The category of American was very broad. I like pimento cheese but not New England clam chowder.
We choose restaurants based on how much we like they're chips & salsa. No chips & salsa? Not eating there.

Nothing makes me happier than a good curry. Chicken Tikka Masala over jasmine rice is my idea of heaven in a bowl.
I voted American, because I like variety. And, most American Restaurants offer a variety. Sometimes I like Mexican, sometimes Italian, sometimes Asian.
No one has a love affair with food like the Italians ... avoid restaurants where they butcher the language. If they can't pronounce it properly, how good can it be? It's not "ball-sam-ick" it's "ball-sahm-ick." It's not
"min-is-stro-nee" it's "min-es-stron-eh" ... it's a short "e." Same with provelone. Bruschetta? "Ch" is pronounced like a "k." I won't even bother with gnocchi ... and "Eye-talian" ? ... Mama Mia!! Deceased Italians everywhere are turning over in their graves!!
I love Greek and Middle Eastern and my own Southern cooking. Not fond of Mexican. Love most anything I don't have to cook.
I could have voted for American because essentially Canadian cuisine is pretty similar. At the little restaurant in our Village they call it "Western" (as opposed to the Pizza and other "Italian" dishes they serve.

We live in a small town in a rural area, and there are not many choices as to where to eat. When we do eat out, we try all cuisines - I just don't like anything that is tooo spicy.

Mexican is my fave, but there is also a local pizza place that I truly love and would never pass up!
Its really a toss up between Italian & Mexican dishes that I love.
I too wish we could have chosen more than one...Love my Mexican food, but must also have Chinese (actually Thai or Szechuan) on a regular basis--love spicy! Missing my Greek from when my Greek neighbors invited me over all the time...wish they were closer than two states away now!

I wish there would have been a choice of all of the above. I don't have one favorite type of restaurant, I can go to any one of them and have a good meal.
