I would go with Christian Ponder with Gabbert as backup and look to draft for a rookie QB in the 4th round or later. The problem with Kaepernick is that his delivery is slow (takes too long to wind up and throw the ball), he does not have the ability (quickness, elusiveness) to escape the pass rush, he is not accurate (inconsistent at best) and has not learned the subtleties of placing the ball advantageous to the receiver on his long passes.

Anyone but Kapernick.

Look at all the qbs that are available and clearly the best short term option is Kaep. The question is who should start next year. any rookie drafted either with the 2nd pick or later would not be ready to start on a team that needs so much. The rookie would struggle and wouldn't help in his development. Guys like Cousins and Romo would cost too much. Even if the niner could get Cousins with two 2nd round pick (this year and next) that would mean Niner would have to give Cousins a massive contract of like 20 mil a year. Why would you want to take that risk when he only been a starter for a few years. it cost too much to get him. Lets be realistic, Niners are not making the playoffs next year. Have Kaep start and groom a rookie QB with hopefully a later round pick and not the 2nd pick in the draft. Niners have too many holes to use the 2nd pick on a QB this year.

I agree with Wolf...please do NOT go with Jay Cutler. The only thing he is "accomplished" at is getting hurt and whining! If the 49ers sign Cutler I become a Raiders fan that day!

Lets not all fall for Garoppolo just because he looked average when Brady was out. How many Brady backups have succeeded in the NFL? None! He is not worth giving away a 1st or even 2nd round pick for. If we cant get Kirk Cousins then we should turn to Mike Glennon as a bridge, who would not cost us any draft picks. Reuben Foster in 1st round please. A 3rd or 4th round QB would be fine.

glennon is a very intriguing option. he looked pretty impressive as a rookie/2nd year guy and had some nice tools. what happened to him??

Hahaha - to funny. Seriously, get someone who can truly handle this system. Garoppolo or cousins could be a good fit. PASS RUSHER PLEASE with the 1st pick!!! We need to make qb's scared again. We don't have Justin smith (who was a BEAST!) anymore. I miss that guy! Address pass rush and since lynch comes from a Defensive mind and background, they will take that pass rusher first pick. I don't know how they'll figure out qb situation but it couldn't be worse (KNOCK ON WOOD) than past 2 years.
Forever a 9er faithful, bad and good

Jamarcus Russell is available.
