Was the L.A. City Council right to pass a boycott of Arizona?

  • Mitch - 14 years ago

So far as of now I count a total of THREE unique posters to this topic who support the stupid boycott. Wow...way to represent folks.

  • Terry - 14 years ago

The citizens who live in and around LA City should boycott the city and not spend their money in the city. Do your grocery shopping on your way home in a nother city. Go to the movies elsewhere. Let's give LA a shot of their own medicine. Ho dare them speak for ALL of the citizens of California. I WISH I lived in Arizona which is a state who is not afraid to take back the ownership of the state from the illegals and give it back to its American citizens!!!

  • bernice herrera - 14 years ago

How in the world you ignorant morons think that boycotting other hardworking American's is for you to decide is beyond me.

  • mathgirl - 14 years ago

Boycotting so stupid!!! It takes away money from small businesses full of working people trying to make a living
who had NOTHING to do with writing this law.
Many workers who may be immigrants themselves. SO HYPOCRITICAL. Waste of time. LA better just work on its own problems and this is not one of them! Leave Arizona alone.
We don't live there, we haven't had a daughter kidnapped or a loved one shot to death. I feel for those Arizonians who have lost family members due to illegal drug cartel guys. Why is LA standing up for drug guys?? HUH?

  • DCCA - 14 years ago

This action by the LA City Council is exactly what is wrong with government in California. The city is bankrupt because of mismanagement and multiple unnecessary concessions to the labor unions. Meanwhile, our imbecile leaders focus on this against the will of voting citizens. Look at any poll and Americans want the illegal immigration onslaught ended. And they don't want comprehensive immigration reform. THEY JUST WANT CURRENT IMMIGRATION LAWS ENFORCED. WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS THAT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS DON'T GET?

I'm boycotting LA. I'm moving my 35 member family reunion from LA to Scottsdale. And I'm NOT some right wing wacko. I have donated and voted Democrat for years. But no more.

    Reyes and Hahn are idiots!

  • CAVoter - 14 years ago

The city council DOES realize, don't they, that they are protesting the enforcement of Federal Law?! In any way, shape, or form I can, I will boycott Los Angeles. I won't fly into its airports, I won't spend my money in any store located in the county, I won't order products from companies based there, I won't eat at restaurants headquartered there, and I certainly will be keeping my movie-going dollars in my wallet instead of sending that money to L.A. County. Yes, I realize the county and the city are, at least in theory, two different entities, but the rest of the county needs to get its biggest city back in line with the opinion of the VOTING, LEGAL public!!

  • Mitch - 14 years ago

Hey JuddyBentley, in answer to your "poll" I would say YES. Go after ANY employer who hires illegals.

But, I also know that the Arizona law is correct. EVERY state should be allowed to give their police the right to question those who 1. break the law and 2. are here illegally. It has been a LAW since the 1940's that ANYBODY who is a LEGAL alien MUST carry his/her green card and MUST produce it whenever any law enforcement official asks for it. CITIZENS of this great nation are NOT required to carry "papers" unless they are driving a car or have some other reason to carry them. The MOST Arizona police officers generally ask for when they stop somebody while driving a car is a license and proof of insurance, which you are REQUIRED to carry when you are driving. The most ANY citizen is required to show to ANYBODY as proof of citizenship is their drivers license or state-issued ID card.

  • John - 14 years ago

Ummm.... that's not what I want my councilmen spending our time, and money on! Hello, We are loosing our jobs here, why are you talking about Arizona? Is it because your don't want to have to talk about the 1,000 people you are talking about firing? Your a city council, and you can't even do the right thing for us.... DWP issues? Layoffs? Pay cuts? Shitty Roads? closing "city services that don't raise revenues?"

Don't think I don't notice how you screw us people who live in your city over, wile you are talking about Arizona for the papers!

Shame on the Sucker press for taking the bate!!

I wonder why these politicians are so angry and calling the people of Arizona racist and Nazis but kisses the asses of China? I dont see anyone boycotting China and their products? In the latest news from China, they are buying North Korean women. Slavery=good while upholding the laws of the United States of America makes Arizona=Nazis and Racists? The city council needs an enema.

  • Brent - 14 years ago

I'm going to boycott Los Angeles. Let city council feel the pain they want to inflict on Arizona.

  • Sean - 14 years ago

For the record, just because I support the Arizona legislation and am against giving handouts to illegal immigrants does not make me a racist! How dare the LA City Council to label Arizona and all their supporters racist just because they're upholding the law and keeping crime out of this country. This just proves that the people running LA are complete morons who care more about handouts to illegal immigrants and making parades for the Lakers than taking care of their own citizens.

  • Lawnie Duran - 14 years ago

Hey L.A. Latino Actors and Actress get off your butts and out of those hills you live in and kick those politicians out of office with your big money, seems thats the only thing that moves these people. Fly them off to Mexico and leave them their with one way tickets, lets see how they feel in one month. Cheers for Az, man they got the real kahonies to get the job done, and I'll tell you one thing, I love my Mexican, chinese, russian and who ever else is here legally. If you brake the law, you pay the piper and that's the way it is!!! Im boycotting L.A big time and spreading the news not to spend a dime in that county.

  • Mary - 14 years ago

Despicable, embarrassing, and shameful display. Who are they serving with this tripe? They apparently are more than willing to flagrantly offend their constiguents, and anyone else, who agrees with this responsible legislation. Arizona should be assured they are headed in the right direction. The worst city council in America, L.A., does not approve!

  • angry Chuck - 14 years ago

I can't believe these MORONS make day to day decisions running the city. pull your heads out and think about the people, the American people that are effected by ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. THE RISING HEALTH CARE COSTS, THE BURDEN ON OUR SCHOOLS, OUR HARD EARNED TAX DOLLARS PAYING FOR OTHER PEOPLE, OUR JOBS THREATENED, THE DISRESPECT OF ILLEGALS HAVE FOR THE USA. I'M JUST SICK OF ALL THE DELUSIONAL POLITICIANS THAT AREN'T AFFECTED BY ILLEGALS IN ANY NEGATIVE WAY LIKE I AM. WAKE UP AND GROW SOME BALLS AND STAND UP FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE THAT PAY YOUR SALARY.

  • dennis - 14 years ago

CA and Obama should mind thier own business. It's not like you LOSERs have nothing else to worry about

  • Mitch - 14 years ago

HOW DARE the L.A. city council use what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany as a weapon against those of us who actually want to DO something about illegal immigration. You all are a bunch of reprehensible people.

  • IAN LEE - 14 years ago

    LISTEN UP ALL YOU CRACKKKAS,

THIS IS THE LAND OF THE FREE, AND WE LATINOS ARE HERE TO STAY, FREELY.

YOU COWARDS ARE A BUNCH OF RACIST SCUM WHO WANT TO ERADICATE THE LATINO POPULATION
OF THIS COUNTRY. BUNCH OF NAZI'S, JUST LIKE THE LA COUNCILMAN WAS STATING.

I DO NOT SUPPORT AZ. VIVA LA RAZA! BOYCOTT ARIZONA!

  • lynda - 14 years ago

ARIZONA IS SETTING THE EXAMPLE, FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!
THE CITY COUNCIL IS A JOKE! ARIZONA HAS THE BEST SHERIFF AND GOVERNOR!
    WE NEED THEM IN CA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don - 14 years ago

Be happy LA. Many of those illegal Mexicans you are so fond of will soon be heading for California.
It will be damn intereting to see how you solve the problems they brough to Arizona.
I'm so glad I got the hell out of that state.

  • Alberto - 14 years ago

I'm glad I moved out LA long time ago, these idiots think that they speak for everyone and they are WRONG.
I'm mexican and I'm discusted with people likes this that have no life and latch to anything just be on the news.
That Reyes guys is such an idiot and I wish he gets deported he thinks that entire southwestern US is Aztlan and should be handed back to Mexico so the cartels can take over and start decapitating people.
My wife and I are were looking for a place to retire and we checked NV, AZ and a couple of other places now we are going to choose AZ.
LIKE I SAID I'M MEXICAN BUT CHOOSE TO BECOME AND AMERICAN CITIZEN I CHOOSE TO BE HERE AND LOVE THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE IT GAVE ME THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT MEXICO NEVER GAVE ME AND NEVER WILL
AND I WOULD NOT MIND IF I WAS STOP BY ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENT AND ASK FOR ID BECAUSE I'M NOT A CRIMINAL AND HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR
MAYBE REYES HAVE SOMETHING TO FEAR THAT IS WHY HE THINKS HE NEEDS HIS PASSAPORT TO GO TO AZ OR MAYBE HE'S THINKING ABOUT CROSSING THE BORDER AND NOT COMMIN BACK.
WHY AREN'T THEY BOYCOITING MEXICO FOR THE ATROCITIES THE MEXICANS DO TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT COME FROM CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA? THOSE PEOPLE HAVE TO COME TRHU MEXICO IN ORDER TO GET HERE AND THEY MEXICAN AUTHORITIES BEAT AND RAPE THEM AND YET THEY CITY COUNCIL DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT.
MANY PEOPLE FROM SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA HAVE GONE TRHU HELL IN MEXICAN JAILS BECAUSE THEY WERE AUGHT WITHOUT PAPERS IN MEXICO
I WISH THESE PEOPLE ON THE LA CITY COUNCIL GO TO MEXICO AND TRY TO GET AL THEL FREE STUFF THAT THE ILLEGALS GET HERE OR PROTEST WITH USING AMERICAN FLAGS AND SEE WHAT HAPPEN TO THEM
    YA BASTA! VIVA ARIZONA

  • larry - 14 years ago

I am a hardworking small business in Los Angeles County. I see the city counsil as a joke. They leave in a bubble and can not see behond the union money. That is why LAUSD only has PLA agreements in all of their construction project. Worse build schools and the most expensive. We need to go BK to start from 0 for that i am willing to pay more money........................Other than that they need to be treated as what they are racist..... I am latino and i only see one color and that is American Green....

  • MT - 14 years ago

    COWARDS! COWARDS! COWARDS!
THIS GOV'T IS SUCH A DISASTER AND SHOULD BE WIPED OUT CLEAN AND START NEW WITH CITIZENS THAT ACTUALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THIS TOWN AND NOT PUSSY AWAY JUST TO GET SOME VOTES.
    GET A REAL JOB GUYS!
DO SOME GOOD HARD LABOR LIKE MOWING SOME LAWNS AND FIXING SOME ROADS AND CREATING SOME NON GOV'T JOBS.
STOPE DISTRACTING CITIZENS WITH SMUT NO ONE BELIEVES. IF THEY DO THEIR STUPID AS ALL HELL!
GOD THIS PLACE IS SUCH A JOKE! I CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE OUT OF CALIFORNIA! MAN I CAN'T WAIT! I HOPE THIS PLACE FALLS INTO THE OCEAN WITH ALL THE POLITICIANS.
OH, CAN'T WAIT TO VOTE EITHER!

  • Brandon - 14 years ago

There is not any one country in the world that the police wouldn't ask for an ID card with your nationality and citizenship status and why you are in their country.I have traveled in many continents and many ,many countries;that is routine in all over the world. Why do we want to be different? Can't we learn from other countries?
I am worried about the next 15 or 20 millions of illegals who will come and stay and march for their" constitutional rights" violated.
They should have an Id card, work and go back.DO NOT STAY.

  • barbara g - 14 years ago

I just spent a beautiful long weekend in AZ and felt so good supporting their economy. AZ legislature is doing exactly the right thing. ILLEGAL immigration has got to stop! Enough is enough! I hope many more states will take matters into their own hands now that they've seen AZ had the balls to do it. California needs to do the same but I guess the legislature is afraid they will lose their Hispanic vote. Do what is morally right and quit being so selfish. You're going to get voted out of office anyway. The boycott is ridiculous!

  • Maria Vargas - 14 years ago

As an Latin American I can't believe these business people are being prosecuted for NO reason because of false lies. My company announced there canceling all convention within the city of Los Angeles and I can't mention our company name do to it being a fortune 200 company here in America. In discussions with Arizona and Orange Co, Ca moving all convention from L.A. Will see who's Boycott the boycott!

  • Jenny - 14 years ago

Focus on your own jobs. You are ruining our state and now you want to control Arizona. Just because you don't care about what happens in the "beautiful" city of Los Angeles doesn't give you the right to stick your noses in the business of another state. This is not a racist law and anyone who is "selling" it as such ought to be ashamed! Get back to work on cleaning up your own messes or we will find someone who will in the upcoming election.

  • Boycott the Illegals - 14 years ago

When somebody hits you repeatedly over and over and over again, at some point you get up and fight back, walk away, hope that they walk away, or you die.

When will we see that the illegal immigrant problem is because we do need comprehensive immigration reform. I do NOT mean that as a euphemism for amnesty either. We need to reform our current practice of essentially ignoring the problem (save for the token raid for press purposes). Build the fence along both our northern AND southern borders. Patrol that fence vigilantly! Enforce the laws that are ALREADY on the books!!

As far as deporting those already here, it isn't necessary nor even practical. If the laws are enforced as currently written, there will be no jobs available and they would no longer be eligible for public assistance. They will have no choice other than to move or starve. That would be THEIR choice!

  • pnetjim - 14 years ago

This was the final straw! My business provides 3-4 MILLION annually to the City of Los Angeles! I am going to move it to Arizona!

  • keith machin - 14 years ago

the city council members should be suspended without pay and replace wiith some people that are more interested in LA.CITYS ISSUES NOT ARIZONIA.we are taxpayers that pay there salary.and where do they have the right to vote on this issue and take away the city of LA's revenue.I hope ARIZONIA SUES LA FOR A BREACH OF CONTRACT.and let these bobble heads spend more of our taxpayers money fighting it.but of course they don't have the money to fix the pot hole in front of your house because they are to busy worrying about arizonia and the hispanic vote.because the legal hispanic is housing the ilegal.maybe the answer is to all this is to post a bill board in spanish that california is broke has no money please go home.

  • Jim - 14 years ago

Thank God I don't live in L.A. I would have to move. I doubt that the city council has even read the Arizona bill, much like our Attorney General. What right does the council have to put hard working people out of work in Arizona, although they are doing a real good job of doing that here. Look at the polls, the majority of Americans support this bill. Hopefully the people of L.A. will voice their dismay at the polls. How could things get so upside down?

  • GDerrick - 14 years ago

It is unfortunate the City Council and our Mayor today base their decisons on emotion and hysteria and not on rational intellect. This is the most lame group with no leadership nor do they have an understanding of why Arizona reverted to this move nor have they ever read the bill. There is no racial profiling- the language is taken from current Federal Immigration law that is enforced today (READ IT). Now we are going to loose $26 million annually in contracts and more businesses here because of lame hysteria of the city council and the Mayor who have NEVER READ THE BILL! - but put their foot in their mouths. Nevada, New Mexico, Utah are now waiting to grab these boycotted contracts. My relatives (who are hispanic) live and commute to Arizona support this bill as well as many of the hispanic communities (contrary what Univision and others are saying here). We need to wake up LA because we are perceived as fools that govern with no basis.

  • Tim - 14 years ago

LA City Council + Sand = Stupid sand

  • SuperMex - 14 years ago

Racial profiling? Are you kidding? I have been stopped numerous times for DWM (Driving While Mexican) here in lily-white OC. What makes people that our lawdogs don't do that here?

Arizona is only doing what the federal government fails to do.

    Viva Arizona!

  • John - 14 years ago

The city counsel is too stupid to even read the DWP bill it passed - seems the only thing they can do is pass gas. MORONS

  • ElenaMaria - 14 years ago

We need to get rid of our brainless, dim-witted lawmakers in this state of California – they suck!!!! It’s so sad that we, Americans have to be ashamed that we are Americans, because if we do not act ashamed, we’re called racist. I’m so SICK of hearing that word.

  • Obama - 14 years ago

Fuck you City council and mainly mayor Via-repulsive.
    Fuck illegal immigrants!
    get your handouts somewhere else...
    FUCK your handouts

  • bulklover - 14 years ago

I wonder how many of the City Council knotheads have actually READ the bill!! There is nothing more entertaining than a government that ignores its own laws; federal law ALREADY prohibits "undocumented immigrants" and the AZ law simply makes it a state statute. I agree with followTheMoney, it's great to watch socialism rot from afar. Heehee!

  • Rosemary - 14 years ago

Like Eric Holder--how many of the LA bunch have actually read the law??? Where can we get " Heart" AZ bumper stickers? Also I wonder how many of the "bunch" along with their families will stay away from Lake Havasu this coming Memorial Day weekend which is so popular with us Californians. AZ is beautiful, but we do need the border to be closed for sure--then check the employers---these Mexicans don't want citizenship as so many idiotic legislatures spin--they only want to work here. So many just don't get it.

  • Tony - 14 years ago

LA council is a bunch of pussy's, and they are scared that this new movement in AZ will lead to them having to pass something similar in CA. We need to lock the borders up from these tax money wasting, hand out wanting, illegal immigrants. F- That quit babying these illegal immigrants and do something about it.

Why does LA council think the world evolves around them?
here's an idea, worry about our illegal alien situation....

  • FEDERICO - 14 years ago

To IAN LEE, I saw your website, it is filled with more hate than anything that this bill puts in to place, I pose the question to you, have you even read the 26 page bill? It specifically states that racial profiling will not be tolerated, all the Nazi refrenses are offensive to the people who died in WWII and fought for this country, you should be happy that you have the right to free speach and are able to protest this at all even if you are wrong. There are absolutly no parralles to Nazi Germany, and as it is where do you not have to show ID? Only to vote, this Country is based on imigrants of all nations and would not survive if we took them all out, the fundamental issue here, though, is that some have come here illiegally and there for have ruined what this country is. Phoenix has one of the highest kidnapping rates in the country and many hospitals are going bankrupt in AZ due to the people coming across and hurting themselves and then getting free care. This bill may not be the best solution or even one that will work but it is the best thing that has been proposed. God Bless America the home of the brave including AZ who has been brave enough to stand up and actually listen to her people who were crying out for action. Only if our City and State could do the same and listen to the obvious majority and do what we want them to do as well. This pole was already lopsided even before John and Ken Mentioned it on the radio, therefore IAN LEE your conspiracy theory that it is all John and Kens fault, it is the TRUE opinion of the People, WHITE BLACK HISPANIC ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER, even republican and Democrats it is not just whites that want this bill or belive that it is right, it is every one who wants to preserve this country. look at all of the polls that have been placed all are an overwhelming majority in support of Arizona, As a Legal immagrant from Brazil, I have no problem showing my ID ,I actually would have a problem if I didnt have to show it, then it would mean that all that I did to get in to this country and gain citizenship would have been for nothing. God Bless America Land that I LOVE
    .

  • precy - 14 years ago

LA City Council are representing the illegals and not the right of the Americans. They should live in Mexico not in America since obviosly they dont have our best interest. And can you imagine that the US Att. General who want to file a lawsuit againts AZ law DID NOT even read the Bill. What a shame! Now wonder I if the LA City Council who voted againts the bill read it!

  • jeff200 - 14 years ago

We should also boycott all electrical power imported from Arizona lest we be seen as hypocrites. Almost all this imported power is generated by racist, fascist nazis by means of powerful nuclear reactors.

Do you realize this makes the imported electrons Radioactive? They are right now whirling around our precious childrens' precious ears and only inches from their precious brains when they use their cell phones and i things. Even in Santa Monica and Malibu and Santa Barbara and other nuclear-free zones.

And not only our precious children will have radioactive brains, but the precious Peoples of Homelessness who recharge their myriad devices from public electric outlets in bathrooms and such, and who do not know they're getting dosed with fascist, racist, nazified radioactive electrons.

  • Michael Jiroch - 14 years ago

This is just a diversion from a group of idiot politicians who have lost complete control over the city finances. These characters have managed to put this city so far down the debt hole, we may never recover. But what the HEY! ....lets point our corrupted greasy little fingers at Arizona and maybe nobody will notice what incompetent and corrupted little boobs we all are.

  • js SoCal - 14 years ago

Arizona, and the rest of the U.S., should boycott LA, for being idiots that do a better job of minding other peoples business, than their own.
Mayor V, and the LA City Council are so full of crap.
These ass-clowns, with their liberal (leftist) pro-illegal immigrant pandering, have run this city into the ground.
Their only solution to the LA's horrible financial mess is to beg the Federal government to keep pumping in billions of dollars to support all the failed programs and services for our ever-growing illegal population.
Take a look around the city, these days, and you will think that you were some how transported over the border into poverty stricken Mexico. Marvel at our bankrupt hospitals, and our over-crowded schools and prisons.
It won't be long until we are all trying to sneak into Canada to seek a better quality of life.

  • Gary Kynard - 14 years ago

I would LOVE to experience the inconvenience, discomfort, hardship of an Arizona boycott of Los Angeles as they withhold water or power for a day or two. If Arizona would only act like the DWP and withhold until it gets its way!

  • Smith - 14 years ago

I'm boycotting Los Angeles and spending my vacation dollars in Arizona

  • Harry Schell - 14 years ago

The LA City Council is a group of losers with far more self-esteem than intellect. The state of the city's finances shows they are incompetent and dishonest to boot.

This grandiose move is partly stimulated by Janis Hahn trying to close the huge gap between her and moonbat Gavin Newsome in the race for Lt. Governor. At least that motive is clear. She hopes to find a hobby horse she can ride. It will never make up for her inablity to think rationally orbe a productive citizen. She is in this job as a legacy appointment by stupid voters in honor of her dad. She would never had a chance, otherwise.

AS to the rest of the idiots voting for this silliness, I think they are stupid, bigted, fools trying to get positive ink to divert attention from their incredible stupidity.

Look how they mishandled the negtotiations with DWP. No excuse for that kind of idiocy.

Turn 'em out, knaves all of them.

  • Rick - 14 years ago

Boy, how stupid is this. The City is essentially bankrupt with what I consider a cardinal sin, unfunded retirement liabilities, and these dorks can't stay in their own sandbox. i am SO over LA...

  • Carol - 14 years ago

The boycott is ridiculous. My husband and I are planning a trip to Arizona now so we can spend our tourist $$ there.

  • Phil - 14 years ago

LA Mayor and council members are a bunch of morons. All of them went to LA Unified.

  • Legal citizen - 14 years ago

The city council has a hard time managing their own budget and illegal immigration, why focus the attention on another state. Fix your own problems first then offer assistance to another area.

  • JOHN - 14 years ago

Paul Koretz is not only a bumbling idiot, he also has more chins than the actual people in Arizona that will be affected by the law. I do hope Ed Reyes gets deported like he said he would, because he doesn't deserve his citizenship in the US. And as for Janice Hahn, you only hope she doesn't some how get elected Lt. Governor.

  • Gene - 14 years ago

I am a proud native Californian, my family has been here since before California became a state, and my immediate family has three pioneering familiy ties, The Soberanes, Marsh, and Castro early Californian families. I am ASHAMED at what our once-great state has become. The so-called liberal-progressives have made a shambles of my beautiful state. I have roots in Los Angeles, Monterey, and Orange counties, and I am DISGUSTED with these people. I support ANYONE of ANY race from any country that immigrates here LEGALLY, just like our ancestors did. But these so-called Americans, who could care-less about our border states or our people that were born here, or immigrated legally, are pandering in the worse way to people who don't even vote! Why is that? And, why, Washington, are you NOT enforcing the laws that are on the books to help the border states enforce our national borders? I also want to know why the Border states,(except for Arizona) are turning a blind-eye to SEVERE drug problems being imported from Mexico? Do they support it? I say, ENFORCE our borders, and build a triple-layer wall across all borders between Mexico and our country. Mexico needs to have a another revolution, and get rif of the corrupted national government. Perhaps we will someday also, since the California acts like it is based in Mexico!

  • Hutch - 14 years ago

I've never been to Arizona before, but have 2 trips planned there now. I work in the city of LA and will stop buying anything while I am there due to this. Good job LA city council. Hope you enjoy less tax money headed your way.

  • BobN - 14 years ago

GO Back home and support the country your so proud of Chicanos! Your arogant self righteous attitudes are wearing thin on a generous people. The easy open door will swing back hard....just keep a pushin and feel the ride amigos.

  • julie - 14 years ago

Just when you think the LA City Council can not do anything more stupid then what they already have done...WELL SURPRISE! (but then again look who we are talking about maybe not). This is Arizona's issue and to boycott innocent companies and especially the people who would have had these jobs is a disgrace. How many of those that these idiots think they are protecting are they really going to be hurting. How many of these people who thought they were going to have work now will not and be on unemployment.
REALLY with ALL of the problems and issues that LA has they need to focus on making this the fine city it once once, our highways are full of pot holes and trying to get anywhere is a joke with the traffic and they are always standing around looking like they are working when they aren't. The LA CITY schools are a disgrace in themselves and we are doing a major disservice to the children who attend them, and all they do is have their palms out for more of my money in taxes and the more I pay the less I see any improvement.
LA CITY COUNCIL MIND YOUR OWN CITY BEFORE YOU MIND OTHERS.....

  • John - 14 years ago

The LA city council has made the city bankrupt and instead of concertrating on rescueing it - they want to protect illegals because 100% of the council members have atleast 75% of their families here illegally. Many of the members themselves may be illegal with fake documents. We should pack the LA City Council and send deport them after stripping their Citizenship for being TRAITORS of the USA by supporting crimes and law-breaking.

  • Candice - 14 years ago

My feeling is that the LA city council has much more important issues to deal with at this time. Some of the council members want to pander to the Mexican population legal and illegal for votes. They believe that this issue will help them get re-elected, I think they have misjudged the majority of the voting public on this issue. I think they have made a serious error in judgment. And concerning the Nazi remark made by the councilman ...he should resign at once or be re-called by his district.

  • Michelle Woods - 14 years ago

This is outrageous pandering to the Hispanic groups of LA to keep your seat in a public office. I can't believe that in this time of economic hardship, that we have American people working against other Americans to support illegals! This is NOT a racial issue, this is an issue of LAW. Why is it ok for some of us to follow the rules and not others?!?

  • El Rick - 14 years ago

I am glad the L.A. times has conducted this poll. If those idiots in the L.A. City council had done something as intelligent as that, with all their overpaid staff, they would have found out how far out of touch they are with, not only California but practically the entire country. ILLEGAL IMIGRATION IS WRONG! Arizona has every right to protect itself with this law since it is the illegals that brought all the crime to the state. Not one of those moranic council people elluded to this. The boycott that that these "NAZI" accusing people are voting for is very similar to Hitler encouraging the German people to boycott the Jews. So Janice Hahn and all the rest of these embiciles are encouraging the state to do just like Hitler. So who are the Nazis?

  • Vicky - 14 years ago

I am outrage at the city council's disregard for the my position and all those that voted for them in the first place. I am a Mexican American woman who is fed up with illegal immigration, invadors who don't pay taxes and don't value the education of their children and don't respect our way of living. The gov't expect us to keep paying for the bill. Arizona deserves a standing ovation. We as Angelinos need to follow in Arizona's footsteps, and stop staying quite. Come election time, our government officials need to feel our anger and discontent with their job performance. They don't remember they are there to work for the legal citizens, not the illegals.... We need to send a strong message, city council "YOU'RE FIRED"!!!!

  • Steverd - 14 years ago

This is something a five-year-old would consider. I'm sure the L.A. City Council has many more important things to consider than this. This action has the potential backlash of depriving the port and airport of commerce dollars, so if the City LOSES money on this, who is the winner?

Oh, and my family members served in WWII, fighting the Axis agression, one of them died. If I could speak to my grandfather from beyond his watery grave, I'm sure he would never equate this law with anything remotely similar to what was going on in Europe and the areas of the Pacific occupied by Japan. I'm sure he would support this measure that Arizona has approved. Who will be the next State that has had enough?

  • TG - 14 years ago

    ** Correction **
~ Assessed several "revenue fees" (we call them taxes) on it's citizens without representation by trying and sometime succeeding in bypassing the 2/3rds vote for a simple majority vote.

  • steve - 14 years ago

I will be Boycotting LA. I live in Arizona and will make sure my Business stops purchasing from California and no more trips there for my Family. Tell your beloved Lakers to stay home as well since we will destroy them anyway.

  • TG - 14 years ago

I'm not shocked because the LA City Council is truly filled with those who have no sense of truth. logic, justice, or even common horse sense. They in truth, don't care what comes out of their mouths as long as they are appealing to a special interest group that will do something for them in either money or votes making weak promises or ones the never intend to keep. Here's a tribute to the wonderful things LA City Council and State government has wrought...

~ Assessed several "revenue fees" (we call them taxes) on it's citizens without representation by passing the 2/3rds vote.

~ Allowed for a whiny, hypocritical ex-FireFighter to fake the city out of over 1 million dollars.

~ Allowed for political cronyism, whereby $100,000 a year do nothing jobs like the old Garbage Board are awarded to those who vote in favor of their pet project. (I'll grease your pocket, if you grease mine)

~ Wasted billions of funds on bogus vanity projects and social projects, while simultaneously NOT building any significant infrastructure to LA.

~ Laid waste to the Educational system in CA by failing to regulate our schools properly per district and handling the budget so badly they needed to up the Cal State fees.

~ Wasted time on nanny - legislation and ineffective global warming junk instead of fixing real issues.

~ Passing do nothing "resolutions", wasting precious time that could be used to FIX LA's overwhelming problems.

~ Collecting "double-dipping" salaries by retiring early, received a pension, yet going back to the trough being allowed to get yet another government job.

~ Unleashed and provided lax supervision of thousands of parolees on the citizens which directly contributed to the decades long kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard, the sexual-assault of a social worker, and the death of Amber Dubois, Chelsea King and countless other victims and survivors.

The line in the sand, is now a pencil thin arc we should dare them to politically cross. This is the very short list of their dastardly deeds. Their selfish gall is apparent and with this evidence of the damage and devastation they have caused, it becomes clear, California State Government Politicians are what we need to Boycott. Vote them ALL OUT OF OFFICE. Don't be lied to anymore. They are out for themselves and not on your side. How have they suffered during this economic crisis? - Not suffered at all. For me it's clear this year when election time comes they get, NO MONEY, NO VOTE! Enough, is too much.

Have any of these fools read the bill??? The Mad Hatter would love to invite them to tea!

What of group of imbeciles; clearly "birds of a feather."

    READ THE BILL!!!

    Bravo, AZ!

  • Iwilldie4thiscountry - 14 years ago

Talk about Idiocracy, what have we done...we let the most stupid of people represent us..even though I don't blame at this point only the luniest get into politics and it is reflected on our present government, let the people who give a d#$n about our country rise, let's take it back and through all these politicians out, I was once a democrat..now I woke up and want nothing to do with it, throw all of them out expecially the democrats..they do nothing for americans and more and more for the illegals and people who break the laws...I'm tired of this! I am mad and furious, I love America, I will not sit around and let anybody try to dismantel this precious country..let's go!

  • Laila - 14 years ago

I dont know what all the fuss is about. These laws are nothing new. We have always had laws against ALL illegal immigrants, From Mexicans to Asians. I fully SUPPORT AZ. I think all of US should crack down on this situation. I am an American Mexican and my family did it the right way. If they can anyone can. I dont think its right that my family struggled to become an AMERICAN while these other people just come over and actually have the right to complain that there is no work that pays, no medical insurance, and that they can not obtain and live here in the states without living in fear of deportation. Cry me a river, I shouldnt have to pay for someone else to live here comfortably while my family, "CITIZENS" struggle to just live. If you really feel that AZ can be compared to NAZIS then all honestly have no idea of what you are talking about. How dare you all take away this historic tragedy and make a mockery of it!! You all should be ashamed of your selves.

  • GarandFan - 14 years ago

You would think that with LA's problems, the city council would have other concerns. Since those idiots obviously cannot set priorities, THEY SHOULD ALL RESIGN! This is rapidly becoming a 3rd world city thanks to them.

  • J Finch Jr. - 14 years ago

The L.A city council needs to spend it's time solving the cities' problems, not trying to pander to their illegal Mexican Angelinos.I will personnally boycott L.A. I will not buy product or spend money on entertainment in the L.A city limits. There are a lot of people that think like me.
    Why doesn't L.A. stop doing business accepting Az.airline Companies landing here?-one word-money.
    It's all just posing.
All of the L.A. city council are posers!

  • Bob A. - 14 years ago

This Council is wa, way out of line. They are wasting tax dollars by spending their time and effort to try and "punish" Arizona. This Council should be doing the business it was hired to do... taking care of the City of L.A., working to manage and improve its infrastructure and being concerned about events and issues that occur IN L.A., not in some other city, let alone some other state. Why do they even think Arizona's government is any of their business. Next thing, they'll be trying to tell the Federal Government what to do, or trying to boycott some foreign country. They ought to be packing their boxes now because come election time, nobody is going to forget how they screwed around with this Arizona thing when they should have been tending business at home.

  • John Smith - 14 years ago

Go ahead and boycott Arizona. Lets see how much power do we provide to you. Oh yes then there is the water we send to you because we don't really need it right now. Now please be sure to remember when you have no water and no lights you are getting even with us.

  • Dave A. - 14 years ago

Do they really have nothing else to do other than worry about policies out of our own state? I am boycotting the boycott by making my $3-4K supply purchases from companies in AZ this year!

  • Patrick M. Pelley - 14 years ago

Obviously the LA Mayor and City Council supports IMMIGRANT SLAVERY, FORCED PROSTITUTION, CHILD LABOR, REAL HUMAN TORCHER, KIDNAPPING along with common bribery, battery, extorcion, intimmidation, extreem gang violence and recruiting. Their actions clearly do not support law abiding citizens, regardless of their legal status. This also explains why they support their gang infested school system. Their political statements place their assertions "IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN" blazing, britely into the night sky with garish neon letters obliterating the original "HOLLYWOOD" sign with their cruel message.

  • Steve - 14 years ago

The LA city council is crazy. They know the law was passed because there is such a large problem and the Feds wont do their job. The funny part about LA's boycott is that is I changed my families vacation plans from LA to guess where? You got it - Arizona. I feel really sorry about all you out there in LA!

  • Steve - 14 years ago

I think it's hilarious that the city is nearly bankrupt, and they are spending even an hour's worth of time on this completely nonsensical ruling. Should the Lakers and Dodgers not travel to Phoenix either to play games? Should local colleges like UCLA and USC not go to Arizona in the fall to play football games? And if they do travel there to play games, should they stay on the CA side of the CA/AZ border and drive in just for the game, and then drive right back, so as not to stay in a local hotel and eat local food? Oh, that's okay for teams to play there, but heaven forbid a city employee takes a vacation to Arizona to visit family and they return to their job, someone finds out they traveled there, and they're fired. Don't laugh! It'll happen.

  • Adam - 14 years ago

The L.A. City council is nothing but a big joke!!! I am SO Glad I live in Orange County. I'd be embarrassed to have the City of L.A. representing me. Who the heck do they think they are comparing this to Nazi Germany? Are you serious??? I am an American of Mexican decent and recently went to Arizona to visit my friend. I was there about 2 weeks ago and had ABSOLUTELY no problems what so ever and was never once in fear of my own safety. I support Arizona 100%

  • jr - 14 years ago

    BRAVO ARIZONA.........

  • Richard and Linda Stuber - 14 years ago

With all the problems that face Los Angeles we now have ignorant politicians that cannot read and understand SB 1070 and its amendments injecting things that are not within the bill and then calling it racist! The only racist are the ones who are claiming it to be racist and they are following the actions of the Nazi's in Germany circa 1930 to 1944.

This is what comes of an electorate that only knows sports scores and fails to watch what the political elite are doing to the citizens of this country with the backing of the left leaning lame street media.

They all need to be voted out of office!

  • Chad - 14 years ago

Arizona supports the constitution. L.A. does not. L.A. is breaking the law!

  • Jim - 14 years ago

The fact of the matter is that the LA city counsel is hiding behind hate speech to push their liberal agenda. I would have some respect for the morons on the counsel if they would just tell it like it is: They consider the illegals (and their anchor babies) as constituents. That the illegals further their liberal agenda because they rely heavily on government for their existence.

The sad truth is that Los Angeles has been hijacked by Mexican Nationals (Like Villaraigosa) in partnership with the democrat party. The hard working citizens of Los Angeles and their children are completely ignored and forced to live in ever expanding ghettos a la little Tiajuana.

I get the feeling that "progressives" are going to become an endangered species in the not too distant future. It really is sad that we all as Americans stopped doing what works, and started doing what sounds good. Maybe now good people will get out and vote.

  • bevan - 14 years ago

Fast forward to the future when another troubled countrys immigrants, or maybe some new group of haters who wants to destroy America, tries to get in illegally. That's when we'll see how divisive their views are. These people have no long term view of what their pandering ways will lead to. They are trying to make the issue race discrimination, when it's very clearly the issues of illegal immigration, and the protection of our national security.

  • Ak - 14 years ago

Absolute garbage! So Villaraigosa and his friend's have done such a beautiful job ruining LA, now they fit to put their nose into another states business? Bunch of good for nothing who better start saying their
"adioses" to their job as they will surely not be reelected!

  • Jeff Shaw - 14 years ago

why are we allowing this idiot council to speak for us....Americans support what Arizona is doing...i will not spend any money in LA, and im gonna fly the Arizona flag at my house.

  • Glenn Harman - 14 years ago

Only in a city where we are half a billion dollars in the hole would we bother with another state's laws.
One that is not racist, or anti immigrant. It only seeks to discover, once contact with a police officer has been made, if you are in the country LEGALLY.
Catering to the immigrant vote is fine, but not if these people are undocumented (which is a Federal
law that has been on the books since the '40's.) Jumping the border is against the law. Not carrying your green card or visa is a felony. Asking to see your identification is not a Nazi tactic, and the use of that
trivializes the inhuman treatment and murder that a group of people were subjected to. Asking for ID is NOT the same.
The city council, the mayor and even our governor should be ashamed of themselves.
The above poll shows what the VOTERS think of this. Better think again guys.

  • JuddyBentley - 14 years ago

Thank you LA CITY COUNCIL for being so BRAVE !

Hey you racists Arizona Governor !
Why don't they go to the root of the problem instead of just putting band-aids, and posturing !

Fine, Imprison, and make a mockery of the rich (usually white) owners of Farms, Winery's, Custodial Services, hotels, etc.. Ohh, I guess this is your payback for voting for BUSH, cheap labor, and laws that look the other way while you make a buck !

This poll is messed up due to John and Ken on KFI AM 640, those loud mouth jerks ruined it !
Why don't you two dorks picket and protest in front of their mansion in Shady Canyon, where it's gated to get in, gated at your street/block, and then gated again at your home... ( I bet this rich people waste a lot of time waiting for gates to open for their dumb butts !)

YOU, Ken, and T-Ray Elmer's School Glue, should do a real poll

    POLL QUESTION

" ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF CRACKIN' THE WHIP, ON OWNERS OF BUSINESS'S THAT EMPLOY UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS?"

    1. YES

    2. NO

THERE'S A REAL POLL FOR YOU RACIST JERKS !

All you racists in CA need to get a clue and stop supporting the business men who hire these illegals instead of just being brain washed by talk shows with right wing corporate shill hacks !
    think idiots !

  • JR - 14 years ago

The LA City Council should take a trip to Mexico and see how THEY treat illegal immigrants.

With the Arizona law we have the most generous immigration laws in the world!

How cruel for them to vilify AMERICAN citizens of all races – referring to us as Nazis.
    Who are these horrible people?!?!

  • S.C. - 14 years ago

The L.A. city council is out of touch with the will of the people. They need to get their heads out of the clouds and spend some time at ground level so they can see what I see: OUR CITY RUINED and a public school system that has succumbed to the weight of trying to teach academics to students who lack the vocabulary to comprehend grade-level instruction.

  • William - 14 years ago

The LA City Council boycott is another reason why we left the city....Unfortunately, when they boycott the State, they are siding with the drug cartels and drug runners plaguing the southern part of the State of Arizona...their time needs to go to helping their own city....

  • Sammy - 14 years ago

I am going to do anything I can do to support Arizona. At the same time I am going to boycott the City of Los Angeles every opportunity I get. No more movies, resturants, shopping, etc.

You can kiss my ass Mayor Tony Villar. Why don't you start cleaning up the mess you created here in LA? You are a big joke and an embarassment to all of us Mexicans.

  • mark - 14 years ago

Our Nation of laws is now run by idiots who bend and lie on every level to support their own election agenda. Sounds like Mexico?

  • Trishybaby - 14 years ago

I agree that the L.A. City Council is not only wrong about history, but is now boycotting a State that is actually reinforcing our Federal Law and protecting the lives of the innocent citizens and taxpayers. Instead, the L.A. City Council is supporting the drug cartel, human traffickers, prostitution and murder. Since when does a city law usurp jurisdiction over state and federal laws? I don't know who has their heads farther up their butts.....the elected officials of L.A. or the people who blindly vote for them! I live in the O.C. and will boycott (to the best of my ability) anything L.A. and BUYCOTT anything Arizona! PC is so passe, and liberalism kills!

  • IAN LEE - 14 years ago

    LEAVE THE ILLEGAL'S ALONE.
    THEY ARE HUMAN.
    WE ALL PAY TAXES

THIS LA TIME POLL IS ALL HATTING ON LA BECAUSE THEY ARE BOYCOTTING AZ

FACE IT EVERYONE WHAT AZ IS DOING ISN'T RIGHT.
I HOPE AZ DOESN'T ASK OBAMA FOR A BAIL OUT.

AZ GO THEMSELVES IN THIS MESS AND THEY CAN GET THEMSELVES BACK OUT.

A CHASE BANKER TOLD ME IF YOU DON'T LIKE LA - MOVE OUT
I CHOOSE TO STAY HERE IN LA I'M HAPPY WITH MY FAMILY

  • William Bell - 14 years ago

The Arizona law is a proper although strong solution to the out-of-control problem of kidnapping, murder and Mexican drug family wars spilling over into the U.S.

  • Ross - 14 years ago

They should boycott the Mexican Government. They are the real problem

  • Mike - 14 years ago

I am fed up with these discusting, ignorant, arrogant, jack asses who are screwing up the City of Los Angeles! Rather then spend the time (at tax payers expense) making their stupid political statement, why dosen't the mayor and his team of incompetent idiots spend time working on a plan to resurrect our city from the financial mess they caused.

  • Amber - 14 years ago

Amazing how, in spite of the lies and irresponsible, one sided, misinformation pouring out of the city council, news papers, and media, still, at least 60% of the country is in support of this law.
What if the LA times were to write an honest, truthful story about this law?
I wonder how many more people would support the law.

Hey – LA Times – do you think you can come up with one truth based, non biased story on this? Please?
You can read the document - http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

Can the LA Times ask Janice Hann where in the bill it talks about deporting for language or cultural traits?

Could someone please call them out for their misinformation? Please?

  • Tom - 14 years ago

Jackasses ......What about the rights of the U.S. citizen not to be kidnaped, killed or tax to death to support them.
View the" bird feeder" on youtube. Its time to take the bird feeder down.
