I haven't seen any arguments for GR that don't also apply to Asheville. The local community supports and promotes through and through. Almost every restaurant around here has local beers, and our grociery stores sell growlers and beers from breweries all the way from Sylva, NC. Almost anywhere you go, locals can offer incredible insight and knowledge on the different beers and give you a reccommendation that will change your life (woo Bama Buzz!)!! We have walking and bicycle tours of breweries and bars that will introduce you to flavors you can't even imagine. There's no doubt about it, Asheville has a deep love and powerful affection/appreciation for good beers! Meow!

Grand Rapids has a huge brewing community going for it. Brewers, Home Brewers, Pubs all support each other. The Arts and Event communities back it up too. I was toasting the American Homebrewers Association's Big Brew Day at the Calder Plaza with the Mayor, George Heartwell, just this Saturday. The event was sponsored by Siciliano's Market, one of the best HB suppliers I know and a winner too.
    Grand Rapids, Beer City USA!

    Jacksonville!!!!!!

  • Lewy - 11 years ago

@Jay Besides your awesome website, San Fran doesn't really have a cool craft beer vibe. Most people I know wouldn't consider it a craft beer city. Yes it has a couple insane breweries, but as a whole it really can not compare to other city's on the list. I know that is going to hurt, its not meant to.

Asheville will win again, now I've never been, but I feel like all Asheville does is promote, promote and promote. While San Diego should be a contender we will not win. We are to busy enjoying our 60+ breweries to even vote.

The real question is why is Chicago on this list?

  • Jay Brooks - 11 years ago

Wow, the San Francisco Bay Area is not even listed. Sheesh, does that seem like a slap in the face.

  • Gerard Walen - 11 years ago

    TAMPA!!!!

  • Ross - 11 years ago

Taking into consideration the size of Grand Rapids compared to some much larger cities on this list, they rock. Beer City is not just how many places in you city make beer...its a feeling. The friendship between Brewers, Home Brewers, Craft Pubs and the city itself is what creates this feeling and why Grand Rapids, Michigan IS Beer City USA!
