Would you or have you changed banks for Apple Pay?

My banks already worked with it when I got an ApplePay-enabled phone, so I didn't have to think about this question. But I have changed which stores I shop at based on whether they accept ApplePay or not. I have worked in IT Security and have zero concerns or conflicts about using ApplePay as a means of secure payment.

I didn't switch but when I was switching for other reasons it was imperative that the bank have support for it.

I'd move in a heartbeat but ts tricky to do so in Australia. Our big four banks are holding out (they want access to the ApplePay tech within the phone so they can offer there own rebadged service creating options within the Australian market - a complete nightmare) and a final ACCC decision is being handed down in March 2017. My hope is that they will fail and have to adopt it - as soon as that happens all remaining banks will adopt it and it will become ubiquitous within the Australian banking sector. If not, I'll have to start the slow, painful and costly process of moving all of my banking across to ANZ.

I switched banks in Australia from Westpac for savings and NAB for Home Loam to ANZ for everything for access to Apple Pay and I couldn't not be happier. Use it multiple times per day! One of my favourite features

I sincerely would cause most of the banks offer the same service (ancient) and costs but not all the latest fruity and simple tech people really are dying to use as Apple Pay!

Just linked to a Citi (or Chase, or whatever) airline credit card I have. No problem and I get the miles.

All of my banks/credit cards work with Apple Pay. I rarely use it, as I am in the habit of using my card most of the time. The only place I tend to use Apple Pay is at the pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS. Don't get me wrong, Apple Pay is a wonderful feature, I just don't use it all that much.

I actually did a variation of this. I was with a bank that had Apple Pay but had been thinking of switching to our local credit union for a variety of other reasons. But they didn't have Apple Pay so I chose to stay put for now.

I'm in Aussie and got an Amex card as my primary credit card as they support Apple Pay I cancelled my existing primary card with NAB bank due to lack of Apple Pay. I also advised NAB my reason for cancelling my card was lack of Apple Pay. Hopefully the big 3 bank holdouts will come on board soon enough if they get enough disgruntled customers.

I opened an additional current account with a different bank to have the facility , and a couple of my credit cards supported it quickly so I switched to using them more frequently fir the smaller payments .
Very quick and completely reliable . Well done apple !

I'm a big apple fan in the Netherlands where there is still no apple pay. If it doesn't come quickly, i think i will need to switch to Android. Local banks work together with telco operators and now have solutions with nfc enabled sim cards, working on Android. So you get a payment solution from your local bank, tailered to the local needs.

I switched from Barclays to NatWest back when Apple Pay launch (Barclays had no intention of getting it then). I had no reason to stay with Barclays they hadn't given particularly great service to me either. I'd be interest to see how many people are switching for the quality/Touch ID support of banking apps

I think it's kind of different for me. My bank supported it right away, but I was still hesitant to sign up for it. I was scared it wouldn't work and there is nothing more embarrassing than having your payment declined or not being able to work properly. I finally decided to try it because my bank offered it and I was able to try it out on a vending machine when no one else was around. Now it is my preferred payment method. TLDR; I wouldn't have changed banks for apple pay specifically without being able to try it first.

Fortunately my credit union and bank I use for my rental property supported Pay right away. My long time pharmacy didn't, I switched because they didn't and wouldn't. There are others that are losing my business because they don't support Pay.

I'm also switching the car I was going to buy to one that supports CarPlay. They think their antiquated way of connectivity and features is better. And they aren't supporting AndroidPlay either. Just plain stupid.

Yes, there are aftermarket units, but so many cars have everything going through the "infotainment" system now that it's nearly impossible to swap out head units or other components needed to support CarPlay or AndroidPlay

Banks pay me virtually no interest on savings, charge me fees every chance they get. Clearly they don't value customers. Why should a customer stay loyal to them? I switched to a credit union for better service and my credit union supports Apple Pay. I'm happy.

Just before ApplePay came out I switched banks because my old bank wouldn't connect with quicken, new bank picked up ApplePay quick, two birds.

My bank is featured in the article photo.

I only use credit unions, partly for ethical reasons and partly because they tend to have fewer/lower fees and better fringe perks. That somewhat limits my options, at least if I want to be able to visit a local branch office at my convenience.

If I were opening a new account and debating between two institutions, Apple Pay availability might be a secondary (or even tertiary) deciding factor, after fees and benefits and account terms and how the institution is managed/invested. But it's not a strong motivating factor.

Really, I'd be much more interested in seeing things like discount cards and other account cards (e.g., commuter passes) added to Apple Pay. That way I wouldn't have to carry around my gym pass and my bus pass and half a dozen other things.

But as for banks--there's really no reason to bank with a bank, unless you do a lot of traveling and really need access to branch offices on a regular basis. And most of the major banks are actively invested in some pretty nasty, predatory stuff.

    In short, #noDAPL.

If a bank doesn't support ApplePay, then they probably don't have the best banking experience to begin with. True Story... I left HSBC years ago because they didn't care to make an iPhone app.

Luckily since the Square Cash app has implemented Apple Pay, I don't have to, but I was literally prepared to switch banks JUST to have Apple Pay support. Now I just transfer funds to the virtual card and have the virtual card added to Apple Pay on my phone....so my bank is saved...this time...

Since one can always choose to use any credit card (and I also have Apple's Barclay card that I use for Apple purchases), a change in your bank shouldn't ever be necessary to use Apple Pay.

  • Vastidious - 7 years ago

We moved and I chose my new bank based on ApplePay.

  • gz - 7 years ago

My banks/cards were good for ApplePay already, no need to switch.

  • Louie - 7 years ago

both my credit cards support it so I didn't have to think about swathing banks

  • Benjamin Lupton - 7 years ago

    Already have changed banks!
