How do you feel about NFL players kneeling during the national anthem?

I believe standing arms linked in solidarity for every race is a better option. It will satisfy both sides. Not everyone is racist, and there are more people in the US than just black and white, this will show unity for black, Asian, Hispanic, middle eastern etc. If you create more hate, instead teaching tolerance and respect your going to fall on deaf ears!

won't* (correction for the last sentence of my comment)

  • Q - 7 years ago

I think kneeling is a respectful way to protest. I think if you believe in democracy and the constitution then you should respect the right to protest whether you agree with why or not. You can't cherry pick rights. You either believe peaceful protests and freedom of speech are a right or you don't. My father served in the military and he still protested things.

There are many terrible things going on in this world, police brutality being one of them. Bringing awareness to that is not wrong. We have many wonderful men and women serving in law enforcement who are supportive of this protest. Police brutality is not new but people are able to video tape it now. We need police reform.

But again, whether you agree or not, you should respect the right to protest. Our country was born out of protest. If you start limiting someone's rights, it would be long before someone comes after yours.

  • Ellis Froeschle - 7 years ago

I think many of these emotional responses against the protest are a form of white people putting their fingers in their ears and singing, in order to not hear what is being said by the protesters. They cannot bear to be called racists! But you can be a very good person and never have a mean thought toward anyone (i.e. not personally a racist), and still be contributing to the maintenance of a racist SYSTEM. I challenge everyone who thinks black people DO have equality in our country to watch this video. Take your fingers out of your ears for one hour, please! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac4DdjmVx88

My dad served in the U.S. Army, and my uncle in the U.S. Air Force. I have cousins who are retired from the Navy and Air Force. I have friends who are Marine vets. When I see people who don't want to show respect for the U.S. flag or National Anthem, I feel offended, because not only are they disrespecting our flag and country, they are also disrespecting my family, friends, and everyone else who has ever served for and/ or died for our country. If somebody wants to make a political statement, they can find another time to do so, but not during the National Anthem.
Also, I believe that black lives matter, but blue lives matter, too. I live in Back of the Yards in Chicago, a 10 minute bus ride away from Englewood. In July, there was an armed robbery, and a cop got shot in the leg. In May, 2 undercover officers were shot while sitting in their van doing an investigation. The following day, the streets were quiet. I didn't see or hear anybody from the NFL or CNN come out and protest these shootings or any other cop shootings ( and police of different races do get shot, too).As of Sept. 25, 2017, Chicago has passed the 500 homicide mark, and most of them have been gang warfare or caught in the crossfire on the south and west sides. It's so easy for NFL players to protest during the football season and then spend the rest of the year enjoying their vacation, instead of going to the inner city and joining the community protests, or to pray on the streetcorners with pastors in the 'hood. The players could help curb the violence if they were to build new stadiums and community centers, add new free children's programs, mentor, etc. They need to show some more action off the field and stop this disrespectful grandstanding, because they are only alienating fans right now, and accomplishing nothing.

Most of us would be fired if we choose to protest during our work day. I don't disagree that there are injustices we should discuss, but protesting the flag and the anthem is misplaced by these players. Use your platform outside of work to influence change and unity. These protests are insulting the men and women in uniform who represent and protect all of us.

  • Matthew Enk - 7 years ago

They have every constitutional right to do what they are doing. I don't like it I'm insulted by it. And I have every right to quit watching football. And that's what I'll be doing!

  • Larry - 7 years ago

No way can I except the protests during the anthem. I don't care what they think they need to stand up for. There is a time and place for this and during sporting events is not one. Rich athletes that think they can do,say and act as they want is wrong. Find another plate form if it means that much, move out of the states if it is so bad but don't disrespect the flag and the people that fought so you could be rich. I walked away from the nfl on Sunday when the protests started. That hurt to not get to relax and watch football. I will walk away from basketball also when they do it,and they will pull something because they think because they are rich and powerful than can. Find your own plate form to piss on not mine
Good luck and sorry I can't make it to the next Sunday football day. Or the next etc

They are freking performers, not Occupy Wall Street (that was bought and paid for by George Soros).

  • Female Fan - 7 years ago

NFL should mix 1/2 naked men wearing cowboys boots within the female cheerleaders if they really want to promote equality and unity......things that make you go hmmmmmm?!!?!

  • Levi Keller - 7 years ago

I served 8 years active duty in the Marine corps. Did 5 combat tours. Seen a lot of my Friends and fellow Americans lose their lives for that Flag the NFL is Disrespecting !! I have been a huge fan since I was a very you child. I will never watch another NFL game, or purchase anything to do with it. I'm getting a refund on my NFL ticket. Absolutely pathetic and Disrespectful. I truly hope the NFL will now stand for No Fans Left !!!

  • Mary E Beach - 7 years ago

I WAS a huge football fan. Find another way to protest!!!!! I will not watch football for a team that does not support the flag and our men and women who fight for our freedom. You should be protesting steroids, domestic violence, wide spread drug abuse, child abuse, black on black crime, white on white crime, white on black crime, black on white crime. by giving your MONEY, TIME, and ENERGY to make life better. I heard one of the players state he was protesting Trump. So you disrespect the flag. Bullshit. Your are mad because he said SOB. How many NFL players have called someone an MF. I am not a Trump fan but I am a fan of the friends I lost in Viet Nam, Desert Storm, and Irac.

  • Ginger - 7 years ago

I am so sickened. When I think about all the men and women who are serving our country and have little to no relaxation other than a streamed in football game of overpaid jockeys getting millions to knock each other out with the sole purpose of getting a ball across a field. They probably are wondering why they are sacrificing their lives for a bunch of thin skin crybabies who think they are changing one single persons mind over their "cause". It has to be a group think or a mob mentality that makes these entitled athletes feel so wounded that they feel it perfectly ok to shove their disgusting disrespect to our honored men and women, black and white, red and yellow, who have died in order for them to exercise their right to protest. Wrong venue! You have totally turned your cause into a big reason for me to turn you off from this day forward. You see, I still have a few rights too.

  • cheryl austin - 7 years ago

You couldn't give me a free ticket to a NFL game if you wanted too. Let them go play in another country and make the money they do

  • Charles - 7 years ago

Screw Anyone who disrespects our anthem, our flag, our country, our warriors! Don't think it's all the same - ask a veteran! Pull your head out of your behind, dig the peanut butter out of your ears and eyes and get with reality. If these over paid, ego stroked crybabies playing a children's game don't like it - LEAVE! Get out and don't come back. Oh and good luck - you'll need it. Tens of thousands can't wait to take your job and you can be replaced TOMORROW! Good riddance.

Smith was selling drugs at a Church's Chicken. You [NFL] are a true football genius, oh my goodness! He had a bag of heroin and a handgun. Smith drove into the building, changed gears into reverse and then hit a police car twice. He vacated the scene and was pursued. When police caught up to Smith's drug car, Smith lunged & went for his gun, which was next to his drugs. 4Q, game over rook. Your mind must be truly gone, if you think that police planted a drug gun. What, do you think he was an angel or that the community is in the right to cover up for him? The football players are wrong about everything; Grade F, 0%.

You do not support criminals, period. You don't get to have things your way like that. You are making an excuse to claim racism and prejudism. By the way, those aren't your streets, you didn't build them or maintain them. Blocking streets is illegal, it prohibits everyone else's right to pursue travels. You are wrong about that view as well.. Those streets, in St. Louis, belong to all of the residents of the state and citizens of the nation. You don't run them & never will. Police can do that and that kind of protesting is dangerous, not enough fire lanes or emergency lanes. The innocent have a right to go to Church's and eat a meal, without drugs infesting the local available to the public. "That," brother, is a form of justice and equality. Maybe "you" shouldn't pledge anyway and rethink your position.

Ferguson was another criminal, dozens of arrests for drugs, selling to the entire community, ect. At what point in your life, are you not able to distinguish anymore that, that is not justifiable? You must have lost your absolute last one remaining brain cell. So, what's your other football excuse going to be? O.J wasn't guilty either because he wasn't wearing WR's glove. You [NFL & St. Louis] are looking for excuses that have no bearing or direction what-so-ever. You [NFL & St. Louis] must think that I was born yesterday. Look [NFL], don't even stand, during the Ensign's presentation - go read your playbook instead.

  • paul epner - 7 years ago

Why doesn't Fox Sports simply begin coverage of the NFL games at kick-off? Less viewers would get offended and otherwise switch channels which translates into greater advertising revenues. Is Fox Sports required by the League to broadcast these unpatriotic displays?

  • Candace - 7 years ago

Do these NFL or NBA players even know what they are kneeling for. They say they are kneeling to raise awareness for racism and unity for the country. Do they realize they are doing the opposite. Are there racists in this world. Yes. Is that that the majority of man kind? NO! Does anyone get that enemies need to divide to conquer. That is what's happening right now. Our flag is a symbol for all the men and woman who have died for this country. They have died for this country to give people the right to protest when they feel it is necessary. What are the NFL players doing by kneeling? They are giving all those men and woman the middle finger. If you stand for the national anthem it doesn't mean you agree with the president or even like him. By standing for the national anthem you are respecting and saying thank you to all those that did serve and are serving now. If people don't like this country then leave. Go some where else and play football and make millions of dollars. Oh wait, you cant.

  • Mark D., Nashville - 7 years ago

Support them, listen to their grievances, and help to end the part of the policing system in this country that mistreats, kills, and oversentences blacks, other minorities, and poor people.

  • Barbara - 7 years ago

I stood for the National Anthem since I was a child. Living on a Military Base, when they raised the flag, my young children & I got out of our car & stood up & hands over our hearts. This is AMERICA Like Merle Haggard sang in his song, if you don't like it leave it. go somewhere else & pull this stunt. If you plan on burning the U.S. Flag wrap yourself in it first. Only in America can you Disrespect the Flag, Our President(who has done more than the last one) He is trying to bring jobs back here so people can work & support their Families. I agree with President Trump, If you Disrespect the Flag & for what it stands for, you turn your back on the Men & Women who fought & still fighting for Our Freedom, WAKE UP. If you don't like the United States of America go somewhere else & see what you get away with. TRUST WE WILL NOT MISS YOU.

  • Poly - 7 years ago

NFL players have the right to kneel in protest during the national anthem, but I don't think that they should. I'm a brown Polynesian man who has some issues with injustice in the U.S. However, I don't disrespect or blame the whole country for the sins of the minority. More crime is committed against brown and black people by brown and black people. Do you see any of these players kneeling in protest over that?

  • USAF - 7 years ago

Trump should be looking into Why this is happening and try to understand what's going on. Has anyone asked a person of color that is also a vet? I am an Air Force Vet and I feel The NFL players are NOT showing disrespect to the flag or the country. Having speaking to non-white vets , I was told that they , their fathers and grandfathers are vets. They fought
wars for thier country because they loved thier country then returning home and called Nigger, threatened to be hung, see thier children harrassed and killed by the police only because of the color of the skin. People of color love this country and have gave thier life for this country. In return this country shows no respect for people of color. The NFL players are black men off the field and are subject to disrespect of all black men. Take a stand for something or fall for anything. Trump has called P.OW cowards, said chasing women w/o getting STD was his Vietnam.,ect... The NFl players quietly, protested the unjust of USA. They didn't do anything wrong. Some prayed while kneeing.. people need to listen to each other instead of name calling....Trump needs listen . Perharps if he listened he wouldn't have so many ex-wife. I mean that in a nice way. Just listen and resolve. Stop the name calling and anger

  • Betsy Carlson - 7 years ago

The only reason they protest is because they have a soapbox to stand on in front of millions of viewers each week. Just like Hollywood. You're all communists. Please leave the country. Life will go on without you.

  • R Stover - 7 years ago

Put the NFL players in the Marines.....try that then.

  • Phil Tiernon - 7 years ago

They are there to entertain not make political statements and whine about how oppressed they are with their million dollar salaries. They absolutely have a 1st amendment right to speak their mind but do it in the wrong place at the wrong time and consequences will be paid. They made it about Trump because of his statements which were spot on but they failed to realize that the attacked the American people especially those who have fought and died for that very freedom thar they are using to insult them and their loved ones. Unless there is some repercussion for the league and players who must also apologize to all who have given life and limb for the same flag they disrespect I am going to boycott every product and service tied to the NFL, this includes fox 2.
I will do my best to encourage everyone that I know to encourage everyone that they know to do the same.
The NFL should be ashamed of themselves, I am. They are an embarrassment to this country.

Just stay int thier locker rooms so the rest of us can honor our country in peace , and if your a fan and you want to protests come in after the national anthem , and I care don't if there only 2 people left honoring thier Country at lest they can do it in peace.

  • Steven - 7 years ago

No BLM protest is considered acceptable by the people who speak out against the players kneeling, for them, this is more about who is protesting, and for what, though they say it's about respect for the flag.
This is the most innocuous form of protest, taking only a couple minutes out of the show, and doesn't affect the game (which is the real reason people are watching in the first place) in any way. How many people watching at home are using the time during the anthem to get their snacks lined up, talking to their buddies, or getting comfy in their chair? How many are actually standing up and putting hand to heart?
Kneeling is a respectful gesture. They're not being disrespectful, making rude gestures or talking through the anthem, they are being respectful while making a point.

They should stand a post and see what a service man faces. The Military protects their right to protest. Our Flag and the National Anthem is inviolent. I believe this protest is wrong on so many levels. Let them serve on the front line and then they may have the right to protest. They protest from a position of safety. How easy to protest that you have not defended. We all bleed red. These NFL players think they are tough. They are facing tackles, not bullets. So easy for a man that has no skin in the game. They should understand that. Slave reparations is a joke and has no validity. Anyone that was a slave is long dead. Anyone that was an indentured servant is long dead. It is time to move on. Not seek money for money's sake. Grow the f*** up..

  • Hector - 7 years ago

The NFL's players protesting is an issue of right and wrong, what is justifiable and what isn't. The NFL can not support criminals because it is not right. That is my position. It becomes inequality for the innocent & earners. So, the NFL's stance is wrong. That is an entirely different issue, when compared to protesting the U.S anthem. That is between the NFL and Pres. Trump. Supporting criminals is a form of ludicracy, insanity, irrationale. Clinically, it is generically termed as "madness" that requires hospitalization. Thus, one becomes a hypocrite; like being a church goer and committing adultery, against ones wife. That is an example of mistrust. Right here & now, the goal is to create good citizens.

The U.S American flag not only symbolizes unionship but the individuality of a nation, when compared to foreign others. Yes, it includes your individuality as well. The Ensign most certainly recognizes those player's individual freedoms to play football and sit-out. No one is under any obligation to pledge to the American flag. Patriotism is a sentiment, feeling and a community ideal; it does not come and go, with the howling daily afternoon wind. Patriotism is not attained overnight. In other words, you are confused; if you say, "Well, today, I'll decide to be respectful but tomorrow or depending on the team, whom I play for, I'll change my loyalties later." Breaking it to 'ya, that's a double sided sword.

If you believe in the Ensign or government, then the ideas are existent and can work for you. You have to believe in it though. Humane characteristics such as respect, courtesy and honesty are virtuous - those are good qualities to have, unlike criminal ones. Make sure that you are able to distinguish the difference. Leading to, the innocent are just that, don't get society mixed-up, with drug dealers, robbers and other criminals, who go to jail dozens of times and continue. That is the drawn line, like the neutral zone at the line of scrimmage. Pres. Trump merely pointed out that, you, as a proud American football player, should or might want to "consider," being respectful to the Ensign. Ultimately, I think that the NFL's players should stand, during the U.S National Anthem, presentation of colors and pledge their allegiance but that is inert. Maybe they shouldn't though, if they strongly feel that way.

Would you want them pledging & taking an oath afterwards anyway? Can you trust them on the other side?

  • Scott - 7 years ago

They should find another time and way to protest they make millions of dollars throwing a fucking pig skin around to each other like a bunch of over grin kids. In there defense though they get alot of head injures so's they ain't all that book smart lol.but while their kneeling on one knee during the star spangle banner there are veterans with only one or no knee to stand on at all..fucken assholes wrong place wrong time if they don't like this country they can go try living in a crountry like. north korea were they would kill you and imprison your whole family for the disgrace of the country .Or spend so of the millions of dollar's they made here playing a FUCKING GAME. And move to any other country they want. What ere they gonna do next burn U.S. flags just because they don't like trump so what I don't care for him to much myself he's a man who shit's in fucking gold toilet for gods sake do you think he cares about he average guy and gal well I think not but anyway my opinion IT'S The WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME....they should be FIRED LOL..

  • Scott Sarver - 7 years ago

This is pure disrespect towards our country, period. This country has been too lenient when it comes to "Freedom of Speech" and it has been abused for far too long. We should not provide the freedoms of the United States of America to individuals who insist on disrespecting the country. These people are hiding behind the very thing they're protesting. How ridiculous is that? If you want to protest the United States of America, the best way to do that is to give up your citizenship and take steps that non-citizens have to take in order to reside in this country. Down the road, if you feel that this country has made changes that are acceptable to you, then apply for citizenship again. Let's see just how disgusted you are to be a part of this country. That's what I thought...

  • Jennifer - 7 years ago

This not freedom of speech. The first amendment is specifically directed at the government. I cannot take a knee at my job. I can't even give a view that may be different from another employee or our client.

I believe that these individuals are ignorant to the reality of the opportunities this country has afforded them and that there is no other country that gives their people the opportunity and freedoms that the United States of America does.
The NFL coaches and management should be ashamed of their lack of integrity and back bone.

  • Robert - 7 years ago

Communists! If you can't support your country & president. Get out of our country

  • Snowski4fun - 7 years ago

My suggestion is this. Let's start every sporting event, tv awards show, etc with 5 minutes of peaceful protest. Those that want to watch it can, and those that don't can turn the game on when it starts. For those few people that can actually go to a pro sports event, go grab another beer.

  • Jay Dunsing - 7 years ago

The NFL is totally disrespecting the country. Listen to conservative talk radio for the truth about politics!! Liberals aargh.

  • Rick - 7 years ago

My days of watching the NFL are over. As a person that has served our country for over 35 year between the military and as a law enforcement officer I can no longer support an organization that allows its people to disrespect our country. I wake up everyday putting on a uniform to ensure people such as this are provided the freedom and liberties to exercises there rights as Americans. There is one right that every patriotic American should never use as a political tools and that is there right to disgrace our countries flag and national anthem. Find another way to excercise your rights. While your taking a knee there is a soldier somewhere talking a bullet for your freedom or a law enforcement officers helping out a family that needed rescued after a National disaster.

  • Don Smith - 7 years ago

Taking a knee during the National Anthem not only is disrespectful of our country and our military but is ultimately a stand that says, that person on his knee does not have the back of our police officers out in the streets everyday facing life and death situations. If a person feels strongly that a change needs to take place in the rank and file of our police departments, quit your million dollar football gig and put on a police uniform. I believe the departments would welcome fine and upstanding citizens such as our football players have proven themselves to be with open arms. Personally, I am sick of people whose job it is to primarily provide entertainment shoving their thoughts and ideas on me, especially when they are taking my hard earned money. What are we suppose to do? Say "thank you very much" as they trample on our values? I guess we could all demand refunds of tickets already purchased, we can turn off our TVs, we can no longer purchase the products of the primary sponsors of the NFL, we can stand by and let a sport that is enjoyed by many be diminished and controlled by the wants and desires of the few, or we can say that enough is enough. The NFL's lack of leadership started this firestorm. They have had over a year to get their act together, yet every week there it is in our face. And today yet another police officer is shot while doing their job. Another child is killed in some gang war. Where is the outrage? Where is the hue and cry? It has become the norm to sensationalize those events that support a specific agenda and turn a blind eye to the other side of the coin. And, surprise, surprise, there is ALWAYS the other side of the coin. Protest if your heart tells you to do so, provide details that support your cause, inspire others to join, but do it on your own time and don't disrespect our flag, National Anthem or country in the process. You have the right to present your views and opinions, I have the right to listen or turn away. After a ticket has been purchased and the fan is sitting in their chair, the NFL is essentially forcing the fans to make a decision, should we stay and watch the game or should we turn our backs on the players and walk away.

  • Pete - 7 years ago

I feel that if they can not stand and honer the national anthem and all its history, and troops that defend it, if they feel they need to disrespect the nation on national TV in front of all their fans, they will not need to be punished. The fans will get tired of their actions and turn their backs to them as they come on the field, and if it continues the ones that do show up to the game will probably get up and leave after the anthem is played. They will punish themselves. they are more than welcome to kneel in front of our troops if they feel they need to make a statement and tell them to their face that they do not care that they are dying so they can play football. The national anthem is not the proper time to make a political statement unless you are not a US citizen and have no respect for our history. History teaches us mistakes and how to move on a better path not to just tear it down and forget the past,

  • Mike L - 7 years ago

I think it is disgusting and an embarrassment to this country. If they want to protest something do it on their own time. I hope people quit going to NFL games and don't watch them. I know my family and a lot of my friends will not watch another NFL game.

  • Kate - 7 years ago

While I abhor the action they have taken, I have to defend their right to do so. POT US should keep his mouth shut seeing as he was a draft dodger of the first order.

  • anne - 7 years ago

One of the things our servicemen and women fight for is their freedom to express their opinions; how many of you would be brave enough to PEACEFULLY proclaim your opinions in public, on a national stage? They aren't protesting the flag anyway! Besides, you all love it when Tim Tebow takes a knee in prayer!

  • Mike - 7 years ago

I think it's a disgrace and embarrassing for this country not one NFL game was watched at my house yesterday or will be… I dropped off four boxes of NFL posters jerseys and paraphernalia of Redskin stuff over 35 years at the Goodwill today I'm done.. The millionaires that are lucky enough to play a game and get paid for it only in America have crossed the line

  • KBitt - 7 years ago

If they want to take a stand (kneeling) saying they're protesting for a specific cause they need to back it up by actually doing something to make a difference. Volunteering to help out with their cause or donating money. All they do is take a knee or decide not to participate at all. What else are they doing to help their cause? Seems like its just the popular thing to do to get attention but its not making a difference.

  • Len Young - 7 years ago

I have a cousin buried in OK, who died in the Battle of the Bulge. I have an uncle buried in the Philippines who died during the fighting there in WWII. I have another uncle who was seriously wounded during the Korean War, and lay in a hospital in Japan for several months, with our family not knowing if he was alive or not. A nurse wrote a letter home to my aunt to tell her he was still alive. He came home several weeks later to be with his family. His son was born shortly after he was missing in action. I am very proud of all of them and the sacrifices they made for our freedom. They helped provide a place of freedom where these spoiled brats could be paid millions (notice I didn't say EARNED). If you won't appreciate what others have done for you, go somewhere and find that place where you can be thankful. Sure American has its problems, but search the world over and find a better place. Tell me where it is when you do. I won't hold my breathe, because it won't happen. They are the same mind of those marching in the streets of St. Louis. This is a generation where everyone gets a trophy, and they wind up with a real warped perspective of what reality is. EVERYBODY has problems. EVERYBODY has times when the boss didn't treat you right, or somebody stepped on you. It is called LIFE. Grow up. Get used to it. Life is hard and you don't always get your way. Put your big boy pants on and press on anyway. We all see things we don't like in our society, but most of us don't have time to say anything about it. You see, we have to get up and go to work in the morning, or open our businesses in the morning. You should try it. It is much more fulfilling than going to school forever on student loans, and using a taxpayer funded cell phone to play GOTCHA with police officers who lay their life on the line everyday to keep your sorry keister safe.

  • Military Veteran - 7 years ago

When fighting a war the enemy does not see black or white it sees and American and shoots to kill.... Lets stop killing ourselves and treat each other as Americans. And do not disrespect the Anthem and Flag that all of OUR forefathers and young men and women today have fought and paid the ultilmate sacrifice for by not standing and showing your respect and gratitude. If your not happy with that I suggest you grab a weapon and stand guard for a couple of years to understand that.

  • Alex Konczal - 7 years ago

If it's not about the veterans and those who served and what the US is built on then why protest during the national anthem? By protesting during the anthem the players are treading on everything which the flag and anthem represents. How about they doesn't their billions of dollars and actually do something productive. Keep football and politics separate. This nation is already divided enough. Things such as football are one of the things that people go to to escape politics.

  • brendon - 7 years ago

The problem with this is that people think the players are protesting the American Flag, that's not the case. The players are protesting against racial injustices. Peacefully protesting is the first amendment and cannot be taken away. If owners want to fire a player for peacefully protesting against racial injustices then that player shouldn't be on that team.

  • Dot Brown - 7 years ago

If they can't take three minutes to honor our flag and all it represents then I doggone sure can't take three hours to watch these overpaid cretons run up and down a cowpasture. I am done with the NFL.

  • sandy - 7 years ago

Protesting is the right way to go about injustice. Just not during the National Anthem. Thousands of white people have died for the freedom of blacks. While that song is playing we all should be grateful and give thanks, and respect what it stands for.

  • Rachel - 7 years ago

I think this all a ridiculous attempt to divide us more and more. That's all politics is anymore. It's disgusting. Who cares what these stupid Jughead millionaires think? Not me.

  • Carol Clopton - 7 years ago

This is not the time or the place for such activity. Why wasn't there a voting choice for: protest if they will but NOT during the game??? Instead people should find CONSTRUCTIVE ways to make things they don't like better and to encourage others to as well AND encourage those doing the RIGHT things! The news is WAY too focused on enflaming people through constant coverage of this. News is so one sided these days I am seriously considering not watching or listening to it at all any more!

To not Honor those who commit to serve and protect our country, current and past, especially the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice is a disgrace upon our Country. NFL players have no idea what it is to serve for your country, with the exception of a very few. Their blood is not red, but yellow and thin like the cowards they are. I think players should be drafted in the military first before being drafted by the NFL, then maybe they will understand what the flag stands for.

  • FJC - 7 years ago

I find it incredible that the only way these folks can find to protest is by disrespecting the men and women who have served our country so that we can be free. The football players have reaped the benefits of the freedom to pursue their dreams on and off the field. ALL lives matter...I would like to see how these players involved in an incredibly violent game would react to working in an environment that our police and firefighters do on a daily basis. Walk in their shoes and tell me the NFL players would do better. They are an inherently violent group (with many issues related to off the field transgressions). The NFL players and owners who "protest" are a hypocritical group at best. I am boycotting the NFL along with my entire neighborhood. That's my protest.

  • Rickey Partridge - 7 years ago

I think that they should respect the fallen men and womer that has fought and died so that they are able to just play a game and make millions. It's a real shame that they have forgot why they have the freedom to do this. They fans need to walk out one these players after the national anthem is finished, just for a while. I know that the fans will have a greater protest against this awful show of disrespect for OUR NATION which is free because if our military's men and women.

  • chel - 7 years ago

I have no issue with them kneeling i see it as respect we kneel before god as a sign of respect why would kneeling before our flag not be a sign of it and they are not sitting as they had been but i would much rather see them all retire back to their locker rooms now as they use to and get out of this political mess. This did not explode until the POTUS called them SOB and then it exploded and rightfully so.... did he not expect the teammates to stand up for their teammates? I think its time now to move forward either make them stand as it is in the rule book or make them all stay in the locker rooms till its played and over. Though I do thing any team that entered into this protest while I back them as its their right to free speech should still pay a penalty but that penalty should not be paid to the nfl it should be paid to the local boys and girls clubs of america.

  • Bigshow26 - 7 years ago

I don't see how kneeling during anthem disrespecting flag and country could be viewed as peaceful protest against our president. This freedom of speech should work both ways pos should be allowed his opinion too. Think the left has took this freedom to far and they're the ones dividing the people

  • Jim Bender - 7 years ago

As a Marine Corps combat veteran, the American flag is very special to me and our national anthem always puts a lump in my throat. The men and women who were killed to ensure that our heritage and our freedoms are protected, are honored every time the national anthem is played. To willing demonstrate disrespect to those heroes by showing disrespect to our flag and our anthem is treason.

  • Buck Redstone - 7 years ago

The kneeling players during the national anthem are saying to US, America is racist and cops purposefully shoot blacks to kill them. Both of these are Big "progressive" Lies. If this were true then we wouldn't need to control who wants to come in nor build a wall to protect US from outsiders who wish US ill. Remember twice as many whites are killed by cops than blacks. ESPN and the NFL have gone totally PC (cultural Marxism) and wacko liberal and they are the ones who have politicized pro-football. Now NFL and NBA (watch out baseball!) 'I ain't got no time for that'! Sponsors of these wasteful and useless games are next on the list!

  • Suzanne Mann - 7 years ago

These players are taking advantage of their fame to send their message. That should NOT be allowed by the NFL or any other professional or college sport. Have respect for EVERYONE who watches the game. You may have an opinion, but you should keep it to yourself. A person in a professional career may not support every religion or belief of the people they serve but you must respect it. Shame on those athletes.

  • Lisa S. - 7 years ago

Divide and conquer. These protesters divide and our enemies conquer. While law enforcement, first responders, and military are putting their lives on the line fighting for our right to speak, these protesters are abusing their liberties thinking they can just be as loud and obnoxious as they want like they rest of us really want to hear them. It tears us down. Does nothing to build us up as a united nation. United we stand, divided we fall. I think its a horribly negative way to start any activity. The kneelers are accomplishing nothing positive, and I refuse to watch anything that so utterly disrespects the very people who gave them that right. I think it's disgusting!

  • Suzanne Mann - 7 years ago

We have stood for the national anthem for as long as I can remember.

  • Laura Mallory - 7 years ago

I don't give à damn about their Code of Conduct! I served this country for 28 years and watched and saw my friends and troops for these ignorant assholes to have freedom of speech!! As a survivor of 9/11, and many other things, I am offended by them and anyone else who displays such disrespect for the flag and our troops.will not watch the NFL, NBA, or any sports other than college football for the rest of my life. FUCK all of them.

  • Brian - 7 years ago

Pathetic that this much disrespect is given to our flag and anthem from these punk-ass "kids"! Yes kids..They may seem larger than life on the field, but the fact is, these are the same kids that have grown up in the "participation award" era. All I can say, is my grandpa was a WW2 vet and us older folk know, you disrespect anyone, especially our country, I don't know about you guys, but I would have literally got my head knocked off by him. These "protesters" are taking all aggressions out on the innocent flag and anthem, which hasn't done anything to them. The only thing I see about all these guys kneeling is that there are more and more disrespectful pieces of shit out there than first realized! And Trump saying what he did, maybe shouldnt have made a spectical of it, but he's only saying what everyone else is thinking. Now you tell me, you hear people at work or elsewhere daily bashing these kneeling scumbags..They just dont make it a public soapbox. And the fist up in the air?? I always thought that meant "white power", eh? Also is there something more political going on here?? You dont see tom brady, matt ryan, phil rivers or any of the 100 million $ stars kneeling and disrespecting. And Im sooi tired of everyone supporting this (terry bradshaw for one), touting the "they have a right, thats what i love about this country freedom of expression ammendment bullshit!! Stop hiding and quoting their "rights". Back in the "respectful" era , this shit wouldnt go down. I respected jerry jones until tonight. I thought he had the hammer down on his team. And these guys are saddened that people booed them??well boohoo!! Reap what you sow..Also, how much time and money are these players donating to the cause?? Or are they just using the "free" tv time to try and prove a point?? Now i wouldnt consider myself super-patriotic, nor do i think about it daily, but when the time cones for a national anthem or any time arises to pay respect, I do it. Thats what I was taught and thats what i have taught my kids. And Villanueva on the steelers, i commend you my friend..I commend you..Your a true American. Again players in the NFL, You are NOT proving any point about kneeling!!! If anything, you are spreading more hate because people are disliking you spoiled brats more and more daily. Now, all this crap doesnt keep me from watching football on sunday, i love the game and will always watch, but this is getting boring.

  • The Golden Rule - 7 years ago

This is what the NFL is forgetting too. If I walked up to group of certain people and not knowing that I was doing or being rude, disrespectful, hateful, etc. if those people made me realize that I was doing something to offend them or wrong to their type. It would be up to me to apologize and correct it. If I continued then I would be in a way worse position. I can't use those saying or actions that offended a group becuase I wanted to get back at someone else. Wrong is wrong! Well, that's what they are doing. They keep ignoring the people that it's hurting'or affecting.
The NFL is supporting it while millions of people are telling them to stop being disrespectful. They are basically saying, who cares about you. We will fight as dirty as we want. We are the rich and powerful. If we do it then it has to be right. They are saying they only care about their ways. They could pick a hundred different ways to take on the President or other views. They want to say I don't care about America because it's so bad here. They want to show disrespect and that they don't care about Americans. They say they don't mean to be towards the military and the anthem. It's about Trump. Well, actions speak louder than words. Then why do it in a style that one wrong player was doing it in a poor manner and aggravating most of us last year for it. The NFL understood last year because patriotic people spoke up then this year, the NFL took it as a good idea. It sounds like you know what you are doing.
I'm not standing up for the President. I'm standing up for Americans and this country. Which the NFL doesn't care about. It's about Money. They know Americans won't give up football and won't stand up to them. Americans just voice opinions, We don't rally and really change things. Well, not enough to hurt them. The NFL really just cares about themselves. They live in their own universe because they have all the people who can barely afford to live, just handing their money to them. Not all but most. It sucks to have to be so PC all the time.

  • Matt - 7 years ago

The NFL has been saying support our troops for years (which turns out to be a big fat lie) then shits on the country, its flag, and the troops whom have fought and died to protect these ungrateful assholes and their freedoms. They have this much disdain for the country that has made them millionaires, and the people who used to look up to them and loved them. I say they should get out of this great country if they don't like it- we don't want them. The NFL should change it's name too as they don't want to pay homage to the nation that has put them on a pedestal. The troops should not participate in any of thier events, no more fighter planes flying over head. The police should no longer do security at their games any more as they are hated by the majority of these scumbags. Life long fans are burning their season tickets and jerseys. I personally will not watch any more games,or buy any of thier merchandise. Fuck the NFL, and Fuck Roger Goodell and the ungreatfull players and coaches for ruining one of the things I truly loved in life.

  • Steven Davidson - 7 years ago

I am disgusted with this whole thing. The NFL, the majority of the teams, and the majority of the players are showing nothing but disrespect for our country. Teaching the youth that its ok to disrespect our country and everything our nation stands for and was built on. This whole thing spawns from allowing society in general be disrespectful to each other and hide behind "freedom of speech" which has been taken completely out of context. Because of this, among other things, this country is becoming a divided nation. Everything our four fathers worked so hard to establish, in order to make this country the best country, is being torn apart. I am deeply saddened and fearful for our future.

  • Fred Pope - 7 years ago

Separate and apart from President Trump's inappropriate comments, I find the protests during the National Anthem and the presentation of the Nation's Flag a disrespectful and dishonorable act. I agree with the right of freedom of speech/expression and these protests clearly fall under this right. However, just because you have a right to do something doesn't always make it the right thing to do. I have listened to the explanation of several NFL players & owners who say their message isn't about the National Anthem, Flag or our Veterans. It was their choice to act in a disrespectful manner during the National Anthem and the presentation of our Nation's Flag. This is disrespectful to all of our veterans and what our Flag stands for. Maybe the NFL should discontinue presenting the National Anthem and our Nation's Flag at games if the players can not behave respectfully. I can exercise the right not to view or attend NFL games that support this type of conduct. Ironically, this has been a divisive manner/choice of protest for a moral and just cause.

  • Nate - 7 years ago

I think what they are doing is pointless. If they really want to help each of them give just 1 percent of they’re millions and solve the real problem which is poverty, broken homes, drugs, etc. Racism is the same as it ever was. It will always be there but I think it’s actually better. People I know, police included, have gone out of their way to be respectful and fair but it’s never enough. Even special treatment is enough. It’s liberal bs. Brainwashing. So these rich athletes and celebs should give the smallest percentage of their own money and solve the problem not depend on the gov. Lebron alone could solve the problems with a third of his money. Does he need all that. Don’t think so. Actions speak louder. Liberal craziness. I know a lot of rich conservatives who are just as bad if not worse so it’s both sides

  • Scott - 7 years ago

I will not support or patronize any business or corporation that supports the "take a knee" movement. If you (Corporate America) are advertising during NFL games where this misguided behavior is being displayed, I will not support or buy your products. I encourage everyone to do the same.

  • Day Rice - 7 years ago

If I was to do this at my job, I would have a warning that would threaten my job security. These football players are WORKING!! Take what you feel / your freedom of speech somewhere else and not at work!

  • Donna Rubie - 7 years ago

I have a few questions for the NFL football players who are protesting police injustice by refusing to stand for the National Anthem. What have YOU done to alleviate poverty and crime in any predominantly black community? Have you spoken to students at school assemblies about turning their backs to drugs and crime and studying to get a good education? Have you funded an after school community center where young people can play basketball and shoot pool or get help with homework? Have you encouraged them to be helpful to others and maybe attend a church? Have you arranged internships for promising underprivileged youth? Have you advised teenagers to be respectful if they want to be respected? You have succeeded in lifting yourself from lesser circumstances, good for you! Now have a great opportunity and obligation to influence those who look up to you. If you want to see attitudes change , keep in mind, it all begins with YOU

  • Melissa - 7 years ago

I have lost family and friends to war. They were fighting for America and for our flag. It kills me to see people disrespect what I lost family to. There are other ways to protest but not like this!

  • AP Leith - 7 years ago

The NFL is a business and as such the employees (e.g., players, coaches, staff) have agreed to follow their code of conduct ("CoC"). As there is no clause in the CoC that references how a player acts during the National Anthem, there is no ground for punishment. Therefore, it is up to the NFL to address this internally as they deem appropriate and then, if they so choose, affect the necessary changes in regulation.

  • LP - 7 years ago

NFL RULES!! The specific rule pertaining to the National Anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league rulebook. It states: "The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players an coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses."

  • James - 7 years ago

I don't think they really understand how disrespectful they are being. They have a right to protest but, during the National Anthem is not the time or place for it. Maybe they should get out into the urban community's and do some good with that NFL pay check.

  • Jr - 7 years ago

Kneeling during the flag and anthem is a disrespect act towards past present and future service members ... it's ok to protest but if your at work ur sole focuse should be your job and not what you dislike protesting should be done on your time and off the field

  • V grose - 7 years ago

Ashamed. No one can protest at work, on the clock, you would be fired. Fall in our house is always scheduled around football. No more, We are protesting the players protesting, pay the military what they are worth to keep us safe. Have no use for this crap, protest on your own time

  • Tony Z - 7 years ago

They have every RIGHT to protest, which is exactly why they should be standing and thanking those who gave them the right. NFL is on the low priority list in my home.

  • Phil Hartsell - 7 years ago

I believe the kneeling players are acting like spoiled rich kids and disrespecting our country, flag, and veterans and current service men and women! If you want to be a politician do it on your own time. If they really care tell them to give up that money they get for being enterainors and do something good for the citizens of the USA!

  • Keith - 7 years ago

I could care less. I never understood why the anthem was part of sports events anyway

  • Sherry - 7 years ago

I have been a fan of the NFL for over 35 years. I have purchased the garb, purchased the tickets, and attended the games. I truly truly LOVE the sport and athleticism. But, I will NO LONGER be watching the NFL. Although I believe in the right to free speech, I believe it should be done on their own time.

My father, my step-father, my son have all served this great country with their military service. My cousin gave his life for this country!!! For someone to not pay their respects to our flag is just incomprehensible to me!!! I am tired of my money going to support these overpaid athletes! They need to get a real job!!! I guarantee I couldn't run around spouting my political agenda at my place of employment and still have a job!

  • Marc - 7 years ago

The players have chosen the wrong venue for their childish actions. They are millionaires and assume they are loved. I will not support the NFL or their sponsors. I don't care about the babies in the NBA. They are just following the bastards cause they don't have minds of their own.

  • Marc - 7 years ago

The players have chosen the wrong venue for their childish actions. They are millionaires and assume they are loved. I will not support the NFL or their sponsors. I don't care about the babies in the NBA. Tyler are just following the bastards cause they don't have minds of their own.

  • David F March - 7 years ago

Several points...1) With each divisive tweet of Mr Trump's, he shows his ignorance of and to the 1st Amendment, 2) What percentage of Americans actually know why the players are kneeling in the first place? It is not a gesture regarding aliegience, it's a statement about social and justice I equality, 3) Rather then complain, take the time to listen and understand their experience. Fnally, it is as clear as a cloudless day that Mr Trump is a Jackass and a Fool.

  • Sarah - 7 years ago

It makes me sad to see our country divided. So torn we fight over OUR flag.
The problem is this isn't fixing the problems, it is only creating bigger problems. I would love to see our issues resolved, but unfortunately, all I see and hear creates a bigger division. We are better than this as a nation. I would love to see us put our heads together and come up with a real solution that works rather than opening the flood gates wider.

  • Mike Gibson - 7 years ago

I am a Veteran and had friends die for the flag. If people want to protest police brutality they should protest the police not the flag. That is totally disrespectful to the veterans who died for the flag and the right to protest

  • Carl Wenskay - 7 years ago

It is their right to protest but to not stand for the flag or the anthem goes right thru me.
They could protest on their own time and in different way.
I am thru with watching any sport or entertainer that doesn't support our flag and the principles behind it! My choice!

  • Don - 7 years ago

I believe that two groups of people are at fault here. First the individual who kneeled caused a reaction to his kneeling. I agree that individuals have a right to protest in a peaceful manner. I also believe that NFL players are representing their team and their fans and that as such they need to protest in a manner which is not going to be offensive to the team and to their fan base. Kneeling during the National Anthem does show as an offensive action to the team and the fan base. Therefore the players should not kneel during the National Anthem. If you can not stand during the anthem, then do not be present. Now then Trump and his rhetoric about the team is just as offensive and his comments again have proven to present with a backlash which I am dang sure he meant to happen. Trump making statements that he is a defender of the services that our military provides and has provided is a bunch of malarkey as he has himself derided the veterans of the services. I am a veteran myself and I do believe in the right of our citizens to protest in a peaceful manner and no I do not believe that an individual should be fired for protesting and believe that Trump has again overstepped himself

  • Mike webb - 7 years ago

This high paid players disrespected the fans the flag their country. God country core or self. They are not to do anything that disrespects their team or get fined suspend by the NFL. What was that. They slapped our flag and country. Fired.

  • Brenda Trail - 7 years ago

They have every right to protest but they should not be doing it while they are being paid to do a job..

  • Tracy - 7 years ago

I think making a peaceful protest is commendable, but the platform for their protest should not happen while they are working on the job. A press conference or TV slot, full of NFL players, to address issues, would go a long way towards making actual progress.

  • Ydnar - 7 years ago

I think if it bothers them that much they should donate their salary to a cause trying to fix the problem.
Trump is working for free. You would think the NFLwould do whater they had to to fill the stands, not deter people from buying tickets!

  • Vincent Giordano - 7 years ago

As a current active duty military member, it actually makes me feel good that we live in a country that allows us the right to protest peacefully. There are a lot of countries that you would get thrown in jail, or even worse, killed for such a small protest. Military members took an oath on the day the joined to support and defend the Constitution. These "protests" are clearly protected by it and that's what makes America great. Please don't use the military to justify your ignorance.

  • Karla - 7 years ago

Everyone has the right to protest but this is not the time or place. It is didrespectful to our flag, our country and those who serve or have served to protect our rights. Instead of being a positive role model, they are teaching kids that in order to make positive changes you have to do something disrespectful. The exampke presented is negative and tears down the very foundation that they are supposedly trying to build. There are many other opportunities for people, especially those with fame and money, to address issues of concern if they are truly committed to change, and not just in it for the press coverage. Shame in all of you and the media that encourages it by plastering it on tv 24/7. I for one turned sports off.

  • Shawn Sanders - 7 years ago

As a United States veteran I am officially done with the NFL! I've been a Raiders fan from the late 70s. Been waiting for years for them to have a decent competitive team again. They finally have it and they ruin it with their kneeling protest their disgrace to our flag our country in our service members.

  • tasha - 7 years ago

This vote is another example how they are unjust. I sat here at work had 10 of my co workers to vote that it is peaceful. The numbers decrease instead of increase. NFL, NBA continue to do what is right in your heart. A family that prays together stays together. Keep standing what is right for you not what number 45 thinks. He can't get alone with nobody.

  • Joe - 7 years ago

They must think its just some song about a piece of cloth, nothing more! Give them a 1 way ticket to the country of their choice. Just don't come back! If you want to protest something, that's your right. Just not while we're honoring our military and country!

  • J - 7 years ago

I feel like the media is focusing on issues that while serious are not really the problem. There is no clear cut decision in this matter because there are several instances where "civil liberties" are infringed. However of you go back to our founding documents and actually read them to understand you will have a better grasp on what we are entitled to and what are merely privelages we have because of the country we live in. I think if people actually took time to educate themselves before making rash decisions the world would be a better place. How can we go from one week uniting in tragedy to complete disregard of each other.
