Richard had the “polish” experience for portraying a TV host

  • Megen Barsness - 3 years ago

Hands down Ken Jennings!!! I will not be watching when Katie Couric guest hosts.

  • cW - 3 years ago

Mike WAY too robotic. It's fine for a few episodes but will grow stale quick.

  • Isaac Davidian - 3 years ago

I liked Ken Jennings, but after watching him on the chase, he is a bit too arrogant and “know it all”. Yes I know that’s the point of the chase, but would not want that to seep into Jeopardy. I vote for Mike Richards.

  • Bonnie Hernandez - 3 years ago

I was all set to not like Ken Jennings, but was pleasantly surprised. He was an excellent host, has a pleasing voice and I’d love to see him take Alex’s place. Incidentally, I understand that Alex felt he would be a good replacement. Of course, Alex can’t really be replaced!

  • Anita - 3 years ago

Both Ken and Mike are doing well. The game is entertaining. They both need a chance to relax. Cream rises to the top. My family and I would prefer their talents and knowledge over entertainers and God forbid, politicians.

  • Michael W Frey - 3 years ago

I like Ken and Mike. I'd give the edge to Mike. Absolutely NO to any celeb who has opined publicly on politics. That leaves out (please!) Anderson, Katy, Savannah, and many others. Having said all the above, I'm sure a lot of people didn't like the early years Alex's humor, sardonic wit, and the lightning quick ability to ad lib.

  • Alea B - 3 years ago

    Mike Richards,,, PERIOD!

  • M.Thompson - 3 years ago

I would love to see Mike Richards He would be a very good replacement. He’s seem very comfortable in front of the cameras.

  • Gabriella K Davis - 3 years ago

Both Ken and Mike have done an excellent job. They are both engaging, quick and capable. However, I give Mike a slight edge because he has a more classy and classic host quality, a more "emcee-ish" vibe.

  • Richard Honaker - 3 years ago

Mike Richard’s voice and personality is by far better than any Ken Jennings. Will not watch again if Jennings wins.

  • Ellen Fitzwater - 3 years ago

Between Richard and Ken I would go with Ken. Richard seems “tight” and his comments seem “forced” ; where Ken’s seem to come more naturally.

  • Cathy B - 3 years ago

I would like to see Brook Burns be considered as the host for Jeopardy. She was excellent with The Chase and Masterminds. In fact she is 100 times better than the current host for the new Chase

  • Jayne - 3 years ago

Alex will always be irreplaceable. Mike Richards and Ken Jennings have done a fine job in their own right, however. I would probably give a slight edge to Mike for smoother delivery. Either would be ok in my book. I absolutely WILL NOT WATCH when Katie Couric is hosting. Poor choice Jeopardy!

  • Lynn Crane - 3 years ago

Definitely Ken. He is who Alex would have wanted. Please give Ken the job.

  • Craig - 3 years ago

I have to say I liked both. Before Jennings did his first episode I thought how could they (Jeopardy) even consider him. He did a great job and certainly deserves a chance to be a permanent host. Mike also did a great job, so I think either one of them would work.

  • MONTE WOODEN - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings. Great presence. Very supportive of the contestants. Very knowledgeable.

  • Ray Gregg - 3 years ago

Mike Richards is too much like a used car salesman.
Ken Jennings is not used to being in this kind of spotlight.
He gained confidence as he progressed onward.
Remember that Alex took over 36 years to become what he was.
Do not add into any confusion by bringing in “outsiders”.

  • Pat Gerrero - 3 years ago

I think Mike Richard's has a judgmental manner when he says NO. It grates on me everytime he says no!! I liked Ken Jennings but I don't mind watching the others who are set to host and then decide.

  • Mike Losi - 3 years ago

I would like to see former E Entertainment host Steve Kmetko given a try. He has the style, looks and laid back attitude to fill Alex's shoes perfectly.GO STEVE !

  • Cyma - 3 years ago

They’d are both very good but I will go with mike..please no tv hosts, not even as guests

  • Jim - 3 years ago

Definitely Ken Jennings. I'm not sure what the gripe is about his voice. He's smart and amusing and would be great as the permanent host. Mike is just a little too slick for my taste. As to the upcoming potential hosts, Anderson would be fine but hard pass on the others. And Dr Oz?? Oh please, that huckster! Spare me. He's oily and smarmy, and I couldn't stand to look at or listen to him.

  • Elzek Wallace - 3 years ago

Ken has my vote. I feel he is the perfect match. Mike was very short & irritating when it was the wrong answer. He is too stiff & stoic not right for the position & what's up with his constant stiff hand gestures? Ken is very personal. Katy Couric is completely wrong for the job! She's too much of an egotist & makes everything about Her! Just what were thinking? The rest of the lineup shouldn't even be a considered as they too are not right for Jeopardy. The thing I love the most about Jeopardy is that is very educational, smart & fun to play a long with.

Its Ken Jenning all the way!

  • Pcn1 - 3 years ago

Ken is the best so far..mike has a job already...his endings are corny. Ken's more genuine. Absolutely no to katie or savannah...or the others

  • Mijul - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings by far! No, to Katy Couric

  • Caryn - 3 years ago

Ken surprised me by how well he did. I do think he speaks a little fast, but he seems host-ready to me. Mike seems so smarmy to me. He emphasized that he only had 3 days to prepare unlike other guest hosts, but how long has he been exec producer at this point? Does he really need more time to be brought up to speed on how to host his own show? That just doesn't ring true. Mike also mispronounces words and doesn't seem that bright. I totally agree with the posters who suggested Brad Rutter. He has a nice voice and is smart and personable. I will be interested in how the other hosts do, except for Dr. Oz. I don't know if I can take him and his "charm" for two weeks...

  • Linda - 3 years ago

Why not give Brad Rutter a chance?

  • Scott Wildebeest - 3 years ago

    Ken Jennings all the way.

  • Jerry - 3 years ago

Mike is a bit too chatty, and his closure about making the world a better place blah blah blah is cringe worthy. My family all reach for the mute button before he gets to it. My vote is for Ken. I also will not be watching when the wretched Katie Couric guest hosts.

  • Betsy - 3 years ago

My opinion is that Ken did a MUCH BETTER job! Could not even watch Mike's full 2 weeks. I hate to think what's going to happen to Jeopardy after the other guest host do their time. My opinion Jeopardy is spiraling without Ken Jennings.

  • Scott Wildebeast - 3 years ago

Milquetoast Mike Richards is for people who remember Wink Martindale and think he's "too edgy." And let's face it, most Jeopardy viewers remember Wink Martindale.

  • Debra Mason - 3 years ago

Please choose Ken Jennings. He was very well prepared and polished. He is the best choice for a Jeopardy host.

  • Doramary - 3 years ago

Please Mike all the way. Very relatable, friendly, good looking,Alex would be so proud. Yes we have a group of 27 here and we all Mike Richards.

  • Michael - 3 years ago

Please No to Michael Richards... Horrible, political, phoney, condescending and too slow in his response... Ken Jennings is the absolute way to go. Also please avoid Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper as again more political injection as this is where Alex was excellent in keeping a political free show... Thanks...

  • Peggy - 3 years ago

Definitely not ken..anyone else would be better

  • Diane - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings with his connection to Alex Trebek is the best choice. A definite NO to Katie Couric and the others

  • Mike - 3 years ago

Brad Rutter... surprised he's not on the list. Wry sense of humor and smoother voice than Ken or Mike

  • Holly Knoechel - 3 years ago

BOTH ARE GOOD. PLEASE DO NOT PUT KATIE COURIC ON AS HOST.

  • Chistosa - 3 years ago

I would much prefer Ken. I have had a hard time watching Mike. He is slick and does not come across as genuine. And he is preachy. If these were the only two choices, I would want Ken. I m so glad that Mike is done after today.

  • Don Jusn - 3 years ago

    Ken is condescending and arrogant!

  • Calvin Cole - 3 years ago

I like Mike a bit more than Ken but don’t want any of the others on your list. But please, none of the females on the list, NONE! But then I didn’t think Drew Carey would be a good host for that other game show. Boy was I wrong on that one. Guess I’ll wait for September to see who you pick to determine if I’ll continue to watch your great show. Thanks for all the previous years of Jeopardy.

  • Dora Szkatulski - 3 years ago

I really liked Ken Jennings. Of course you cannot compare anyone
to Alex and I think Ken brought his own personality toward the end of the show. Unfortunately, I doubt I can continue watching Jeopardy when the news reporters are hosting the show. Very bad decision!!!

  • Gary - 3 years ago

To me they are more similar than different.

  • Lekha wickramasekaran - 3 years ago

    Good host...

  • Margaret Cox - 3 years ago

Both hosts were often slow on letting people know their answers were correct. Lengthy pauses made me think some of the correct answers were wrong and, I'm sure jarred the contestants.

  • Carrie Hudson - 3 years ago

I want Ken. Mike was ok for a temp but still want Ken. I will quit watching if it is Katie or Savannah. Don’t care for the others. I WANT KEN!

  • Jean White - 3 years ago

Both say NO too brusquely...Both need to soften their voices just a tad. Mike is far better. At that time of day, after the news cycles through, a fellow with a soothing voice and demeanor would be a welcome respite. Alex did that...so it can be done. Both seemed nervous and I suspect they could work on that. Mike seems more amenable to learning. I was hoping Brad Rutter would be given a shot at it.....no news people. It's a different gig.

  • Shirley Rae - 3 years ago

Do not want Couric, Cooper, or Guthrie. Dr.Oz would be the very worst host. He talks way too fast and does not enunciate properly. He's bad even on his own show.

  • James Lipham - 3 years ago

Ken seems more of a genuine person and not as stoic and plastered as Mike comes across. Think Ken is much smarter too. Sure he would not have accepted Back on the Road Again as a correct answer. How about a week of Jeopardy competition between Ken and Mike with the winner being named the host. No doubt how that would turn out.

  • Jan - 3 years ago

Loved Ken Jennings. Hope he is the permanent host. Mike Richards is too syrupy and condecinding for me. I don't recall Alex ever being like that. Have watched Jeopardy since Art Fleming days.

  • Amanda - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings hands down. Mike is so....game show. Ken is like a friend or family member- more like Alex. I don’t get why people like Mike. He’d be great for a high energy game show. Personally I find him distracting. Whatever- I’ll watch regardless...unless Ken gets a better show on another network at the same time. ????

  • Gwen - 3 years ago

I much prefer Mike than Ken Mike seems comfortable as the host. His personality seems like Alex. I think Alex would have liked Mike as host.

  • Marlene Hulley - 3 years ago

I really “like” Mike Richards. He’s at ease on camera, personable and doesn’t get rattled. He’s more like Alex and already comfortable with his duties. You are searching for a “HOST”, Mike Richards IS YOUR Perfect HOST!

  • Carol Mastrogiovanni - 3 years ago

I hink Mike’s voice needs to be a little softer.. Like ,Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen .. Not ...GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! It’s ok to sound more like Alex..I also think Ken had good fill in comments ...

  • Arlene Stewart - 3 years ago

Watching Mike is like watching an actor. . . Not genuine at all. Let’s move on.

  • Diana J Peters - 3 years ago

I still would like to see the rest of the guest hosts.

  • Nancy - 3 years ago

I liked Mike I found him to be the most similar to Alex. He was more relaxed and natural, I felt Ken was trying to hard.
He is good on the chase.

  • Gail Moore - 3 years ago

Please stay with Mike Richards. I am a lifelong Jeopardy watcher and he is so likeable and easy to listen to, even better than Alex if you ask me.

  • Lois Matthews - 3 years ago

Ken should definitely be the one. Will not watch if Mike gets the job. Think Alex wanted Ken.

  • Jackie - 3 years ago

Mike does a great job but just like one of the other comments noted, he is like a movie star doing his job. I feel Ken was different. He was a part of and into the game, it didn't feel like an act.

  • Keith Rogers - 3 years ago

The good news from all these comments is that so many do not agree with the selection of people from the news media as hosts. I strongly agree with that. These media people just can't figure out why they aren't respected.

  • Kevin Callahan - 3 years ago

Go for Ben Bently as your new hist; he already hosts a trivia show and does ut whilw driving and hez good at it

  • Dorothy - 3 years ago

I think Mike is too much into himself and that is not what Alex ever wanted, it was not the host but the players

  • Alice B McDaniel - 3 years ago

I think Ken Jenning was trying to be Alex and no one can fill Alex's shoes. Mike is filling his own shoes. Mike is relaxed and has a strong voice. Mike as you can see is my vote.

  • T Smith - 3 years ago

NEITHER. The host to replace Alex needs to be someone more humble, esteemed and well spoken, keep searching. Ken is NOT the one, and Mike is NOT the one, I doubt any of the other upcoming guests will be any good either, they need to put someone way more dignified in this spot. Period. I think Alex would have chose another Canadian, someone who is well spoken and smart, with a stonger voice than either guest hosts so far.

  • Joanne - 3 years ago

My family strongly prefers Mike as permanent host. His banter & easy humor with the contestants is an asset. The audience is more comfortable with Mike at the helm. Ken's voice is not strong enough...he continues to be ill @ ease with the guests & does not appear to be a people person. He doesn't have that "in charge" persona.

  • MaryAnne - 3 years ago

Mike all the way.....great talker, personality, and makes you feel comfortable...........fits in very well.....Ken was just ok.....not interested in any others......

  • J Lester - 3 years ago

Ken seemed to be Alex's choice! He was grooming him for the position! Mike has not been with Jeopardy very long and hops from job to job! It should stay within the Jeopardy family! I have enjoyed watching the Chase...those three are great representation of Jeopardy and knowledge! I will also not be watching when the political three will be guest hosting! I have plenty of great tournaments recorded and will re watch those! Another thing..Alex was such a family man and a philanthropist!

  • Joyce - 3 years ago

I liked Ken Jennings until I saw him on the show The Chase. Behavior not becoming of the host of Jeopardy.

  • Pat - 3 years ago

Why not have Ken and Mike split the season this year? Cooper might be good but the others - NO.

  • Judy - 3 years ago

Darn, I was quite prepared to dislike everyone but Ken J. Mike spoiled that because I really like him too! The two personalities are very different but I thought both did a terrific job. I would be happy with either one. By the way, I'm prepared to dislike all the other guest hosts!

  • Alice - 3 years ago

Mike is my choice. Ken has no personality for hosting the show. He talks way too fast and seems to be rushing through the questions. So it’s definitely Mike for my choice

  • Helen S - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings has my vote! An Everyman exceptional in his trivia knowledge. He did a great job hosting

  • Trish Barber - 3 years ago

    Mike Richard's has my vote.

  • Nida Fernandez PhD - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings is perfect for the Jeopardy to replace Alex. Ken is wholistic in his approach to the program and people. He is well rounded in personality, intelligence, smartness, empathetic, respectful, enjoys in a genuine way the contestant gains and knowledge, great sincere humor, approachable etc etc. Soooo different from Mike Richards who appears superficial.

Ken has all the qualities of Alex. Maybe that is why they had a mutual admiration.

Let’s cheer for Ken. Remember that Alex also had a beginning and as he matured he made Jeopardy with experience

    Nidq

  • Kathi - 3 years ago

Ken has a heart for the contestant. He truly wants to encourage and knows what it is like to be under pressure. Mike Richards knows the steps and procedure to put on a wonderful show but he is robotically. The sincerity is missing and in it’s place is a step by step procedural manual.

  • Sally - 3 years ago

No one can replace Alex. I have had enough of what Alex has thought or said. I wish he could rest in peace! I hope his wife and children get through the grieving process. Every night there are reminders.
I can't believe it will take until September to find a replacement. I hope it doesn't take 37 years to complete the search. Not everyone will be happy with his replacement. Maybe people should only host for four to eight years just like the presidents!!

  • Armi - 3 years ago

Prefer Ken Jennings, he did a good job despite no experience in hosting. Mike Richards is a professional one.

  • Esther Freedman - 3 years ago

I vote for Ken Jennings, because Alex wanted him as the permanent replacement. In order to honor Alex, do the decent and honorable thing and choose Ken Jennings as the permanent host.

  • Rick Sneed - 3 years ago

Post a ballot and vote for Ken,Mike, other (giving those who don’t prefer either).

  • Pat Billings - 3 years ago

I believe Ken Jennings is a better fit. Mike Richards was too mechanical for me and Ken seemed more relaxed and more humorous. Richards' comments after a correct answer were very robotical and stiff. Put Mike back in the Exec Producer chair. The upcoming guest hosts don't excite me at all- especially Katie Couric. I don't plan to watch at all if she fills that role.

  • Pam hammomd - 3 years ago

I think Alex would have wanted Ken Jennings to host in his absence. Please choose him.

  • Margaret - 3 years ago

I have watched the show for many years and I never cared for Ken Jennings—as a contestant or host. I did not watch the show when he was the host and I would never watch it again if he became the permanent host. I was eager and a bit anxious to see Mike Richards as the host. I loved it! He is very personable with the contestants and he has a wonderful personality and way to keep the show moving. I have several friends who are also fans of the show and we have been discussing the differences.. everyone loves Mike’s skills and have said that he is the best ever! We are all hoping that he will be the next permanent host of Jeopardy.

  • Rick Sneed - 3 years ago

Pick between Ken and Mike and move on. The rediculous upcoming hosts will only destroy the show.

  • Zoe Marnocha - 3 years ago

Both Ken and Mike did a nice job. I think Ken has earned the spot, but I'll look forward to whomever is awarded the role. As I read through the comments, if there is one thing I find childish is the people who say that if their candidate doesn't win, they won't watch anymore. Did their parents never teach them that "'If I don't get my way, I quit!' just doesn't work in this world?" Kind of like what happened after the last election too. Time to grow up, people! You win some, and you lose some.

  • Joe Higgins - 3 years ago

I've been impressed by both Ken Jennings and Mike Richards. Ken Jennings seemed nervous at first, but relaxed as the weeks went along and towards the end of his run, it seemed like he was born to the job. Mike Richards has seemed comfortable in the role right from the start, probably since he's worked with the show as executive producer. I'm getting tired of hearing the same Alex Trebek quote from Richards at the end of every show, though if he'd come up with new quotes, I could see it as an enduring tribute to Trebek. My own favorite Trebek quote: "I'm curious about everything, even the things that don't interest me."

  • Maxine Higdon - 3 years ago

I like both Ken and Mike. They are both very smart and certainly could be permanent hosts. Will have to wait and see.

  • Cathy Brandt - 3 years ago

I respect Ken Jennings as the replacement host for the late Alex Trebek. Ken has been associated with Jeopardy since 2004. He has displayed his affection and respect for the game. I cast my vote for Ken Jennings with great confidence.
I look forward for him being announced as the new host.

I do not care for the performance of Mike Richards. As a matter of fact, I have suspended watching Jeopardy this past week.

  • Jan - 3 years ago

Mike Richards appears more Smooth & Relaxed .. and seems to be Compassionate. I choose him. Will NOT watch this program if Kate Couric . Savannah Guthrie . Anderson Cooper are the Hosts ... Even though we have watched Faithfully for years!

  • Colleen Thompson - 3 years ago

If Mr. Richards has movie star looks and charm, somehow they have eluded me. That said, movie star looks and charm is not what this role is about. A high IQ is needed, and Mike Richards just cannot compare to Alex or Ken. Ken has the individuality, wit, and IQ for this role. Alex had years to grow into his role. Did anyone ever watch when Alex was young? He was very different than he was in his latter years. Ken has the qualifications to do a fantastic job. He will be himself. Afterall, this is not about trying to find an Alex clone. No one will ever replace Alex and should not try. Let the next person make the job his own.

  • Barbara Dixon - 3 years ago

I vote for Mike, he is charming and knowledgeable and you know he cares about the game and highly respects Alex. When Ken's name was given I thought 'oh there goes the game, I don't think I'll be watching
very much." The majority of the other names that are to host? I just won't watch Jeopardy anymore, they don't seem to fit the role. I am hoping Mike will stay on. I have been watching Jeopardy for many years and losing the show will be sad, but I won't watch just because the host is a big name. However, I really like Sanjay Gupta he has been a great informer and encourager during this difficult time in our country. He is also quite pleasant. I VOTE FOR MIKE!????

  • Carol - 3 years ago

While Mike seems a nice fellow, my husband and I prefer Ken Jennings. In fact we so lived Alex that we were surprised how much we liked Ken. The fact we knew he probably knew the answers on his own gave him an authority over the game that enhanced it for us. Mike was nice but his surprise at some of the correct answers made it seem like he didn't have command of the show which made us uncomfortable watching. Also got very tired of his let's all be nice comment at the end. Lovely sentiment but every night it began to feel forced and awkward. The others in my view aren't serious contenders.

  • Mark - 3 years ago

Mike is a far better host than Ken. He is clearly comfortable and remains “in the moment.” He does something amazing that even Alex did not do—interview contestants without any notes.

  • Susan - 3 years ago

I like Ken Jennings better because he is warmer and doesn't seem to admonish a contestant if he or she gives the wrong answer as Mike Ricards seems to do. Mike is over polished...could be a host on a game show like Match Game or Password. Mike does have a lot of personality but Ken is more serious but humorous when it's appropriate, and has the warmth that Alex had. He also shows the knowledge he has for many subjects. I like Ken!

  • Mary - 3 years ago

I disagree about Richards..I think he comes across too brazen...I have watched Jeopardy since it started and not happy with Richards....my opinion only...

  • Brena Walker - 3 years ago

Mike Richards and Ken Jennings? I’d choose Ken but want see what others do. Mike is grating on the ears and nerves.

  • Angela R Ford-Jones - 3 years ago

I liked both of them but Mike should learn how to pronounce some of words in the questions, before the show. Mike is handsome and his personality is close to Alex whereas Ken had a tendency to be a little sarcastic..

  • Wilma Burgess - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings 100% should have this position, he done a wonderful job as guest host and I believe Alex would be and is proud of the job Ken done, I am not impressed with Mike at all. Mike just doesn't have the personality that I believe is needed for the job.

  • Carol - 3 years ago

Both tried hard. I think there may be another Alex Trebek out there somewhere. Neither Mike nor Ken is up to Alex, and Mike wears a bit thin and can be irritable. Keep looking.
