True wireless era has yet to come because so far all the wireless products still require chargers and cables in order to be charged. Without them wireless products are useless when their battery are flat. Apple has already selling their Watch Series 1, AirPods and even the 4th Gen Apple TV without a charger. Shame on you Apple because all the products are being sold at the price of over £100. One day your loyal customers will start feeling they've had enough of you.

Including anything beyond the headphone adapter is ludicrous. Yes, a USB-c to USB-a should come with the MacBook, but including one with the phone is just stupid.
Apple could even drop the headphone adapter by offering a "go wireless" iPhone AirPods bundle that reduces the cost of the AirPods to $99 when purchased with a phone.

Cables and adaptors break gradually as we use them. Also when we move on our old apple products new owners will appreciate that we include those accessories. Hence it is only right for apple to continue including chargers, cables and adaptors. When apple have stopped shipping those accessories you will have a decision to make when you move on your old devices. Imagine someone sells you an used apple product without any accessories, will you be happy that you have to invest on a charger, cable or even an adaptor before you can use this device? Common sense.

Think about the landfill. Of ALL the iPhone customers, how many extraneous dongles will NEVER BE USED? Make the extra bits a la carte purchases for everybody. Only include the things that are absolutely necessary for minimum functionality.

After the bellyaching and heartburn removing the audio jack caused, NOT including the adapter would be the end. Finally. Doom. I'm kidding, but there'd be more talk about how Apple doesn't care about the customer. . . maybe let's give it a year or so before switching to USB-C and then include the adapter and then maybe by 2020, it'll be time. But it's too soon and with customers filing class action lawsuits at the drop of a hat over silly things, this will be next. Just IMHO.
Not exactly the same thing, but illustrates my point. Today my Uber driver was using an iPhone 4 to follow Uber suggested route. He had trouble viewing the screen (iPhone was dash mounted for handsfree operation). Uber's map was updating slower than we were traveling (on city streets) because the iPhone 4 is a 3G device.
All the attention he was giving his iPhone scared me to death, because he wasn't paying as much attention to the road as I would have liked.
Wireless keyborads, wireless mice. Wireless ethernet, wireless remotes, wireless charging, wireless headsets, wireless earbuds. The time will come, sooner than we think, that mobile devices will ALL connect, sync, whatever, with other devices wirelessly. Discussions about Apple providing adapters is a huge step backward. If your device doesn't support Bluetooth 4.0 then you've held onto it waaaaay to long. It's time to upgrade your dinosaurs. If you find that objectionable then YOU buy the adapter.

Better yet, keep the adapter and include AirPods in the box. That pushes the industry forward into wireless.

If they don't put adapters in the box, I will switch to Samsung in a fit of rage.

You left out how long to include adapters. I thing most people upgrade about every 2 years on average. So including cables on any connector for a minimum 2 years should be adequate. After that, it is time for consumers to catch up.
