I'm outraged! City Council, if it was a joke before, it certainly is now! A joke that is now longer funny!
This is a blatant violation of separation of church and state. I will be filing a complaint shortly.
Forcing councillors to sit through a prayer at a secular council meeting is intentionally divisive and harmful in a number of obvious ways. How selfish of those councillors who voted for this. If God is all powerful then surely she can hear a silent prayer made before the meeting. A moment of silence is also an obvious waste of time. Councils need to act impartially to be credible. How pathetic.

America may have been founded on Christian principles, a debatable point, but it was not founded on the Bible, and the Constitution is very clear that religion has no place in State affairs.
Those of you in favor of prayer - are you willing to allow prayers of other religions? Other venues sometimes permit prayer as long as it rotates weekly/monthly/etc among Buddhists, Muslims, Jains, Hindus, Catholics, Protestants, Baha'i, and others - all equally.
Or must everyone pray to your god?
Over seven years ago, I spoke before council asking it to replace prayer with moments of silence. I did so by reminding members of the unconstitutionality of prayer as the use violated the intent of the establishment clause of our constitution's first amendment (separation of church/state doctrine). Here we go again?
God isn't real
That's the problem. Removing prayer from everything. America was founded on Christian principles so who doesn't want to pray then they an remain silent. Why should this practice change when it has been in place prior to this session. That you to the council members that will boldly stand up for what is right. You are true leaders and with that mindset and courage you can turn the city around. More prayers are needed for the city

God has been taken out of everything! And see how the world is.... a Mess lets all be a example for God to do what he obeys us to do love thy neighbor!!!
More than most places, prayer is an essential part of what should be taking place in these meetings where thoughtful, common sense decisions are all to IN-frequent!
