I turned 50 this Summer, and my siblings and their families and our best friends joined us at our house for a weekend of celebrating! Since our parents are now both deceased, time together with my siblings is very, very important and sweet and special! We spent the weekend grilling some, eating out some, bowling, and eating cake. I have a friend who is an amazing baker, and she made me a very special birthday cake. I gave her the theme of four things that have been important in my life in the first 50 years, and those are faith, family, Texas and Dobermans. She made a cake in the shape of Texas with a cross representing faith that also had the word "family" on it, and a Doberman in a sitting position. It was so amazing, I cried when I saw it. And it was out of this world delicious!!! A very special weekend with very special people!

I am a Brit so some bits of my summer were much wetter than others. During the summer though we welcomed two new babies into our family - both little boys, both premature and both born with difficulties. The early part of the summer was stressful as we watched these tiny little things struggle to breathe and gain weight. They are both over the worst and are thriving now - such a relief and some great summer memories of how they fought and beat the odds to survive and flourish. A summer of ups and downs but one we won't forget now we have two new treasures in our lives.

My favorite place on earth is Port Aransas, Texas and this summer I was blessed in two ways. I was able to return to Port Aransas to celebrate my 60th birthday and to see this wonderful place ONE WEEK before hurricane Harvey destroyed it. Port A was a family vacation spot from the time I was little...I've seen it rise from a sleepy port town to a wonderful vacation spot. Nothing will keep Port A down.....it will return. Please pray for everyone that lost homes (both permanent and vacation), businesses and boats belonging to professional and recreational fisherman in Port A, Rockport and all along the Gulf Coast!

We rarely travel anymore because of ill health. But I have a long lifetime of happy memories of summer family times: week-long stays at the beach with kids and grandkids, watching the little ones frolic in the surf and build elaborate sand castles; "cousins' reunions" with scattered loved ones from both sides of the family at different times, eating incomparable home cooking with so many favorite dishes, catching up with each other and re-discovering how much we all had in common! Laughing over beloved childhood memories. Always a prize for the family that had traveled the farthest.

We never have any vacations (no $$), but we had a really nice summer. We went to the community pool once a week, sometimes twice. One of my kids went to church camp, and two went to sports camp. (All paid for by charities.) But the best thing about this summer was that after six years of continuously looking for a job, and not being found worthy by prospective employers, my husband was finally hired to be a junior high school history teacher ! Praise God !! Even with four undergraduate degrees, two masters degrees, and a law degree, and 51 years on this earth worth of experience, no one seemed to value an "old" person :( We are so grateful to God that He heard our prayers and answered them in His own timing. No more 60 hour work weeks (cutting it down to 40) for me trying to support five people--Woohoo !

Family, family, family...with my oldest in now in college, we treasured this summer knowing this might be the last one he is at home at least during the summers.
My favorite thing was going to NYC by myself! Lucky for me, I went during Restaurant Week so I ate more food than is humanly possible. I also did sort of a Food Network restaurant tour. I went to Gato, Butter and Fusco where I got to meet Scott Conant! That completely made my whole trip and I even got a picture with him. This trip was something I'll never forget :)

The best part about this summer was not being so busy!
Vacation dominated the early part of the summer with a trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia....the trip of a lifetime. To see elephants, rhino, hippos, alligators, cape buffalo, and lions in their natural habitat......there are no words. Beautiful countries, beautiful people and beautiful animals. Pure Bliss. The rest of the summer was spent planting a 1000 sf wildflower garden at our little church nestled in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado with the help of several church members......next Spring should be fun! Another fun project was cladding my huge, concrete retaining wall with 50 year old, rusty, tin barn roofing! Building columns, cladding them in rock and anchoring this weathered tin to a very ugly wall......including a faux barn doors, stained pale grey and dry brushed with barn red.......aaaaahhhh....no more ugly retaining wall!. The hollyhocks in front of this wall makes it a lovely "welcome to our cabin" when friends drive in to visit! Ten days with 3 young grandkids......my heart is full!

We do a lot of out door items with family members.
Family dinners on the back deck, with delicious smells coming from the grill, warm evenings, and lots of laughter. The absolute best thing about summer.
I loved spending time with my family and watching my daughter do her swim lessons. And we enjoyed our first family vacation together which was so much fun!
The once in a life time total solar eclipse while visiting Nashville.
Enjoyed family cookouts. No travel all summer until next week. Can't wait because it's with family!
I loved swimming and sunbathing in the pool and at the beach with my family!
Loved spending time this summer with the granddaughter who starts middle school next week.
I live in Florida, so every day is summer!
My daughter surprised me in July with a trip to Pawhuska, Oklahoma (literally in the middle of nowhere, btw) to visit The Mercantile. We got to meet Ree and other members of her family. We LOVED ALL the food (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and thoroughly enjoyed shopping at the store and bringing home our treasures to use or to share with family and friends. One of my favorite trips ever.
This summer was very special because we had a special summer vacation planned for our biys, who graduated from high school and college this year. We spent a week in the Dominican Republic and had great family time, before our oldest son moved out and our youngest son started college. We made memories that will last a lifetime!
Fellowship, Family and Friends of course!
Family Time!!
My favorite part of summer was getting to travel to see family. My granddaughter graduated Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio the beginning of August and I just got back from New Jersey visiting my oldest daughter, who is in the Air Force, at her new base. Had an awesome time!!!
Seeing The Painted Hills, Sioux Falls (who knew there were actual Falls there??), and Shoshone Falls with my son.
Love camping with family this summer. Blessed that we have a permanite site set up. Loved the cookouts, trying new recipes outdoors, campfires (s'mores!), swimming and taking my 11 yr. old grandson fishing. Making great memories together is what it's all about!
My husband and I took our 2 year old twin boys to the train museum which was the highlight of their lives! They had so mich fun swimming and having cookout with the family!
The best part of summer was having my 6 year old granddaughter with me for 2 weeks. She makes my life complete.
I love everything about summer. But most of all it's time with my family. That is something I cherish and never take for granted.
Kids and Grandkids camped and hung out together. nothing fancy just being with each other.
Worked alot, but got see most of my family we hadn't seen in a few years and my garden, which is my happy place.
Traveled to two of my kids' college graduations with my parents. Also, just got back from a long weekend with my husband...celebrating 30 years of marriage. We really enjoyed the time away from the norm.
Playing Pokemon Go with my niece and nephew.
Cookouts are fun because it brings family and friends together...But that only happens on holidays....And the cookouts are only in late spring and summer...And I sure do enjoy the cookouts....Family, friends and good food!!!
I was off from work the majority of the summer on surgery leave and thoroughly enjoyed being home with my family. Especially since I travel for my job most of the year. It was wonderful being with my husband and children!
Family, Friends and Faith! It's the best part of summer--and life!
Met my 3 brand new great grandchildren (1 in Texas, 1 in Arizona, 1 in Virginia)!!! Such an awesome experience!
We were busy this summer but also had plenty of lazy days! Really enjoyed getting to spend some quality time with my family!
All 4 of my kids were back living at home this summer (2 in college), so I loved all the family time!!
We didn't vacation this year. Hot, hot, hot in Louisiana and also rain by the bucket loads. Enjoyed having the kids, grands, and great grands over for swimming and BBQ. Mostly stayed inside quilting and staying cool or going to doctor's appointments.
Lazy summer days hanging out at home and playing badmitton.
