People are free to do what they want. I don't agree with kneeling but I'm over hearing about it. Cover some real news.

Everyone should keep in mind that these website polls are not scientific polls conducted on a randomly selected sample. They are always skewed toward the views of those who happen to frequent the site and have little scientific merit in terms of giving a realistic picture of how the country really feels.

  • Al - 7 years ago

I support their constitutional right to protest and do find it disrespectful. I will always stand. That doesn't change my view of their constitutional rigjts to peacefully protest.

  • Mike - 7 years ago

I am one that Irma hit directly and yes I am concerned about people not standing for the anthem. We can rebuild our homes and replace our lost or damaged items, but god help our country and the direction we are heading!

  • Ashley - 7 years ago

I understand that they have the right to protest. But it's the national anthem. People fight for us. If we didn't have those people those football players wouldn't have the lives they have today. If they want something to change they need to look in the mirror first. They are getting paid to play football. If they want to protest then don't play the game.

  • Mike - 7 years ago

It's absolute disrespect for the many soldiers who fought and lost their lives to protect our country and our freedom. I would love to see a poll asking these players what it is the feel they are protesting for. I feel Many are jumping on the wagon for attention while in the spotlight and others are just flat out afraid to literally STAND against them and for what they believe in. If they did they would likely face ridicule and be shunned because the NFL is to afraid to enforce their own rule and they are cowardly supporting this movement which has opened the door for what we are seeing.

They should be ashamed of what is happening around the NFL, I know I am. This is not unity, this is dividing our country even more than it already is. Watch as NFL ratings drop, at least for now I can fall back on college, they are not making millions yet so hopefully they will stay humble and respect our country. Go Trump, I love the passion for our country and this is why I voted for you!!!

if you don't stand for your nation who will stand with you , stupid act even you do not like Trump

There are people IN THIS COUNTRY that are trying to survive Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and people, including the President of the United States, are outraged about whether or not people are standing for the anthem?

  • joel - 7 years ago

It is quit obvious the ones that stand up are the ones that have fought for their country. The ones kneeling are not setting a good example for there piers that enjoy the same sport and showing lack of respect for our country the USA. They do get paid to do a job (overpaid), maybe the ones that have not served our country need to so and learn what respect is, understanding values and showing support for our freedom. As of know the teams that show this kind of behavior I do not support and will not waste my time watching them on TV

  • M. LYNETTE COOK-DUNHAM - 7 years ago

Peaceful protests should be done on their own time, not while on the job at their work place. It should be done In a respectful manner, one that does not disparage there country, it's flag, or its military.

I understand people being upset with the NFL players who kneel during the national anthem. They claim that this is a direct act against those who have served our country. We must realize that this is simply not the case. The NFL players are kneeling because they refused to honor a government who is putting people in the positions that they are in so it is necessary for them to go to war. Please do not misunderstand me and think that I do not honor those who have served, because without those people I would not have the right to express this opinion. Our military has done wonderful things in the past, including liberating countries from poverty, dictatorship, and making sure that every human right is protected. But when you have a government that puts thousands of American lives at risk for the sake of Natural Resources, then there's an issue. At the core of it all, greed runs this country.

  • Rick Hanson - 7 years ago

NFL players are paid entertainers no different from actors and musicians. They are entitled to their views and the privilege to voice them, OFF THE FIELD AND OFF THE STAGE. They should take two knees and Thank the Good Lord they live in a country that allows them the opportunity to thrive, succeed, and prosper. I will not view another pro football game until the NFL gets these prima donna, ungrateful, players under control during the game.

  • Jimmy - 7 years ago

Bunch of crybabies . Maybe we should make them put on a real uniform and go serve our country putting their lives in danger. The real heros are wearing uniforms it's not only on Sunday. Go cry in your multimillion dollar homes that this horrible country gave you

  • Buddy Hall - 7 years ago

They actually do not have the right to protest at work. If the guy who pays the bills allows it, that's fine for the player who wishes to be disrespectful. Not if, but when, the dollars stop coming in, that owner is going to have a change of heart. I understand what they are protesting for. Many of them have criminal convictions, so they probably have found themselves on the wrong end of a police baton. My heart bleeds for them. But there are a million other ways to protest, and at work, in front of millions of fans who pay your salary, isn't one of them.

  • Ralph McGlenn - 7 years ago

As others have stated, there is a time and place for everything. But regardless of how you feel about the issues being protested, why would the players disrespect those that died insuring they still have the right to protest? How long does it take to stand and honor the Anthem and the Flag? Three or four minutes? And by honoring those things, you are actually honoring those that shed blood for this country. To not stand is an act of total disrespect for those people of all races and religions that died to guarantee our Freedom and Rights, which includes protests. Those Patriots gave far more than three or four minutes.

Protesting is a sacred and American Right. But out of a 24 hour day, can we not honor those that sacrificed for the rest of us? That still leaves 1436 minutes in the day to do other things, including protesting.

  • Mary Barber - 7 years ago

I think they have made their point however nebulous it may be. I just recently understood that the protest was about police brutality against young blacks. I think if they, as NFL players, established a police boys and girls club with an emphasis on competitive sports and working to eliminate distrust between police and young people, I would have better respect for them. Right now I have no respect for people who do not rise for the flag. I was in the Army Medical Specialist Corps during Vietnam and saw my fair share of "divisive" behaviors toward uniformed people sworn to protect and serve. Pushes all the wrong buttons in this white old lady.

  • Dave - 7 years ago

It is the wrong time and place to protest. If I believe in what they protest doesn't matter. However, when the military presents the US flag and you are asked to rise by those presenting the colors, you are now dishonoring and disrespecting those that are presenting and what they are presenting. They did nothing wrong and should not be dishonored by doing the exact opposite of what they ask. If a person is handicapped and unable to do so, it is understood. Doing the same in England and standing for God Bless the Queen whom we fought for independence from is a disregard for history. I don't believe many believe they are disrespecting one group for their cause. However, it is in complete opposition to their request for you to stand while they present because you don't agree with some other thing going on in the world completely unrelated.

Getting fired from a football team does not limit free speech. You are free to speak and demonstrate. An owner is also free to support or fire your actions while employed and wearing their uniform on their field on their dollar.

Once again this is about wrong time and place if I agree with what they are selling or not.

I think that the choices for the survey are not valid for a survey and act as inflamitory topics for Fox 2 to capitalize on. I don’t feel they should kneel it’s disrespectful. I think they should not be punished in a traditional sense because that’s not my place to decide. They will feel the punishment from their fans. It will eventually hit them in the pocket book based on contracts, endorsements etc. I think the nfl is afraid to take a stand because they are a business, eventually they will feel it also. Life is full of choices. I like football and enjoy that time watching a game. I choose not to watch right now. I don’t want to be involved in the conversations at work. I will support people that have the same views as I do. Maybe it’s tome for some baseball and high school and college football

  • David - 7 years ago

    They should be fired!

  • David - 7 years ago

    They should be fired!????

  • Nancy Hempen - 7 years ago

They are paid to do a job, yes boys you are working not just playing a sport. I am your customer that is paying to watch you playing the game and the one buying your merchandise. Don't offend me with your disrespectful display of your feelings against my Flag, my America or my President. If I did that on my job I would be fired. Express your opinions on your own time and do it in a constructive manner that doesn't disrespect the country that is providing you a wealthy income.

  • Rick - 7 years ago

Sandra, just because it's in the rule book doesn't mean they will abide by it. Just ask the citizen's of St. Louis that had their Rams stolen from them. The NFL didn't follow their own rules and let the team move. Roger Goodell is a useless commissioner!

  • Rick - 7 years ago

The National Anthem has been played before sporting events for decades...if they don't want to stand, move to a country that doesn't play the National Anthem. This country is giving them the opportunity to make millions of dollars playing a sport - go move to another country and see if you get the same deal there!

  • Jeffrey - 7 years ago

I support these athletes decision to speak out, but SPEAK, don't take a knee and turn your back to the flag. Maybe these "professionals" should go to a Military funeral and see that flag folded by REAL PROFESSIONALS, and then they might understand what that flag really means. I challenge any NFL player taking a knee to go to one of those funerals, or go to a Military installation in the morning when the flag is being raised, and take a knee. Watch the reaction you get from those who defend this country. I would even accept an NFL player going to a Military ceremony where the National Anthem is being played and take a knee. They wont, because they even know what they are doing is disrespectful and a disgrace to the very name they have on the back of their jersey.

  • DEAN SHOUP - 7 years ago

i think they should be fired & if they are not punished i will not watch another game &this comes from a football family

  • Philip - 7 years ago

It don't have to be in the rule book it's jus America s way or sign, stand for land of the free and home of the brave....

  • Tim - 7 years ago

Listen, they are employees, and if the boss allows it, we have no say in it. Except in how we support them, or don't. This week was different because they were responding to the president's bait. Fine, but you have a lot of 6 figure contracts you are still paying from the 90's forward, and if we stop paying ridiculous ticket prices and $8 beer prices,Or we stop buying their endorsed products or jerseys, there is a bankruptcy coming your way if you don't play to your audience. All these people playing today for the money to come for the next 20-30 years, I am willing to bet they are never going to see most of it!

  • Marlene Kolbe - 7 years ago

If showing respect for the anthem is part of a contract signed by the player then the player is making new rules at the expense of the iwner and advertisers. The American flag does not represent Trump, or Blacks, or Whites, it represents the best country in the world .... made that was by the sacrifice of those who have lived and died by the flag. Look at tne lyrics of the anthem, read them, sing them. What are football players doing that support the lyrics? Which are represented by the flag? The NFL needs to hug a veteran, all veterans, of all colors and genders. Get off your thrones and mingle with the peasants...... They are the ones who have made you able to have the life you have today. Be grateful not hateful

  • Debbie - 7 years ago

When professional players are working they should behave is a professional manner. In no professional environment are paid workers allowed to protest or express their political religious or other views in the workplace. If I gave a sales presentation to customers and injected my political or religious views I would be reprimanded and then fired if I did not correct my behavior. Sports fans want to see a sports game - not the players political or social views and statements. Owners need to respect the public and LEAD and MANAGE their players . The governing bodies of the sports events need to LEAD and MANAGE the organization for what it is a SPORTS team. Show some Respect your fans - all of them. We watch and come to be entertained by a game. Your political views have no place at a sporting event.

  • Marsh Fernbaugh - 7 years ago

I think they should be fired, for disrespecting the flag, anthem, country and those who sacrificed everything. I know of no other employer, who would condone such disrespect and outrageousness.

  • David Aldridge - 7 years ago

This is not about freedom to express their views. It's about a bunch of low IQ millionaires trying to trample the nation and our flag. They could do it somewhere else. They suck, and everyone else who supports this crap are just as guilty. They have no right to enjoy this great country.

  • Christian - 7 years ago

So it's ok for your President not to put his hand over his heart, but y'all get mad at something y'all don't no nothing about. Just racist

  • Aron - 7 years ago

First what the president said had nothing to do with racism but a few want to make it that way It had to do with honoring this country. If these players don't like this country then go to another one and see if they can make $10,000,000 a year

  • San Francisco Girl - 7 years ago

SO un-American as well as DISRESPECTFUL!! They can always (and should) go live in another country

  • jerry despaltro - 7 years ago

I will not watch another NFL game this season.

  • David Aldridge - 7 years ago

Fire the unpatriotic bastards. I'll not watch another game until this crap ends. I would be fired from my job for such actions.

  • Thomas - 7 years ago

I don't like it but I support freedom. I believe it is up to the owners/NFL they are the players employers so if they're not choosing not to reprimand their employees that's up to them. And the idea of political fascism or corporate fascism scares the hell out of me so I will always side with freedom over censorship I disagree with the means of the protest as well as the message but again I support their freedom to do so. That's the beauty of this country is that we can disagree and it's ok so as long as nobody's rights are trampled on I'm good with it.

  • David Aldridge - 7 years ago

Fire the unpatriotic bastards. I'll not watch another game until this crap ends. I would be fired from my job for such actions.

This is total disrespect for our country and the service men and women who protect their freedom.

Chris Sudlik: One question. Can you protest (peacefully or otherwise) during your working hours?

  • Gary - 7 years ago

If you don't honor this country I suggest you go see how things are around the world in other Country's and then maybe you will see how good you actually have it here!!!

  • Lori Bourgeois - 7 years ago

I feel they have the right to protest. I also feel the owners have the right to fire them for doing this on the job, as well as the public’s right to not view or attend the games.

  • Sandra Gilsky - 7 years ago

Its their job. If I protesting during my work hours I would be fired. They are employees. Read the NFL rule book they are to dtand with helmets in left hand by their side. They broke the rule. People dont watch football for politics. There is enough of that elsewhere. Furthermore it is disgraceful to alot of vets and Americsns. Stop it NOW!

  • Chris Sudlik - 7 years ago

"I think sports and politics should stay separated" is just a lazy way of saying "I like sports, I hate that people are protesting and I don't want to hear it, I refuse to listen to the issues of my neighbors and anything is better than considering the perspectives of the rest of society" It's a deeply awful way of seeing the problem that relegates the people playing the sport to bodies, meat for your pleasure, not individuals with many skills and variety and depth as human beings. No wonder we still have so many racial issues in the country when so many view them with the same mindset as they view slaves.

But worse yet nearly 30% believe they should be punished? That is an unbelievable new opposition to the first amendment, to realizing politics influence every aspect of our lives, to listening to or understanding others in this nation, it's just "do as I say or you don't belong here." Given the results of this poll so far, it's clear this nation has fallen to fascism already. It's already too late.
