Should rent control be adopted to limit rent increases?

We seniors who are living on Social Security are being forced out of our apartments. After paying rent and utilities there is very little money left for groceries, gas, medical prescriptions and the daily expenses of living. The Social Security increases annually are ridiculous. I have worked for over 45 years and have paid "my way" to live a decent life for however many years I have left. Yet there is always money available to build some "magnificent" structure to house a sports or entertainment venue. If you look online for low income senior housing the wait lists are in excess of 2-3 years and some of the wait lists have been shut down. Why should seniors become impoverished citizens when we have paid our dues. A $100 monthly increase in rent can make a difference between being a renter or a homeless person. The cost of living in the state of California is outrageous for anyone who lives here.
