Have you swapped out your iPhone battery?

When I first got my 6s two years ago, the battery lasted two days. After two years, the battery longevity fell to about 1 day.

Last week I got my battery changed at Apple, but it still lasts only 1 day.

Plus it hasn't made it any faster (not that it was particularly slow before).

    Still using iOS 10.3.3.

I made an appt. at the Genius Bar through the Apple website page for battery replacement, waited a week for the appt., waited nearly an hour for my appt. the day of only to find out they do not have batteries for iphone6. (couldn’t they have said this before I wasted so much time?) I’m on day 11 waiting to get the battery that I had to order. My phone drains in minutes and will just shut off even when the phone shows a charge as high as 59%. I literally have to keep it plugged in 24/7. In addition it takes forever to open any app, website, take a photo, send a text, etc. I really hope these batteries show up soon.

Apple greedily and intentionally sabotaged its product. Alienated its customer base and destroyed its reputation overnight. Since I don’t have $1000 laying around, I begrudgingly opted for the $29 battery replacement. I waited two weeks for an appointment to be told there were no batteries available. That was three weeks ago. No idea if or when the battery will be replaced or if it will even fix the problem. My phone is unusable unless tethered to an outlet. Shutdowns occur at 80% battery life. I will be replacing every Apple product I own with their competitors and will never do business with them again.

Apple is rotten to the core on this one. A display of customer disloyalty and extremely poor customer service. I am very disappointed in how they have manufactured and handled the battery problem. The tech support people set expectations they cannot fulfill, the wait times on the phone are terrible and people have products they cannot use as intended and paying for service they can't implement for their usage.
Justice may prevail. Customers, like me, may wise up and take our business elsewhere.

I did have it replace but the battery life is just the same. It drains fast!!

My husband and I both paid $79+ months ago to replace our batteries on our phones. Performance has not improved. Called to see how we can speed up our phone and we were told to replace our batteries AGAIN at $29. They said it is a crapshoot if the local store will grant us any "discount" because we already paid to replace our batteries at full price. Also, downloaded battery life app and showing my batteries is at 91% with only a few months of use. We have been waiting weeks for our second round of batteries to show up at the Apple Store so we can pay AGAIN to replace our batteries a second time.

It affects iPad Min 2 also but no official statement from Apple regarding iPads.

I have waiting over two weeks after my initial appointment only to get a call today telling me that they don’t expect to get replacement batteries until the end of March for my 6 plus. 12 weeks?!? Is Apple just hoping we forget this ever happened?

  • Scott - 7 years ago

I went through the steps on Apple.com, only to arrive for my appointment 2weeks later to be told that they are out of batteries and basically told I was SOL and to try again at a later time. I’ll be changing it myself and probably motbourchasin another IPhone:

Replaced my wife's iPhone 6 battery just before Apple's announcement, since an Apple employee said it might help with performance. It did! Big time. Thanks also to Apple for giving me a credit for getting the work done a week before they announced their new program. My 6s Plus has been showing signs of battery fatigue and I plan on having it replaced some time in the next few months.

  • Justin - 7 years ago

I had my battery replaced at Office Depot for $28. It did NOT stop the phone throttling the processor. The processor on my 6S+ is supposed to run at 1.8GHz. It runs at 1.2GHz at 100% charge and it get's slower and slower as the battery % drops even after the battery swap.

  • Andrew - 7 years ago

My iPhone 6 was having Turn By Turn GPS problem. Compass worked. GPS worked. Turn by turn would be off by half a mile when it would work at all (in the Maps app / Google Maps / Waze).

Full OS Restore to stock didn't solve it (Even prior to reloading my profile on to it). Once the new battery was in, T-by-T worked just fine.

I did a self-replace because I had ordered it before the battery program was announced and I am comfortable doing that on my own.

My iPhone battery is very disaster situation charge will go like water flow I complaint many times about the battery perfomance like this situation who will buy iPhone

I think it’s really lousy that I cannot get a new battery for my iPhone 5S. It’s absolutely pristine, but since the updates it will not hold a charge for anything! Thank goodness there are companies like iFixit that supply batteries and tools (and I have a handy boyfriend!) that will remedy what a company I used to respect won’t do. I was going to get an iMac this year, but nope - Apple has lost my business.

  • Ryo - 7 years ago

My 6S battery is usable, but suddenly shuts down at 35% in very cold weather. I plan on using this phone for as long as possible, like Rob I plan on getting my battery replaced in November to get the most out of my phone and battery.

I had my iPhone SE tested and they said it had only 8% wear on the battery , the phone is 1.5 years old but even though the battery was still good and giving out the correct voltage the phone was slowed by the built in throttle included in iOS 10.1.2 and above . I realised it does not go on the battery it's self , it just kicks in when the battery has been in the phone over a year which is such b/s from Apple since they did themselves say the battery was still good , the only option to get performance back was to get a new battery but they told me 5 weeks I said no thanks and walked out , ordered my own battery online from ifixit , installed it my self in 10 minutes and it's working like new with all the performance of a new iPhone , but the point is that the throttling software shouldn't just go on the age of the battery it should actually go on the battery wear and voltage because they are making people change the battery for no reason other than its past a year old

Took my wife's phone in, they tested it and said the battery was wore out, told me it'll take 2-3 weeks for the battery to be in and if have to bring it back. I told them that was fine and let us know when it'll be in, the genius guy took the phone and said he'd need to inspect it, after carefully looking at it, he says the frame looks slightly bent and that prevents them from replacing the battery. What a surprise, but told me for $299.00 they could do a swap and replace the phone, no thanks I left and went down the hall to a fix it store, asked them if the battery could be replaced, they said they could for $49.00, I told them that Apple wouldn't because the frame was slightly bent and they said no big deal if it was and Apple usually won't if it even had scratch. Apple support sucks!!!! Had them them the battery, best $49.00 I spent. Apple can suck it!!!

  • Barb - 7 years ago

I thought it was my iPhone going bad and the carrier getting slower so I traded in my IPhone and changed carriers before the actual truth came out!!! After remembering back now the website said they would give me one price for trade in but the actual store said no and offered only $125.00 for my phone 64Gb no scratches!! Just all of a sudden going slow! I think they knew and I kind feel like we got ripped off!

  • Sean - 7 years ago

I had an appointment to get my battery changed at the Apple Store. When they tested the battery, it said it was 95% good. They also said parts would take 2 weeks and require another trip. Their assessment was a new battery wouldn't help with performance but a re-install might. I did the reinstall at home and performance did improve.

  • James - 7 years ago

It's not the battery, it's the processor in the phone. It can't keep up with the demands of the updates. Best suggestion, go Android.

  • David - 7 years ago

What gets me is all the outrage over the replacements while the people who were truly scammed - those who bought a new phone - are completely overlooked. I would gladly have to wait a while for a $29 battery if I had known it was an option, but I traded in my iPhone 6 due to poor performance about 2 weeks before the truth came out.

I am upset & angry. I called and made a reservation at my nearestApplec store. Went to store, waited for 35 minutes past my appointment time, was told after the tech rep went through the motions and was told SORRY, there are no batteries in stock. What a shabby way to do things. Being out of stock is understandable, but they knew I was coming (and the time), and I think it was outrageous they didn’t try to reach me before I made the
trip. My tech rep prepared the authorization for my battery and told me I would be contacted and given an appointment when batteries were
in stock. That was 10 days ago. I realize this problem has created a horrendous demand (including a shortage of batteries), but consider
Apple’s response to be inept, poorly planned and badly managed.

My 6s didn't have any battery issues. Battery test came out with 110mAh lower than the fresh new battery capacity which is not even 5% lower than the new capacity. Just to escape the legal issues in slowing down the phone, Apple bullshitted the customer's and we are running to stores to give them more bullshit business! Feel like crap myself and walked out of the store. The store couldn't respond to my questions. Now I realize none of the Apple customer's ask any questions to Apple and just blindly going by what they keep bullshitting. What a scam. No more iShits. Apple must be banned.

I replaced the battery in my 6s+ about 6 months ago. It cost me $50.00 at Batteries+Bulbs. It was like having a new phone until the latest battery draining updates to iOS. Performance was never an issue, it was just that the battery was down to about 50% of its design capacity. I'm much more concerned about the battery draining issues with the latest updates than I am about any minor throttling.

Found out my iPhone 6S qualifies for the battery recall program. I made an appointment with the closest Apple Store (60 miles away) for 10 days later. I drove over and checked in at the appointed time. Tech came over & ran the required diagnostics before telling me the store didn't have any batteries in stock. They would have to order it, 7-10 days. Well, that was a wasted trip -- 2.5 hours and 120 miles. Then I will have to drive another 120 miles roundtrip to get it fixed? I'm waving the BS flag!

The Apple Store in Richmond knew of my appointment 10 days in advance, they knew my iPhone 6S needed a battery, why didn't they order a battery to have on hand? Don't they realize not everyone lives close to a Store? Why are they forcing customers to make multiple trips to fix a problem? This is a very poor showing by the Apple Store. I will not be driving back down. I will schedule it with a 3rd party vendor in town instead. The reason I committed to driving an hour was I felt the Apple Store had the best techs and that I wouldn't have problems with my phone later on. Angela Ahrendts should be ashamed of this kind of performance.

Waited over an hour on hold w/ Apple Support. Customer Service was very polite. I asked if Apple had batteries in stock(dumb question) They said the did. Got to Apple Store-waited in 1 line-told I was 20 minutes early. Told to look around at all of Apple’s new stuff and in 25 minutes-get in another line. Did so; no seat available at Genius section(are u kidding me?) Seat became available-diagnostic test run-battery passed. I told Genius she couldn’t deny me a replacement battery. She said I was right. A manager came over & spoke w/ my Genius (very softly) “ remember to tell me wait for battery is a month.” They will call me when battery arrives; bring phone in;leave phone there for 2 hours; go shopping and then come back in 2 hours! Between the phone hold and the store wait it was already over 2 hours! Maybe I’ll try Office Depot !

Waited 2 1/2 weeks for an appointment at the nearest Apple Store and, after I made a special trip there just for the battery replacement, they told me that the store was out of stock and that they would order a battery for me and would contact me in about three weeks to have me come in to leave my phone (iPhone 6) for the battery replacement. You’d think that they could have notified meby email, as they had that information from the appointment process, that the store had no replacement batteries in stock and saved me a trip, but no . . . . They still tried to talk me out of it by saying that my battery showed it had 90% power remaining and that it didn’t need to be replaced. Maybe I should check Office Depot, which just announced it would replace iPhone batteries for $28. Getting more and more tired of Apple and their games

Was told by iStore (Cresta, Randburg) that that faulty battery in my 5s iPhone won't be changed, but they will offer me another bloody 5s iPhone for R4,999.00; the same amount current one cost and is due do dumping 13/09/2018. I'm rather dumping iPhone for different make

I think it’s crappy that apple slows our phones an we have to pay to fix them heck they cost enough in the first place

  • Jeff - 7 years ago

Out of stock, supposed to be 2 1/2 weeks until a new battery comes in. I took it in while under warranty and they wouldn’t replace it, they suggested I turn off notifications, auto brightness, etc. All the perks of having an iPhone, they had me turn off. Ugh

  • David - 7 years ago

Apple wait was many many weeks, which was redicoulous considering how poor the phone performance was, so went to
a knock off battery store and my iPhone 6 Plus is SO much faster!

  • Rob - 7 years ago

Took my mom’s 6s Plus to the Apple store, and we were advised to wait after finding her battery is in excellent condition. Since Apple is replacing batteries through 2018, the Genius advised us to wait until the end of the year. That way my mom will get the most life out of her phone. Will be replacing both my parents 6s Plus and 7 Plus sometime around November to ensure their batteries are in stock before the replacement period ends.
