I am completely disgusted by the Trump ban, but I don't think that it's a good idea to express that disgust by doing something that hurts my colleagues in philosophy, especially my most vulnerable ones. Young philosophers launch their careers by attending and presenting at the APA and it's important that they have an audience and an opportunity to meet and talk to other philosophers. I oppose taking a symbolic stand at their expense. Indeed, among those who attend the APA are philosophers with backgrounds that are being targeted by Trump, or may be targeted by him in the future. Just imagine one of them facing an empty room when they come to present a paper they've worked hard on and have had refereed. I want that room filled to the rafters.
