I's simple - 8 hours rest and 16 hours for another one activities.

Put it back the way it used to be

I agree 100% with you Chuck. That's the way it should be. Get rid of the government regulations on drivers. One shoe does not fit everybody and neither do the regulations.

The 3 hr break should be counted towards your 10 off you need. That is the only way it will help the hours of service.

Completely do away with hours of service ,period. Stuck waiting to load or unload, go to sleeper. When loaded/unloaded get up and drive ;hungry get something to eat; tired, park it and sleep. Too simple, except for the cartel and other idiots that want big brother to run their lives. If you get rid of HOS lots of good things will happen; make more money , you will be able to find a parking spot, fuel lines will be shorter, you will get home more often and for longer periods of time, more likely to get home when the wife is ovulating, she will love you more, more babies that will pay social security when you are too old to work, have time to go to church, you will be less stressed out because you aren't racing against the clock, you will cuss less and driving fatalities will be reduced.
    Does anyone get it ?

I've been driving trucks since 1994. The 14 hr clock and the 10 hr rest are the most ineffective way to make this industry safe that I've seen. There's no flexibility in the job anymore when you are penalized for any time the truck has to stop, whether it's to load or unload or stop for showers and meals. Then if you get tired and need a nap, your certainly not going to stop. Also the 10hr break needs to be rolled back to the 8hr break that it was before. Then maybe some of the driver shortage would be reduced. The ELD is not the problem, just roll back the HOS to what they were in 1994.

How can anyone even imagine that racing against the clock, I mean a timer will make the highways safer. The half hour break is just a bad idea, there is absolutely no common sense in it. It's very simple. Drive when your not tired, sleep when your tired. Truck accidents will be few and far between.

This has been a problem from the start, if a driver is fatigued a 30 minute break means nothing like back when I started driving your clock should stop until u have had the rest you need and restart alowing you to work your remaining time the 14 hr clock rule is very unsafe only the driver knows when he needs a rest but to get your maximum miles you can't stop the other problems are still shipper and receivers most do not have enough employees to accommodate the volume of trucks loading or uploading it our hours continue to burn many times they run you out of hours and tell you you can't stay there so now not only you lost valuable driving time but your forced to violate because some elog systems are set up when you mower the truck it puts you in driving status many issues to be addressed but unless you've been there done that you have no right making policies that don't work this is something you can't learn in a book and you can't go by what these big drop a hook companies do real trucking is done by drivers who haul loads that live load and unload by appointment and now days it's almost impossible to do

I fully support change to be made,
It looks like it is been ingnored and neglected the rights of Truck industry in general.
Mainly the H. O .S Is changing over the years to some ways that has no befinit for the trucking but to limit their choices and making them robot machines that activates on and off by default, thanks OOIDA for keeping us updated and fighting for Our rights as truck drivers

Just do away with the 14 hour ruling completely. Let us sleep or take our 10 hr break when and where we need it. We can’t even stop to get a healthy meal anymore without being pushed by14 hr clock to keep going, even when we’re sleepy.

Let us use our 14 hours the way we want. Any down time takes away from our earning potential. Off duty is much less stressful than sitting in a traffic jam. Let's instill common sense.
