Go to 8 Conference games like the SEC. Don't let Washington or Stanford ever play USC or UCLA in the regular season like the SEC with Georgia and Alabama. Play one strong non conference game and let the chips fall where they may. All Power 5 conferences need to schedule similarly in order for every conference to be treated fairly.
And Elite teams are ALWAYS better for any Conference especially for the PAC 12 right now

I don’t understand he logic of the question. For the “let’s make he middle worse(?)” so USC wins every year is silly. Every school and program is going to be trying to be their best and if everybody is good enough to beat each other so be it. PAC-12 football is fun to be a fan of no matter what technicalities get teams from anywhere in/out of the playoff.
I guess I’m reminded of Herm Edwards, “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!” How do you explain to the “middle” you don’t get a chance. They are going to compete.
If PAC-12 would be power programs want to win a NC- SCHEDULE BIG GAMES.
Play 2 games vs power 5 and 1 group of 5 (no FCS schools) every year and be willing to play on the road. Everybody should be talking about their schedule not this silly question.

I'm sure the folks voting for the elite teams preferences probably hail from 4-5 schools who believe their school would benefit from such a scheme.
