Running briefs are more comfortable to wear, and are better for performance. Serious running athletes today want to wear briefs. If you look at modern fashion, you'll see that it's normal for women to wear things like leggings, short shorts, and cheeky bikinis. Our culture has progressed and no longer accepts the idea that women must cover their legs and bums. A ban on running briefs would be backward and out of touch with reality.
If you ban brief bottoms then you need to ban girls wearing spandex at school. Not much difference.
Sexualizing of these athletes occurs only in the minds of the observers. These young women are beautiful strong and competitive athletes with only one thing on their minds; competing. For observers to put titilation and provocation on their appearance is a reflection of said observer's own issues. If you are so impacted by the appearance of strong young women that you can only think of sex, perhaps you should not be present at the meet.
Never would've thought of this as an issue. Comfort should be the watchword.

There should be a choice for student athletes to wear WHAT IS COMFORTABLE to COMPETE in!
I am all for choice. My daughter's physique is closer to a sprinters and so she'd be horrified and extremely uncomfortable if she had to run in those bikini briefs.

The athletes should decide what they are most comfortable wearing during competition. I'm sure the spectators would rather keep their choice for attire as well. The free market wins this one in my book.
When I took over as head track coach I also thought the female bottoms were a bit too short and revealing. I did however confer with my female assistant (and former college heptathlete), and other female coaches in my area. The bottom line for everyone I spoke to was race comfort for the athlete. The last thing any coach wants from their competitor (boy or girl) is to be preoccupied with uniform issues before the event or to have a problem during!
I can see where she's coming from, but the truth is that they are just more comfortable to race in. I don't think anyone should be forced to wear them, but the option of a few choices could also be made available.
Ban-NO, Multiple Options to choose from-YES
In this area the rules should be gender neutral: ban for one, ban for all. At one local high school a majority of kids are so insecure, the athletes were given a choice and one Muslim girl chose the more conservative option while everyone else didn't want to be seen as prudish so they all chose the more "showy" option even though it made some of them uncomfortable. Maybe a coaching opportunity missed in this situation but let's be real about negative peer pressure.

There are people starving in 3rd world countries, victims of recent natural disasters, and many other things needing to be fixed in the world..... and she wants to put her time and effort into spandex #firstworldproblems
