I would love to see a cure for Tay-Sach's disease. My friend recently lost two children to the battle against Tay-Sach's and it would be a great tribute of their short lives to finally find a cure. God Bless you for including this in you 10K.

My vote did in fact go to Sophia's Heart Foundation. Danny may have had a national platform to bring SHF to everyones attention, but no one can deny that his story has touched our hearts. God has truly blessed this young man with a vision of not only honoring his late wife, but taking her wishes to the next level, by creating SHF to help children/families that are less fortunate.

And for those of you complaining about this or that. SHUP and donate $10K of your money to a worthy cause.
I was pumping this thing on scout.com, which won the Campbells Soup Click for Cans charity drive - literally, scout.com's PackerReport forum amassed over 175,000 clicks in just 2 days, thanks to me and a few others urging members to get involved - and still, Nick was nowhere NEAR getting those 10,000 followers. Even our massive efforts could only click one time, and I'm sure we added a few hundreds, but 10,000 is a BIG number.
If Danny or whomever he is got up enough people to put this over the top, who the HELL are you people to complain. At least SOMEONE is getting a charitable donation, and in the end THAT is what counts - not how YOU personally feel slighted by the fact it wasn't YOUR favorite choice.
IT AIN'T YER MONEY, HUNNI.

So many worthy causes and so many people needing help.
St. Judes treated my little 5 year old cuz for medulloblastoma, a rare and fatal disease, that strikes mercilessly with a less than 14% survival rate and even smaller complete recovery rate. He's been in remission for a couple years now since they removed and treated the second tumor.
Humane Societies, I got my last 3 cats there. They do worthy work too.
But foremost in my list is Habitat for Humanity. I contribute to them each year in their May fixer-upper when men and women from our local Trade Unions descend on several houses and fix them up for old and disabled citizens. They help so many people and make such good use of the money all year round, it's hard to NOT say they are the ones I feel deserve money in a big way.

Since it looks like SHF is going to get the donation, maybe some of you who who voted for SHF will think Tay Sachs is deserving charity and maybe make a personal donation to the website. There is a link to make a donation. I have read everything on that site and my heart goes out to those babies and families. I hope and pray they continue to get donations to give these family's hope that a cure can be found. The donations go for research in treatments and ultimately a cure! I hope some of you consider opening your hearts and contribute in some small way.

As a member of the CTSF, no, we were not informed of this poll. We were not even sure if it was legit, but someone else in the CTSF family follows Nick and urged him to include us. We have no idea if he is doing some sort of walk, run, or what. I do not know when this poll ends. The families of Tay-Sachs children are a pretty tight bunch and once this was discovered we spread the work. American Express did a similar thing a few years ago and our small charity actually made it to the top 15. We are small but mighty. All of these charities are excellent. In fact, many Tay-Sachs children have been blessed through Make-A-Wish, who is also in the running. No matter what the outcome, or people's reason for voting, we hope the money is put to good use. At the very least, we brought our cause to the attention of some people who may not have been aware of the disease. We assure you all, if the money is given to Curetay-sachs.org, it will be used for research currently being conducted for a cure or treatment. It is a shame there are so many negative comments on here. God Bless.

After doing some research, it is my professional opinion as a social worker that Sophia's Heart duplicates services that are provided by your tax dollars. It is my job to do the things this NON-501(c)3 organization does. So, reality TV fans, don't complain when your taxes go up, because remember, you willingly give to organizations that provide exactly the same social programming as the government.
My thoughts and prayers are with the noble, time-honored organizations that will be losing out on a generous gift so that reality TV fans can ingratiate themselves to a TV personality.

I voted for Sophia's Heart. Not because I am such a huge fan of Danny Gokey. I like him, but I am an Adam fan all the way! :-) I voted for SHF because I believe in what it stands for. I am a music teacher and have seen so many children who could benefit from music not be able to take it because they come from families who simply cannot pay the fees to keep an instrument. Believe it or not music is an important part of a child's life and not just to learn the music, it is a therapy as well. Also, SHF is going to save lives as well. I don't know where some of you get off by saying that you are taking money away from dying children, in my opinion not voting for SHF is taking away money from dying children as well. I mean it is going to help children in need in so many ways. All of the charities listed are worthwhile charities but many of them only help a specific cause. SHF is going to be helping children who are sick, with ANY illness, if they need help, they will be helped. As far as Danny not knowing how to run a charity. If I remember correctly there was a certain AI alum who started a charity based on a project he had to do to complete college. It wasn't even a real charity, just a paper he had to write. The fans started giving money to this charity so he started it and it is a huge success that has helped alot of handicapped children lead the life that they so deserve to live. The National Autism Project was started out of love for children and mankind just as Sophia's Heart has been started. Say what you want to say about Danny Gokey, but I ask of you PLEASE don't do it on here! This is not a forum about Danny or AI!!! This is for charity. If you believe that your charity deserves the money more then I encourage you to explain why you believe so. But, if you are going to attack the founder of a charity to discredit the charity then you need to be attacking the founders of all the other charities that you didn't vote for to discredit those as well. Leave personal opinions aside and think of the children and the work to be done! I find all of this very childish and I can't believe grown people would act in such a way!

People should know that 98 cents out of every dollar raised by Cure Tay-Sachs goes DIRECTLY to research - there are NO paid employees, all volunteers! I know, firsthand, how much those with Tay-Sachs suffer and how much pain they are in. Please, kindly consider voting for and supporting The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation. If the children had the ability to speak, they would thank you themselves...
Can you imagine watching babies, toddlers, preschoolers - or even older kids or your grandparents suddenly begin seizing uncontrollably, losing their ability to see, swallow, move? It is TERRIBLY heartwrenching! Please think of the PEOPLE for whom we are fighting!

Since it looks like SHF is going to get the donation, maybe some of you who who voted for SHF will think Tay Sachs is deserving charity and maybe make a personal donation to the website. There is a link to make a donation. I have read everything on that site and my heart goes out to those babies and families. I hope and pray they continue to get donations to give these family's hope that a cure can be found. The donations go for research in treatments and ultimately a cure! I hope some of you consider opening your hearts and contribute in some small way.

As a member of the CTSF, no, we were not informed of this poll. We were not even sure if it was legit, but someone else in the CTSF family follows Nick and urged him to include us. We have no idea if he is doing some sort of walk, run, or what. I do not know when this poll ends. The families of Tay-Sachs children are a pretty tight bunch and once this was discovered we spread the work. American Express did a similar thing a few years ago and our small charity actually made it to the top 15. We are small but mighty. All of these charities are excellent. In fact, many Tay-Sachs children have been blessed through Make-A-Wish, who is also in the running. No matter what the outcome, or people's reason for voting, we hope the money is put to good use. At the very least, we brought our cause to the attention of some people who may not have been aware of the disease. We assure you all, if the money is given to Curetay-sachs.org, it will be used for research currently being conducted for a cure or treatment. It is a shame there are so many negative comments on here. God Bless.

There was somebody who claimed that Danny's fans have been voting many times and therefore getting the result distorted. Don't you know that is not possible to vote more than once, unless you have access to many PCs with different IP addresses. So, there goes that theory out of the window..
As an European I just can't believe some of the horrible stuff you people say about Danny. Some of you should seriously get your heads examined..In my opinion this whole American Idol thing has gone too far. Give Danny a break and let him show what he can do with his charity. Danny, I wish you all the strength in your work .

After doing some research, it is my professional opinion as a social worker that Sophia's Heart duplicates services that are provided by your tax dollars. It is my job to do the things this NON-501(c)3 organization does. So, reality TV fans, don't complain when your taxes go up, because remember, you willingly give to organizations that provide exactly the same social programming as the government.
My thoughts and prayers are with the noble, time-honored organizations that will be losing out on a generous gift so that reality TV fans can ingratiate themselves to a TV personality.

Voted 4 SHF!!! I think it's genuine and has a deep purpose... Kids just deserve it! If you searched, you could see a bit of their job.. I hope SHF makes a huge diference on all those kids life... and the others to come!

I voted for Sophia's Heart Foundation. The idea of having a charity foundation for children's sickness is one of the best ideas anyone could possibly come up with. I know there are other foundations doing the same, but this foundation especially hits me on a more personal level.

I voted for Sophia's Heart. Not because I am such a huge fan of Danny Gokey. I like him, but I am an Adam fan all the way! :-) I voted for SHF because I believe in what it stands for. I am a music teacher and have seen so many children who could benefit from music not be able to take it because they come from families who simply cannot pay the fees to keep an instrument. Believe it or not music is an important part of a child's life and not just to learn the music, it is a therapy as well. Also, SHF is going to save lives as well. I don't know where some of you get off by saying that you are taking money away from dying children, in my opinion not voting for SHF is taking away money from dying children as well. I mean it is going to help children in need in so many ways. All of the charities listed are worthwhile charities but many of them only help a specific cause. SHF is going to be helping children who are sick, with ANY illness, if they need help, they will be helped. As far as Danny not knowing how to run a charity. If I remember correctly there was a certain AI alum who started a charity based on a project he had to do to complete college. It wasn't even a real charity, just a paper he had to write. The fans started giving money to this charity so he started it and it is a huge success that has helped alot of handicapped children lead the life that they so deserve to live. The National Autism Project was started out of love for children and mankind just as Sophia's Heart has been started. Say what you want to say about Danny Gokey, but I ask of you PLEASE don't do it on here! This is not a forum about Danny or AI!!! This is for charity. If you believe that your charity deserves the money more then I encourage you to explain why you believe so. But, if you are going to attack the founder of a charity to discredit the charity then you need to be attacking the founders of all the other charities that you didn't vote for to discredit those as well. Leave personal opinions aside and think of the children and the work to be done! I find all of this very childish and I can't believe grown people would act in such a way!

This is a generous offer that has the potential to make a real difference for whichever charity is selected. Those turning this into negative drama are detracting from the good and should be ashamed.

I understand many children and people die from all those deseases, but more children are in need of love, support, a stable family... not to say one charity is better than the other, I'm just excersizing my freedom to vote, I choose SHF "One Heart touching Many"

As an elementary school teacher Sophia had a real passion for helping children; they were her love.

If you really want to get nit-picky about these charities- I can tell you that MOST of them are not listed on "Charity Navigator or AIP, but of the few that are "Habit for Humanity got a B- NOT A GREAT RATING.

People should know that 98 cents out of every dollar raised by Cure Tay-Sachs goes DIRECTLY to research - there are NO paid employees, all volunteers! I know, firsthand, how much those with Tay-Sachs suffer and how much pain they are in. Please, kindly consider voting for and supporting The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation. If the children had the ability to speak, they would thank you themselves...
Can you imagine watching babies, toddlers, preschoolers - or even older kids or your grandparents suddenly begin seizing uncontrollably, losing their ability to see, swallow, move? It is TERRIBLY heartwrenching! Please think of the PEOPLE for whom we are fighting!

Had a tough decision on this one....torn between a few as I am a huge supporter of the Humane Society thanks to my two awesome kitties.....but I had to Go Go Go with Gokey and voted for Sophia's heart. No matter who wins, the donation will be greatly appreciated and Kudos to Nick Barnett for doing this.
