It was good old fashioned football that I was raised on. Rivalry is good and entertaining, at this point they know what they signed up for.

Here we go. It has been widely proposed that competitive sports are a ritualized form of purging violent emotions that are a fundamental part of human nature both for participants and spectators. From the kickoff, this game felt like like the Istanbul derby with its historical rivalry and high stakes. Poor officiating seemed to amplify the anger of fans and players and each subsequent act of brutality led to the next. I love football but was, yes, nauseated by the outcome. As a scientist, i should resist the urge to speculate that the mood of hatred and anger in the US in some way contributed but I refuse to accept what we witnessed last night as normal. Good old AFC North football? Thanks Dr. Ben. Antonio Brown, with his typical unreflective self-regard barked out the word "Karma" to reveal that he thought Burfict deserved to be headhunted. Immunity to irony is the moral equivalent of learning nothing from history, so what will the future hold for the Steelers? Something I'm sure they earned last night.

The hit on Antonio Brown was dirty because it was retaliation for the Burfict hit...the head shots should be punished because the of the long term affects we now know they have.

Come on. Disturbing? Yes, the play where Shazier was disturbing, certainly. But aside from that, the game was entertaining. We complain when players don't hustle/play hard, then we complain when they blow someone up. Schuster shouldn't have stood over Berfect, no. But how many questionable hits has Berfect had again? People need to put on their Tuff-Skins and try to not get emotional or nauseated when these guys do what they are coached to do.
