    Donut is absolutely correct. These pastries are not all necessarily made of dough, and the name refers to a type of pastry, not its origin.

    One that argues it is a "Doughnut" should henceforth be required to refer to some as doughnuts and others as batternuts.

    I prefer to spell it Homer J Simpson style "Dohnut"

    I say Doughtnut. Because Doughtnuts are made out of DOUGH not DO.

    Damn, I wouldn't fit in around CNN. My favorite doughnuts are jelly-filled and my favorite cookies are oatmeal raisin.
