I think hedging your bets is always your best bet. I think a quirky first name with a traditional middle or a traditional first with a quirky middle is the safest naming combo. My son's name for example is Isaac Racy. As a child he was always called Racy but as a middle aged man he has gone by Isaac since he was in High School. (Racy, BTW, was my mother's maiden name.)
