The sooner the better....he's run his course. He is terrible in clutch situations. Respectable average and home run totals as long as no one is on base and it's been that way for years. Put runners in scoring position and it's a strikeout or pop-up. He's a weakling when it comes to aches and pains so I assume that when the PED'S went away, so did his toughness. Good riddance. Get something for him while you still can.
From the perspective of the future, the Brewers need more prospects. I'm not nearly as impressed by what's in the farm system as some are, especially when it comes to starting pitching.
From the perspective of the major league club, Braun can still produce when he's healthy--but that's the problem. Braun is spending more and more time out of the lineup with injuries, and that's only going to get worse in the future. He's a player on the decline, and the Brewers should sell high.
And from the perspective of a follower of the club since the late 80s...every winning season the Brewers have had since 1992 has a big fat asterisk next to it, thanks to this guy. He might be clean now. He might not be. But as long as he's on the roster, every team accomplishment is automatically suspect. The sooner he's someone else's problem, the better.
Forget the PED issue. Ryan has served the punishment. I would be more concerned about the continuos nagging injuries. He has proven he can play ball without the help of peds. The criteria should be, if the Brewers can get more help than what Ryan produces. After all he is by far the best player the Brewers have.
He also has been s benefactor in the community. I would hate to see him go.
For me, and this being a Christian Sunday, I wish I could get over that he's still lyin' Braun to me. He plays at a almost MVP level, and it would be almost impossible to get equal value, and i wish i could 'forgive and forget.' However, to me, his bs was so egregious , i believe a change a scenery would be best. I would wish him well, but don't let the door hit ya.
Think he is good for team however if front line pitching where in the talk as brewers seem to be able to trade for position players and pitching is god awful as sterns has traded away the bullpen and now very weak and starting rotation most would not be a starter on many major league teams pitching staff a joke.
Braun likes it in Milwaukee, he is active in the community, his contract isn't outrageous considering he is still producing at a high level, and the Brewers will never get fair trade value in return - yes, because of the PED issue.
I was outraged when Paulie was allowed to walk as free agent; I cried when Gorman got traded. What would Yount's legacy have been if he had been traded for prospects before his age 33 season (when he won his 2nd MVP)? Would he still have a statue outside of Miller Park?
As one of the top 3 or 4 Brewers of all time, because of his PED issue, Braun is worth far more to the Brewers than to any other ballclub. If he wants to stay, he has earned that right IMHO. And as he is still producing at a MVP level, there is no sense in throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
Braun is nothing more than a liar. I'm not a fan of liars.
