Tim League: Elle is not a Feminist Film; It is the Portrait of a Serial Killer perfectly matches my own interpretation and makes for a much more interesting and disturbing film.

I can't pick a side because I agree with neither!
Both of these people talk about how she is motivated by revenge and becomes the one in charge instead of the victim. I don't even believe that is true. She is both and she is neither.
This film is FULL of nuance and complications. Both critics are wrong to me. They both have many valid points, but being focused on one side instead of being able to see the complexities of the film is what is wrong. You cannot find one answer and boil the character down so vastly.
I do agree with, "tell your friends about the wonderful, nuanced, challenging, artful and rather frightening film Elle." but my motivation for that is not because I respect the film's story but because I think it is challenging.
I identify as a feminist and want to smash the patriarchy down, so don't celebrate this film in the sense of "loving" it. I allow myself and my thoughts on this film to be as complicated as the character's motivations and emotions. It's all real fucked up.
