Truckload rates after the ELD mandate: What's your view of any positive/negative rates effect?

Stephen Tracy has summed it up very well. In larger companies ELD's are already being used in most cases and the drivers have been the losers. As the rule is imposed the next group to lose will be the owner operators and a few small fleets some of which pay by the hour. The larger companies have actually been pushing for this mandate because they find any cost to themselves worth being able to track trucks and drivers some even using the system to micro manage drivers, so they find the expense to smaller competitors that receive no advantages as another way to discourage or eliminate competition. Thinking rates will raise especially on a long term basis is a pipe dream. Drivers and owner operators and those owning 5 or fewer trucks will EAT the added cost. Most larger companies would be using them even if not mandated at the expense of the drivers.

To impose elogs retroactively by 15 years is illegal, see US CONSTITUTION ARTICLE ONE, SECTION NINE,CLAUSE THREE. Ex post facto laws are forbidden. Wake up people.

Rate will have to go up or we will all be going out of business. That would be brokers, independent drivers and our customers. We will be losing days each month, due to the 14 hour rule, places you go will need to change, CA is almost out of the question. And the learning curve of this is going to over the top for most independent drivers. But, it is really hard to say what is going to happen with rates.

It wont matter what happens either way to me except as a consumer if they go up because as of July Im getting out of the govermemt bullshit regulation game. They can shove it.

Once the shippers and receivers figure out what's going on, it'll hit the fan and I really don't think it will even go through.

The rates have to go up it will take couple days longer to go across the country and where do they plan on parking all the truck when u run out of hours by eld? Hard to find places to park now in the city's. Wish these law makes would get in my truck for a trip might open there eyes to quit making all these stupid laws! Easy to set behind a desk and tell others how to do things when u don't know how yourself! If they would quit bringing in these worthless drivers they wouldn't have the issues out there!!!

To many drivers have there head in the sand. These bigger companies are all ready showing what they will be doing. Going to make drivers there slaves. They are already changing there LED to make the deliveries on time. Rates won't change and drivers will make less. Drivers need to wake up and start doing something about it. Unless they want to be a slave.
