I agonized over this one, but in the end, Anne had to win. (I see I'm in the minority!) She stood up to bullying at the risk of punishment. She learned the power of the written word at a young age. She didn't let the first miserable decade of her life define her. She pushed for a spectacular education, a degree, a profession. She braved some really awkward encounters to genuinely connect with people and make friends across generations, social spheres, genders. She didn't close the door on friendship after finding her one true bosom friend. She loved her students...most of them, at least. She was comfortable as an academic, a working woman, and a stay-at-home mother. She had the grace to give people second chances. She never lost sight of the broad romance of an even broader world. She imagined. She had the sense to let a mischievous young man mature a little before making a final decision about him. She cried over poetry and kissed birch trees. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.
