Do you agree with school dress codes that require fingertip-length skirts/shorts and ban tops with spaghetti straps?

I think it's Terrible, how some young girls dress, yet they still want respect. How could a man respect a girl dressing like that

I cant believe some of the views these supposedly sound parents have. An occasional bras strap showing is not a violation of the dress code. However when the shirt or top has no possible way of covering the bra strap even mostly, then that is a violation and just as bad as when boys where their pants down far enough that you can read the brand of underwear (or lack there of) or see even worse. The parent that thought the idea of covering bra straps was "shaming" girls about their bodies needs to feel the same way if their son is told to pull his pants up to cover his underwear. Seriously people get your head out. Yes the "THOT" was definitely not the best choice of phrase but like wise, when a young lady wears shorts that are so short or torn that it leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination (and when boys wear pants or shorts so tight that it leaves nothing to the imagination, then both are guilty of dressing like the proverbial street walkers you see in big cities. Parents teach your children (both boys and girls) to respect themselves and their piers. I congratulate the principle in the school for a brilliant and totally understanding way of handling the situation.

I think before we can imply dress codes for the students we need to have some for the teachers!! I have seen way to many times inappropriate dress from female teachers that are suppose to be making an example for the children!! So before we expect the children to look respectful we have to teach our teachers to look respectful.

As a mother of 3 boys and 1 daughter. I can say I have the view of both sides. What schools are telling us is that it is the girls fault ( why blame the girl ) Blame the parent that has not raised their boys to RESPECT!!! the females in class. Seeing a girls bra strap ( SO WHAT ) Its teaching our girls to be ashamed of who they are. If boys are that easily distracted then maybe they should attend an all boys school. As long as there is no vulgar sayings or images, no gang related clothing. All Im saying is the parents need to step up and teach our boys respect.

I am also very tired of everyone demanding their "rights" but so few who actually want to be responsible for anything. We all get to make our choices but we don't get to choose the consequences of those choices.

Young people nowadays do not seem to understand that men and women (boys and girls) are wired differently. Men are aroused by what they see, women by how they feel. Schools should be teaching students to respect one another based on this fact and both sexes should be expected to dress appropriately. Coming across as super sexy does not increase respect from the opposite sex. Woman's Lib has not actually done anything positive for either of the sexes. Men no longer know how to treat women properly and women think they need to be sexy to be accepted. Today they have older men coming into the schools to teach the young men not to abuse women, something that should have been taught at home from an early age. As a woman I find it embarrassing to see women with their cleavage showing and wonder why they think it is necessary.

This just says 'when you're raped, it's your fault because of your clothing.'

    It doesn't 'say' anything else.

honestly, if a girl has the confifence to wear something other than a sweater and jeans or even a t-shirt and leggings. then let them Express themself. it's to the boys mind if they find a shirt that is only one finger or two wide, so distrating? what is it about a shoulder or a bra strap that distracts there mind, we are not sextohs. Also it's not a big shocker that girls wear bras, so what's the matter if you see the strap? boys sag there pants so you see there boxers. yet it's not distracting to the female mind if we see there breifs. Nowadays it's hard to find a pair of shorts that goes down to your finger tips or a cute sundress that is 3 fingers wide and long enough. I believe if my boobs or my ass are not hanging out, it's alright.

This issue comes up every year at my children's schools. Personally, I think that girls should be allowed to wear what they want unless there is a uniform policy in place. Imo, this school is making excuses for males. If you want a dress code then put one in place but do not do it in a way that could make girls feel self conscious and /or guilty about the way they choose to dress. As for the guys-life is full of temptations. Schools shouldn't be catering to them at the expense of the girls. Many males are quite capable of ignoring or controlling their urges-to suggest they can not is insulting. Bottom line is that both sexes need to be aware of the rules (dress code) and the consequences of making poor choices. To me, this is black and white. There's no need to appeal to the emotions of either sex with regard to dress codes. On a personal note, my husband received a phone call from the school when our youngest was in grade 1. I dressed her in a knee length floral print sundress that her grandmother had made for her. The problem was that the straps were only one finger wide and the school has a three finger rule. Can't say I was pleased when my husband had to leave work to bring her a change of clothes and nor did I feel that the rule should apply to primary students But as I tell my kids...A rule is a rule. If you don't follow the rules, the consequences will follow you.

Seriously messed up/misworded poll--do you mean for boys or girls or both? Good grief and shame on you for posting such a misleading "poll". :P

Poorly worded question, even confusing to some.

Dress codes are the norm in most work environments. Rarely are employees allowed to wear whatever they want, subject to professionalism and safety If you dress like you want to be outside sunning in the park then go to the park.
