    Kalamazoo, Michigan

We are the beer people. And we are the bee people. We have so much beer that our bellies are never empty. Asheville is the best place to soak up the suds with the most delicious food.

  • Your Mother - 11 years ago

    K-ZOO !!!~!~1

  • Joshua - 11 years ago

Founders is better than Bell's in every way imaginable. Kalamazoo has Grand Rapids envy. KBS is better than every single beer Bell's has or will have on tap.

  • Lucas - 11 years ago

What the hell does bells being a good brewery have to do with kalamazoo being the best "beer" city? Bells brewery isn't even in kalamazoo. By your logic Lynchburg,TN would be the best whiskey city even though its in a dry county. I'm not saying kzoo sucks but I'm not seeing anything here but, "hurrr durrr Bells is good so kzoo!!!"

  • Tim Suprise - 11 years ago

    Kalamazoo !

  • Dave - 11 years ago

Brian, show me where I've "dissed" Ypsilanti.

And since apparently we have to be technical, you do know Bell's brewery is not actually in Kalamazoo then, right?

  • Brian - 11 years ago

    Kalamazoo!

And Dave.... You don't get to count the Michigan beer festival as Ann Arbor. You Ann arborites can't diss ypsi all day and claim it when it is convenient.

  • mitcho - 11 years ago

Kzoo - Half a dozen or more bars with 3 dozen+ brews on tap. 2 brewpubs and 1 nationally reknowned microbrewery.....

  • Lance Johnson - 11 years ago

Nothing better than a Bells Solsun. :)

  • Dave - 11 years ago

    Good beer here for sure.

  • Kevin Brown - 11 years ago

I got a gal and a beer in Kalamazoo!

Knew Larry Bell back in '83 when we bought beer in old milk jugs. Great to see Bell's doing well.
    From Fountain Hills, AZ

Cheers to Kalamazoo, Michigan, original home of Gibson Guitar, Checker Cab, the dissolvable pill (from The Upjohn Company), NFL's Greg Jennings, and Bell's great beers.

Cincinnati has a long rich history in brewing beer. With the introduction of craft brewers, Moerlein Lager House, Listermann Brewing Supply & Mfg, Mt. Carmel Brewing Company, Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, MadTree Brewing, Triple Digit Brewing Co., Rivertown Brewing Co. , Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co., Blank Slate Brewing Company and Samuel Adams it is growing very quickly.

Kalamazoo hands down, its like a candy store for beer.

  • Gino Schafer - 11 years ago

Replying to Chris who said "Bell's is overrated. Oberon is overcommercialized pulp. "

Bell's puts out a consistent product day after day, year after year. I go to the brewery often and always find high quality flavorful, interesting beers on tap. Perhaps it is you and your inexperienced palate that are the problem.

I hear Bell's is opening a brewery in Escanaba. Can't wait to visit!

  • Kara - 11 years ago

Yes.. Go Kalamazoo! Put this town on your calendar and come stay at Kara's Kottages, the most stylish and comfortable lodging in town!! Most of the brewpubs are within walking distance of it, too : ).

  • Shaun Wayman - 11 years ago

Sorry folks, I love all of the great beer in Michigan, but nobody beats Kazoo.

  • chris - 11 years ago

Bell's is overrated. Oberon is overcommercialized pulp. I went to the brewery last year and they had nothing interesting. Seems like they are cutting back on the quality of their beers to scale. Gotta give props to two hearted though.

For good beer, check out Dark Horse in Marshall or Right Brain in TC.

  • Luis - 11 years ago

Kzoo is a must for beer connoisseurs all over the world. From its iconic Two Hearted to the summer loving Oberon. Don't forget to visit Bell's and Beer Exchange.

  • Gonzo Haner - 11 years ago

With Gonzo's Biggdogg Brewing , Boatyard, Arcadia and Bell's in downtown Kalamazoo we will be the beer mecca in the United States. Certainly some great brews to be drank.

  • Brian Hill - 11 years ago

Kalamazoo is #1 now and will be even more of a #1 with the opening of "Gonzo's BiggDogg Brewing" in the Fall of 2013. Cheers!

  • Jim Stoddard - 11 years ago

  • Someone - 11 years ago

GR does not blow away Kalamazoo...Oberon alone makes GR look like a wet rat.

  • Barry Meyer - 11 years ago

Seriously, not a single NW city on the list, I guess this is a list of amateur brew cities then!

  • Bil - 11 years ago

Once Kalamazoo got on there as an option, it really took off!
My father in-law took a beer bus tour out of Dayton and Kalamazoo was the high light........Bell's in particular.
West Michigan is loaded with micros and brew pubs and is blessed with two of the best micros in the country - Bell's in Kalamazoo and Founder's in Grand Rapids. Of course Bell's is number 1 with Founder's a very distant 2nd. :)

  • RJ - 11 years ago

  • Fritz Allhoff - 11 years ago

Ashley's in Ann Arbor is a fantastic place for beer; they just don't make it there. Kalamazoo--where I live--is great, but I'd still put Traverse City higher, at least in part because the beer scene is more walkable.

We have bells, what more needs to be said? Hopslam is where it's at. In addition, it's the most wonderful small downtown you'll ever meet with many other great brewery's. it's perfect.

I'm sorry, but without Fort Collins Colorado this list is an epic failure. The city boasts 17 breweries in it's city limits and half a dozen beer fests through out the year. Hell, the dive bars have 40 odd beers on tap...
