Anyone who thinks dogs are equivalent to human children is completely delusional.
Dogs are animals, we EAT animals, we don't eat human children.

Dogs are not property. If you want to own property buy a damn statue of a dog. Dogs, feel pain, have feelings, need medical care yearly and when they are sick. That is not property. If someone wants to consider their dog their child so be it. WHO CARES. Shouldn't the courts be worried about other things. Maybe how to prevent animal abuse and how to punish those that abuse animals. This is a waste of tax payers dollars. For me, my dogs are my family my babies with fur and walk on all fours.

Family house hold Pets should be dealt with under family law and treated as members of family not property laws. They should have its own section of law not as strong as children but not just as property. They are a special place in families and deserve a special section of family law to deal with the issue of custody of pets.

I love my dog to pieces (13 year old toy poodle) and to anyone who asks, he is my best friend. I treat him like he was my child. However, to the face of the legal system I don't think dogs should be considered children. As others have stated, I don't believe they should be considered property either. There needs to be some sort of middle ground, I think.

Dogs aren't people. People that equate digs with human beings are delusional.

As a HUGE animal lover & owner all my life, I can still so that legally no, pets aren't children. However they are FAR more than property & the law needs to come up wiht a way of recognizing that. They certainly are part of the family & I don't see anything wrong with calling them your children (moms need to relax & not take offense to this). To people who don't have kids, pets are their kids. But I do see how legally they wouldn't be considered that but as I said, they should be legally considered more than property.
