Toughest second place finish of all time?

Clinton second to Trump is quickly becoming the all time second finish because of its global impact now and the future. The stated tough second place finishers are limited to parochial concerns and therefore fail to have necessary impact of a more informed universal population. Good poll question though.

Yeah Golden State pretty much had 3 chances to NOT finish second place...and finished second place.

Wait we’re not talking about Golden State dropping a 3-1 lead in the finals??

2000 National election. Gore was announced as winner of Florida, then to close to call, then Bush Jr was called the winner, then again it was announced to close to call. Gore conceded on Dec 13 after weeks of machine recounts, manual recounts, legal disputes, involving Supreme Court. Not as worldly as the moon landing though.

Think about this. The moon walk was chosen at some point, so Buzz knew beforehand. That’s tough, but not as heartbreaking. 1972 basketball was a fix and the players knew at some point shortly afterward. Some of the other ones, they also knew they were going to be second. It has to be La La Land. Even though it was a mistake, it was a complete shocker. They had apparently already won. To me, that would be the most bitter defeat because there is no reason at all, other than the mistake.

What about Japan catching 2 A-bomb's for finishing second in WW2?

Jordan Spieth in the 2016 masters? Probably worth mentioning. Talked about for days after it happened.
