorting to having to just show violence.
The brutality was displayed on their faces and understood.

This was too much and carried on far too long.

• Lisa - 7 years ago

I've been an avid fan since day one along with my husband. We have been eagerly anticipating The season premiere tonight. we are appalled at how far the writers took it. I am angered and disgusted . Mostly angry because I will no longer be watching my favorite show !! Walking dead writers, you ruined it for me !!

• Eugene - 7 years ago

Over the top graphic horror. Extremely disappointed with the amount of head bashing of humans vs zombies. The line was crossed for what should be on TV.

• Gloria - 7 years ago

I used to love to watch "The walking dead" but after how they started the 7th season , I just cant watch it no more , I thought this show was amazing at first but now its just to much to handle

• Ana - 7 years ago

Negan proved himself by just killing Abraham, i dont think it was necessary to kill the 2nd person (Glenn). It was too graphic. I ended up with so much pain in the back of my neck.

• Delicia - 7 years ago

Why Glen, i hate that he was the chosen one. I am so confuse. Very intense episode, i just need to get over loosing Glen.

• Tony - 7 years ago

Best thing it has happened yet. We thought the governor was badass. This guy is effen crazy. Totally necessary. good job TWD

• Deven - 7 years ago

Yes it was gruesome.... BUT it was necessary and I think perfect for the show.

• Tom - 7 years ago

Watching tonight's episode was so brutal i think i am now suffering for PTSD...

• Janine - 7 years ago

Sickening sadism and graphic violence made me feel they are into shock and awe. There's enough of that in real war. Not a fan. It could have been told without the gruesome horror shots. Very disappointed.

• Justin - 7 years ago

It's the walking dead! Of course it was violent, but badass!

• Nacole - 7 years ago

Definitely necessary! And come on it's TV, it's not real! Loved it!
