Ideally all displays will be heads up and all controls on the steering wheel allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Tesla has been very innovative so lets give them a chance.
I love the swiss watches/guages! It only. Takes one second,
Road Hunting, count 1 2 3, look back at the road. 1 2 3,look back at the road! And Drive Straight ahead and don't turn the wheel! To miss a squirrel. Hawks fly straight
Hello Tesla Cognoscenti,
I agree with the many other commenters that this is truly perplexing!
I see a blank canvas, whereas the Model S has one of the most beautiful and ergonomic dashes in the world.
Agreed also that the display not built into the dash, looks like a last minute throw in not worthy of a TESLA.
UNLESS there is a serious alternative that comes out-- like an awe inspiring new version of a HUD with clear voice controls for example, if the dash remains blank I will pull back my $1000 Deposit.
I would much prefer to have a full-size mint condition Model S for $40,ooo with 25K Miles--than a Model 3,
which will be smaller and possibly with no instrument cluster. Truly disappointing but the Jury is still out!!
Perplexed in Austin, TX :(
I wish that some controls were a bit easier to find. The first time I drove a Model S, the person who was loaning me the car showed me how to use all of the important controls (ie turn signals, autopilot, transmission, etc). When he was finished, he stepped away before I realized that the overhead lamp wasn't going to turn off by itself (I couldn't find a switch at a place where you'd expect, like next to the light, and so I drove a couple of blocks hoping that it might turn off by itself). It took me a couple of minutes to go through these menus and figure out how to turn that light off (so that I could see out the windshield). If I'm going to have to go digging through an IPad's screens to find an important control, it should be very easy to find.
But even then, I shouldn't have to take my eyes off the road to find that switch. I should just be able to reach and find the light switch without taking my eyes off the road. Having everything controlled from an iPad that I have to look down at isn't necessarily the best approach.
Yeah, this poll didn't do it for me. Rubbish. Meh. The issue is more nuanced than this. I would never answer any of these.
These polling answers are all garbage. Its like, Which one do you want to report that you dont like about it. Your bias is showing....
Having used a car with most controls on a touch screen I can say it is awful. You have to look at the screen to ensure you press the right button, there is no tactile feedback, and unless the software is well optimised there can be delays in pressing and responding. In an environment where safety needs to come first I would rather real buttons and not virtual ones.
This poll is awful. What about a positive option?
I wish there was a "I like it as is" sort of a really poor poll to be honest... clearly you don't like it. I think a HUD is lame, and I'd rather minimalist.
this poll is ridiculously too minimalist...more minimalist than the model 3 interior.
Not all people really want a HUD. Some people would rather enjoy the view.
Too many displays can distract from the real focus...driving. I'm all for it. Perhaps an 'Alexa-like' sound request to find out speed limits and distances to/from destination or charging stations. Maybe an 'alert' sound when a specific speed is reached. Just some thoughts that I'm sure you all have already pondered.
For purely safety reasons, the speedometer and the driving range indicator need to be directly front of the driver, not on a screen to the side. The screen as it stands is very tacky and looks like a cheap add-on. Instead it should be built into the smooth lines of the dashboard. Rounded, not square, corners of the screen would fit well with the design. Bottom line - the location and design of the screen needs a major update.
Hopefully the hud will be developed to work with various brands of polarized sunglasses. Don't like this latest trend of manufacures like bmw and Mercedes just tacking the screen on the dashboard like an afterthought.
I wish there was a positive.
Bad poll. All 3 choices are negative
