If I want to know what is really happening in the news-I go to FOX-they are definitely fair and balanced and have consistent contributors from both sides of the fence. I think the White House is a bit insecure and is beginning to look desperate. We are all okay if we agree with this administration--if we question things, then we are labeled some nasty name by them. Since other news organizations are saying that they were late in picking up on some of FOX News Stories--that says something. We STILL have a free press-hope it stays that way.
Bob Quisenberry - 16 years ago
None of the news broadcast are fair and balanced but Fox is no better or worse than any of the other networks. It is terrifying that the President of the United States takes it upon him or her self to single out one network to criticize publically. Even Richard Nixon had the good sense and fairness to criticize the news representative of him in total without focusing on any network or any reporter. To do this shows power run amuck.
Ed - 16 years ago
Even if the press, or a particular media outlet, is biased against it, the White House must provide the answers to the criticisms it receives on its policies. It is childish and improper to use the equivalent of an ad hominem attack against the media or outlet.

I for one only watch Fox News, I am 46 years old and have had a job since i was 15 and I understand that our government is and has been corrupt for a very long time. Fox is the only news source that is asking the hard questions. They are not perfect, but they don't have ties to the white house like NBC - the National Barak Channel. I also believe that the current admin. in washington is by far the most corrupt in US history. I do not only blame the Dem.s for all of the problems our country has, because the GOP is just as dirty and corrupt. All in washington are to blame as they have all raped the working people of this country and both sides allow big business to do the same, and yes the persident is allowing it to, it's just his friends this time. I will also say that I believe that everything happens for a reason, with that said why do you think we got what we have in the white house? I think - punishment! If honest working americans don't stand up soon, our country is doomed ! I would like to close by pointing out that NPR is by the government - for the government and extremely liberal. with that said, I would be concerned that your little b.s. poll about fox does not look so well for you, your side should be way ahead don't you think?

I believe Fox news - which is to the right is much closer to center than MSNBC is on the left. At least Fox asks questions instead of being the cheering section for Obama that MSNBC is.

I was stationed in KS, where (unless you had Sat Radio) the only news talk radio I could get was NPR... I listened to it, and I just remember thinking SO many times, "Wow, they framed THAT REALLY badly." or "Given the way they are presenting this, the reporter might as well be a commentator instead of a news journalist." It was really odd being in a Red state that only had NPR (i.e. Left leaning news radio) to listen to. Now I'm in MN, with Amy "Blowhard" Klobuchar and Al "What a Joke" Franken (names I just made up), and we have 100.3 KTLK.
Fox has more commentators than most other TV news channels, but at least you know where they're coming from instead of "journalists" who try to hide their point of view in shallow insults and framing.
If you're going to be Left, BE LEFT!! Don't hide it. If you're going to be Right, BE RIGHT!! I'm tired of all these hidden agendas and money laundering schemes to get money to corrupt organizations. Let's throw everyone out of Washington DC and start over from scratch.

The question didn't give an opportunity to agree that Fox should be allowed to report and they lease without sounding like a Fox supporter. I occasionally listed to Fox News which does ask some questions the other networks don't, but they do have some commentators who have gone way over the right-leaning edge. However, it is disturbing that the WH would want to suppress their right to say whatever they see fit. It is the audience that should decide which networks do and don't survive. Sadly, if CNN took a good look at their programming they would see where they are lacking.

For some reason we are not allowed to ask this President the tough question. I remember watch news conferences when Reagan was President and Sam Donaldson would ask a question and continue to follow up with the same question. President Obama for some reason is afraid of hard to answer question. Fox in my view is not afraid to ask the hard question. I get tired of the softball questions from all the media.

For those who think Fox News is not fair and balanced that just shows that you do not actually watch Fox News. Sure there are those opinion people like Glenn Beck and Bill O'Riley but even they will have people from both sides on to give the opposite view. But the ones reporting the news do just that. They have liberals on there but one can not tell which are liberal or conservative because they just report on the news. Just because Fox reports on something that is negative about Obama and his White House does not make them unfair. They are just reporting the news. At least they ARE reporting what is happening which is more than can be said for NBC, ABC or CBS. I like to heara both sides to an argument or issue and the only place to get that is Fox News.

A vote for the White House in this poll is a vote for censorship, plain and simple. I rarely watch the news, cable, network or otherwise, and I understand that regardless which station it is, there is bias one way or the other. One cannot live, be educated and be a normal human being without developing biases and it shows in every aspect of one's life. It show on Fox, CBS, NBC, whatever . . . to the right and to the left. But the government is hitting a slippery slope when it attempts to stifle dissent by limiting access tot he media outlets that only support the administration. Obama's staff has done us all a big favor by making their intent so obvious. This is a major PR gaffe on their part.
it is obvious that the libs are fascist. Block Fox News?, why not block CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC,Time,Newsweek, and the other 95% of media that is biased towards liberals?
people are voting with their feet(or at least their eyeballs by watching Fox more than liberal cable media). Rember libs, a poll is only valid if the liberal point of view wins.

Fox News asks the questions other "news" networks ignore. Fox News encourages viewers to THINK, something the WH and other news networks don't want to happen.
I watch one or another of the other news channels to get their slant then switch to Fox News to learn what is behind the biased stories put forth by NBC, ABC, CNN etc.
I want answers to questions, not patronizing drivel. That is what is being passed out as news by the other networks.

We must all remember that the government, like it or not, is us with authority given to elected officials to work on our behalf. To this point in the current year I have seen nothing that gives me hope that what we the citizens want, and what the elected officials want, even come close to a united decision. However, the beauty of this country is we have the right to vote, and that right should be excercised next voting season. I'm for taking 95% of those in office out upon election and start anew. It can't be any worse than what we have now and it will bring in new ideas and thoughts. So, moral of the story is: Don't forget to vote for the candidate who will make a change being a new Senator/Representative and a new President.
You are clueless. Your comment shows just how "far to the left" you are. If you believe that Fox News is a propaganda machine that makes up things, not a news source, then it is clear to us that do listen to the station that you are just another liberal propagandist spewing "baseless" accusations. ALL media is biased, including Fox. Get your head out of the liberal you know what and you will see that there is no balanced reporting in this nation anymore. The New York Times is biased, ABC is biased, CBS is blatantly biased. The one that comes closes to a balance report is NPR and we all know they lean to the left as well. At least there is ONE Television station out there whose bias is to the right. In order for this nation to survive we need that balance of left leaning and right leaning stations to remain. Otherwise, as stated by Pepe above, "there will be "no need" for reporters... they will be replaced by a government central propaganda nationaly sindicated news agency...not unlike Pravda. They'll be flat out of a job." But then again, based on your comments, you are OK with that happening.
Richard - 16 years ago
Whether you agree or disagree with the conservative or liberal perspetive any news organization may demonstrate, we all need to support the right of the people to have the option of hearing that news perspective. If the Obama organization wants to be in control of what news is permitted to be broadcast, they need to move to a different country. If the Obama white house can't stand the heat of opinions that differ from theirs, they are in the wrong business in the wrong country.

All the hoopla over news organizations reporting being "biased" really shouldn't be the greatest concern to us. What should concern us is when american citizens rely heavily on news organizations "personalities" to help them make important poltical decisions. Would it not be better to educate ourselve by actually studyng the legislation that our Representatives want to impose on us. With todays technology, we are only a "click" away from communciating with our Representatives, whose decisions will in the end affect our daily lives. I fear we have become lazy, wanting to be spoon fed by a media that seems to intersted more in ratings that accomplishing its constitutional duty. I can harldy wait until the next election so I can join the camp of voters who are looking for a common sense Statesman, not a politician.

JPH It's meaningless because it's an INTERNET poll about something that can't be decided by consensus.
Facts are not up for popular vote. When people stopped believing the earth was flat, it didn't change shape. It was always an oblate spheroid, regardless of what the popular opinion of the day was.
Fox News says things that aren't true to incite hysteria and fear among conservatives, and people who want to believe those things are true are predisposed to believe Fox News is "fair and balanced" and "asks the tough questions" when these "tough questions" are usually baseless accusations designed to plant seeds. That's the issue. It's a propaganda machine, not a news source.
And as for all the comments about the "liberal media"... when you're on the far right, everyone is to your left.
Tom H - 16 years ago
Don't read too much into this poll... it is meaningless as data. It is just a battle between sides to see who can get the most voters to come and make a click.
Fox News is the only News Channel that gives a fair and balanced view. The others are obviously "Liberal" sided. Fox shows both ways. Lets face it folks, you really screwed the pooch when you elected Obama.

The old addage about history repeating itself has never been more appropriate. Also, if you know your history, you can predict the future. In this case, I'm refering to de Tocqueville who predicted the demise of any democracy 200 years after it's inception due to people discovering with their vote they have access to the public coffers. When he wrote in 1835 the 2 volumn "Democracy in America" he admiringly chronicled the rapid success of our young republic but warned against what we are currently experiencing. We've lasted a bit longer than the 200 years, but I can see the beginning of the end...mostly because we've lost an education system that works and most of the "forth estate" is not functioning By the way, after the democracy fails, the result is dictatorship, followed eventually by anarchy. It's in the books...read about it.

Matthew Lee: "Also if you did actually listen to their program, you would know that they do not use emotional pleas..."
I listen to NPR only occasionally, just to remind me why I don't support the ideology it presents. In the very limited time I gave it, I heard an impassioned, almost cry-baby-ish ACORN worker lamenting how they're just trying to help the poor and they're so harrassed now after the scandal broke (thank God for Breitbart, Giles, O'Keefe, 3 lone people now being sued for millions each by poor little victimized ACORN, who incidentally regains their government funding on the 31st.) The interviewer just listened sympathetically, as if it had been Mother Theresa being put out of commission.
Dennis Miller is right; Breitbart/Giles/O'Keefe should get the Pulitzer. This ACORN revelation is like the Watergate meets Abu Ghraib scandal of the left. And why is NO ONE (again, but Fox and these rogues on the right) daring to make the connection between Obama and ACORN? Less than a year ago he promised them a place at his decision table. They were still eligible for $8.5 billion in taxpayer money when they were under investigation for voter fraud. Read NPR's own Frank James on this scandal; he writes that the problem isn't with the organization, but the background of the people who work there. In other words he argues that since they're poor, disadvantaged and minority, they can't be held accountable for enabling child sex slavery and tax fraud. Why is it that whenever liberals talk about the people they claim to want to help or defend, it's always totally condescending?
Incidentally, when Whole Foods CEO John Mackey merely wrote an op-ed proposing free market health care solutions (as opposed to government control) liberals once again manufactured their synthetic outrage and boycotted. Another reminder of how outraged liberals are at the idea of people actually helping themselves, without a handout forced from someone else. That week I went to Whole Foods, where a cashier told me how he got cussed out over the phone by someone irate over Mackey's op-ed. Wonder if he'll get air time on NPR. Doubt it.
I just want to comment that having read thru many of the comments here, I am greatly surprised and, unexpectedly, delighted. I often feel and think rather cynically about my fellow citizens. Disappointed actually. Just to give you an idea of where I am coming from, I was in Haight Ashbury in 1967 (hitchhiked from MN) and returned from Vietnam (a Marine) at the ripe old age of 19.
What surprised me by this survey and the comments, is how the vast majority of commenter’s whether right, left or floating in the stratosphere, are standing up for Freedom of Speech and against Big Govt Censorship. And this is an NPR site! I watch FOX but also watched Julia Child and This Old House and NPR News since before most of the posters here were even born. Yeah, I'm kind of a Renaissance Man.
Ok, cut to the quick: BRAVO Posters and Fellow Americans! You have made this cynics day. I never wanted to be cynical about my Country. Reading these posts has given me pause. I've watched Fox 'News'. It's not news. It's been shown that the 'news' portions echo what the 'opinion' portions of the previous night have said. They couch their words very carefully, 'some people are saying...' well, the 'some people' are their own opinionists! It's not the responsibility of journalists to create news. A news organization should not be promoting and actively encouraging demonstrations. A news organization should not be getting donations for the republican party. Fox is propaganda.
I expect my news to be as unbiased as possible. I expect that journalists will present me with the facts and if there's a disagreement over something that they will show both sides.

I keep reading comments that somehow FOX is being censored... how is it being stopped from reporting anything? It's not censorship to refuse to talk to people. It would be censorship to shut down the network, which is not in any way being suggested by anyone.
I just don't get where people jump from the simple and straightforward position to not do interviews on a particular network (who are free to report anything they want, as they have been quite actively doing all along) means that the administration is in any way censoring them... it's like the definition of censorship just changed in the last year, but only with respect to American publications.
China, Iran, and North Korea all have actual censorship. You can be arrested and / or killed by the state for publishing something that the state disapproves of. What we have here is simply a relatively congenial disagreement about the purpose of the administration's public relations practices.

Freedon of the press is absolutely essential to a democracy. The White House is dangerous when it discriminates against any form of the media. Fox alone has asked many questions of importance and pursued the answers. It is amazing that the other news channels and some newspapers have ignored important issues that Fox has covered. What form of intimidation did those so derelict of their duties endure?
The old Grouch - 16 years ago
The purist form of NEWS is that it is presented factually, non-sensational and without any slant, either conservative or liberal. Then the recipient (the public) can make up its own mind how to perceive it. In today's world you either have Conservative news, or Liberal news, both of which are primarily served up as Entertainment rather than news. I believe that FOX News attempts to present issues from both sides, asks the harder questions and lets the viewer, listener or reader make up their own mind about what is reported. The overwhelming vote for FOX in this survey says that the American People prefer it that way, too.

Study after study has shown that FNC's viewers are consistently under/mis-informed regarding factual matters (a recent example would be the "Obama birth" issue).
FNC takes an overly sensational approach to their media content -- while this may garner more viewers, it is not good journalism; particularly if your tagline is "fair and balanced." The main problem is that FNC promotes such radical polarization of the political spectrum that anything not completely ultra-conservative is labeled "liberal" -- rather than having a wide gamut of gray areas, FNC creates distinct black / white regions, with the dividing line placed squarely on the "Conservative" border. No room for moderates here.
MSNBC & CNN aren't any better, for that matter.
Honestly, the most "fair and balanced" news coverage I've seen lately is Jon Stewart -- at least he is only beholden to comedy, rather than a political party (admittedly, he is liberally-biased himself, but he certainly does not pull punches when ridiculing his own political party.)
FNC fans may think NPR is "liberal" but even in the dark heart of the Bush administration, you never heard anyone on NPR calling for a rebellion; nor did you ever see Renee Montagne or Steve Innskeep at anti-Bush rallies trying to stir up trouble, as Glen Beck and Sean Hannity did recently at a Teabaggers protest.

How any American who believes in our traditional values and Free Speech, not to mention Freedon of the Press can possible vote in favor of this is beyond comprehension.
Obama's war against the network is about much more than Fox News. It is about his and his fellow liberals' intolerance for political dissent and their war on political criticism from any corner. Unless you shower Obama with adulation 24/7, you are ripe for targeting. They will abuse the power and prestige of the office of the presidency to "call you out." They have personally called out Rush Limbaugh and other media critics. They've targeted conservative talk radio for neutering, having assigned a Federal Communications Commission diversity czar that very task.
Do you affirmative voters really want Obama controlling our banks, our auto industry, our loan policies, our media, and our health care? How , how can you be so blind as not to see what is really happening?

There are a lot of instances that I stand behind the government in their facist decissions. With current standings of the government and speakers of the house throwing our due process out the window, I am appauled that they would dare try to take our first ammendment rights away. If tabloid magazines are allowed to talk trash about everyone with no recourse, then Fox news should not be held liable or silenced for their process of reporting. I applaud Fos News for taking a strong stance on either side of the government. They are not biased against any one person or form of political party. Call a spade a spade in my opinion. This is a free country, right now anyways..we are not National Socialists, Communist, Marxist's!!! We are a free country. Time to remember your values and stand accountable for wrong decissions!

The majority of these voters, against Fox news, are strict NPR listeners and liberal talk radio listeners. I wonder how many of them have ever watched Fox news. How can they explain the high ratings, Fox gets when a good portion of their viewers are Democrats! I watch Fox news, most of the time, but do not limit myself to Fox news. I do find Fox to be more balanced in their approach than MSNBC or CNN or any of your major news networks. That's not to say that Fox doesn't have some real bias.
One example is Hannity. He is a hard-hitting supporter of the right-wing conservative view, and seldom turns his head to the left. It's one of the criticisms I have about his current show. When he and Alan Combs hosted the show, it was balanced, and I often thought that Combs was more prepared with a better argument.
On the other hand, Fox has commentators that lean the other way. Greta Van Susteren and Shepard Smith, both lean to the left, with O'Reilly in the middle. This is a more balanced network than any of the others. Where have you hear about the real complications of the Health-Care Bill or Cap and Trade? How many of you NPR listeners realize how high your taxes will go up if either one of these two bills pass, and what these bills will do to our economy? How many of you realize that if you don't enroll in one of these health-care plans, you're going to be fined and that fine is significant?. This is where Fox news is different, it gives you this information an hand undistorted view, unlike the other networks.
The real issue here, and it's a scary one, is how President Obama is using his office, to in effect, censor the Fox News agency. This should alarm anyone, liberal, moderate or conservative. There is no place in our country for this to go on. Don't forget, this President also asked you to turn in your neighbor, if they were descending against the health-care bill and to submit any e-mails that opposed the President on this issue. President Obama couched this by saying that he wanted to dispel the un-truths that were out there. Have no doubt about it, he has developed an enemies list by doing this and he tried to intimidate the American people away from free speech. This is despicable. It was Fox news that focused on this, causing the administration to pull this surveillance website.
We only need to look further down south towards Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez to see what censorship and control the press will bring you.

The MSM should be looking over their shoulders on this because if the WH can try something like this with Fox,then if someday the other MSM's deceide to really ask questions about this Administrations actions the WH's pat on their heads they get now, could become a slap to them and the first Ammendment.

Because of their liberal bias I have not watched any network news except for
Fox News in the past 5+ years. I am old-school where a person's word was
their bond and lying was considered one of the worst personal traits a person
could have. Obama, his administration, and the liberal Democrats are liars to
the point if Obama, Emmanuel, Reid, Pelosi, Schumer, Franks, Dodd, and others of their ilk said the sky was blue, I would run outside to check it out.
I understand what the liberal Democrats are trying to do to our country and I
am not buying any of it. They have already proven themselves. If they are
for it, I am against it. Thank God for Fox News and the conservative talk
show hosts! One of my grandfathers died in the Revolutionary War fighting
for the freedom we enjoy today and damned if I am going to allow a bunch of
liberals destroy our country and the values on which it was built. Go Fox News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NPR often presents more in depth viewpoints or information no other news source brings. Recently I listened to an interview with a healthcare economist whose factual presentation finally shed clear light on the insurance dilemma. In short, here is the factual evidence: Insurance companies are on the bottom of the list of profits of all US industries, around 2.2% and not SHAMELESS PROFITS WHICH THE WHITE HOUSE AND MANY CONGRESSMEN WRONGFULLY present to undermine insurance companies. Why don't they let insurance companies compete across state lines which would
DEFINITELY reduce premiums because of competitive pressures. Furthermore, there are thousand of small insurance companies that do NOT have enough market share to effectively negotiate with hospitals and doctors and therefore pay much higher fees to both hospital and doctors than the large insurance who have enough muscle (critical mass) to negotiate far better pricing with hospitals or doctors. The state of Mass. has regulation in place that insurance companies pay the same costs to hospitals and doctors no matter what their size. There is no individual contracts that are more favorable. Why is it that Congress and the White House are unable and/or unwilling to look at the facts rather then bully through their so called beneficial solutions which will add a trillion in debt and tax everybody with additional payments and a punishment tax if they don't agree to be part of a very poorly designed new health plans?

All Socialist and Marxist want to get rid of FOX News....just like Hitler did and Iran just lately....Freedom of speech is being attacked....and nobody cares?
Fox news ask the questions that should be ask. Voters have a right to know.
The sad part is that the White House doesn't answer the simplest of questions.
They give them the run around. I really don' believe much unless it comes
from Fox. Our country is in Big trouble. I pray that our God will help us.

People in America have lost the understanding of a free press. Currently FOX is the only news organization that is honoring the sacred right to be the watchdogs of government. Fox is the only that is protecting "we the people".
A free press is an indication of freedom, liberty and democracy. A press subject to the government is an indication of a dictatorship. If Obama continues attacking the only news organization that has the audacity to criticize government, then that is a "coercive" way of abolishing the free press, the freedom of soeech and hence the establishing of a dictatorship.
Please America, wake up!!!!!!!

I wonder if this administration is going the Venezuela way?! The white house and the current occupant is emulating Hugo Chavez. They are trying to muzzel the media, the chamber of commerc, the doctors, the investtors in the Chrysler Corp. and many others. This is not "Chicago Way". There is no need for a baseball club fot those who express disagreements with this curent administration. Are we heading for an Obama dictatorship??!!!

I'm a 33 year Air Force vet. I learned several years ago that Fox News was the only news organization to give the military a fair shake when it came to reporting on combat ops. Consequently, when I want fair and balanced news, I watch Fox. When I want comedy, I watch Keith Olbermoron. It seems Obama has a different perspective than I do. It also seems reasonable that he would since he's never done a blessed thing in his life that amounts to a hill of beans, except fool 50% of the voters last fall.

It seems that the White House and particularly Mr. Obama wants to hinder anyone or any organization that doesn't agree with him and what he is trying to do to our country. Where's the democracy in that? I wholeheartedly agree with the Fox New Network and believe they are courageous in speaking out. Yes, it takes courage to speak out against leaders who are bullying our people.

If the president cant be questioned on issues and then respond so the citizens of the united states know where he stands, then we have a problem. Im not fan of any news network. They seem to have their own agenda. But, this really shows that our current president is not repeat not doing his best for this country. He has his own agenda which certainly is not in the best interest of our great country.
Duke - 16 years ago
When we speak of "freedom of the press" we mean EVERYONE, not just the news outlets that agree with the person who happens to be temporarily occupying the White House. For Obama to be barking at FOX News is like my dog barking at the paperboy.
It's unbecoming for any American President to assume this position, and it's cowardly to have his minions doing the dirty work for him on the various (non-Fox) talk shows.

Let me start by saying that I don't support Obama in most of what he does, I don't think he should have gotten the Nobel Prize, and I didn't vote for him (but I did vote).
If you want to know what happens, watch it, don't watch analysts and spectator commentators nitpick. I'm not just talking about Faux News here, I don't watch ANY of the daily newscasts. Everyone posting has access to the internet, USE IT. If you want to know what Obama said in ANY speech, go re-watch it; if you want to know whether someone actually said/did something that they're denying, there are probably 5 links proving it on the front page of your favorite search engine (with their own links so you can see the whole comment/act IN CONTEXT).
And as a side note, anyone who listens to campaign promises that are outside the realm of what the office normally works on, doesn't need to vote. The President is not the end-all-be-all of our government. We have a three pillar system with Congress making laws (based on who we elected we should get laws to represent our wants/needs), The President as a stop-gap to prevent laws that Congress passed that aren't in our best interest, and The Supreme Court to overturn laws that break our Constitution-given rights. So what if one office can't make another one update their website daily? So what if an aide to one office said that an organization that makes their money badmouthing his boss was wrong?
I'm sorry, but I don't even have the energy to finish this post. I'll be poking around at EFF.com for a bit or on catching up on the news via the tried and true method of research.

I would totally believe you if told me that every church in the state had a sermon last Sunday that had everyone vote on this poll.
I suppose I'm rather proud of myself for not even caring that Fox News exists. The downside of that is that everyone one the other side of the fence cares too much about it.
I also had a case of Prop 8 déjà vu.

Watching FOX news, makes me physically sick. To be quite realistic, they should be able to continue broadcasting their material, but I think the great gods of language would be appeased if they stopped calling themselves a News Broadcast, and I believe the viewers who support this broadcast would be more comfortable catching it slotted in before Jerry Springer as entertainment television.

American's need to know why the White House and Obama are not keeping his promises of transparency, new political tone in Washington, truthfulness, bi-partisanship, and posting bills on-line for 5 days before voting on them, etc that were made during the campaign. Thank God for Fox who has been busy doing the real work of the press for all the media. Fox makes the rest of the journalists, who has been in Obama's tank look bad. Democracy depends on a free press. If the White House does not like the truth about them being exposed they need to get their honesty and act together. NO MORE CHICAGO WAY, THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND WE HAVE A CONSTITUTION!!!

By the WH logic ABC, CBS, and NBC are not news organizations either since they only air 30 minutes of news out of every 24 hours. I didn't see, hear, or read where the WH wanted to deny them access, nor did they deny them access to POTUS for his propaganda interviews.

I am an NPR listener and a viewer of IPTV. No administration should be picking and choosing which news networks are worthy or unworthy. Our government has no business picking winners and losers in business either. The rent seekers in business should be boycotted at every turn. GE is one of the biggest offenders. The constitutional mandate of the press is to be a watchdog of government. Once the press is in bed with government the Republic is at risk. The press is abdicating its constitutional responsibility by endorsing and being complicit with any administration or government. Wake up America. You can no longer afford to be ambivalent.

All I can say is "ACORN anyone"? When you have video of at least 5 different ACORN offices offering advice on how to hide a prostitution ring and the head of ABC news knows nothing about it, the mainstream media is asleep at the wheel. We need Fox News!

Once again our government is getting to big and not allowing themselves to be held accountable. I lean to the right and consider myself to be a conservative, and I am always held accountaable to the government with a heavy tax burden with the business I run. And we should not allow Washington to pick and choose what media they will allow to report to the nation. The left wingers of this great country are well on their way of making us one of the weakest nations in the world. I LOVE MY COUNTRY BUT FEAR MY GOVERNMENT.
PhoenixDirt - 16 years ago
If any Republican Administration had singled out any of the networks, people would be absolutely screaming!! Fox News certainly has a conservative slant, just like the others have a liberal slant - but they are part of the media and they ask questions others won't. The press has not done their job in keeping the American People informed - many stories have never been aired and many questions have not been asked of the current administration. The fact that they rarely show up on Fox and are now trying to single out Fox News tells me that they have something to fear from the questions being asked.
montana_charlie - 16 years ago
The White House says Fox is not a 'news' organization, and all of those who criticize Fox target Hannity, O'Reilly, and other 'opinion columnists'...never the 80-odd% of the Fox airtime that is devoted to reporting 'straight news'.
When you listen to Sheppard Smith report the news, can you guess what party he belongs to? Can you detect any 'leaning' in the way he passes out the information?
Compare that delivery with your favorite 'news anchor' on another network.
Is there any hint in their delivery that suggests which 'side' is in the right?
Can you get a handle on the 'politics' of the person who wrote the copy on the teleprompter he/she is reading from?
If you can detect a general feeling of 'who's right and who's wrong' when receiving your news, you are getting 'biased' reporting. If you call yourself a liberal (or conservative) and hearing the news makes you 'feel good' in some way...they are telling you what you want to hear. And that is 'biased reporting'.
After Shep is finished, I feel like I know what's going on, but I don't know how HE feels about it.
That's waht 'fair and ballanced' is supposed to be.

Censorship is anti-Constitution. The press is supposed to be the watchdog of the government, not the lapdog. Fox is doing a service to this country by asking hard questions and giving us real investigative reporting.

Steve W has hit the nail on the head. Left, right, middle should not take a back seat to the truth. Doesn't it seem amazing that those on Fox, in previous administrations, or in the general public who speak the truth (even if it is tough or doesn't want to be heard) are the deamonized ones? Beware of the wolves in sheeps clothing.
Steve W from Ford - 16 years ago
What ever happened to "speaking truth to power"?
I don't care if Fox leans left, right or upside down, the point is that the President has all the actual power and we are all better served when dissenting voices are not squashed, whatever their point of view.
The current administration has gone way overboard in declaring various people "enemies" and they should stop. Does no one remember how Obama demonized the Chrysler bondholders when they tried to assert their legal rights?
How about the health insurance companies, or doctors or the tea partiers? Do they no longer have the constitutional RIGHT to criticise the existing power structure without being threatened by the White House?
This is scary stuff whether coming from a liberal or a conservative administration and it needs to STOP!
I am a long time NPR listener and it grieves me greatly that this obvious freedom of speech issue is not covered more relentlessly until this administration backs down.
Really people, if the same thing was being done by GW Bush, would we think it justified?
nicmar - 16 years ago
I favor fox news and believe msnbc parrots everything the administration favors. That being said, neither fox or msnbc should ever be musseled by any administration, be it bush or obama's. No free press and no freedom. Both fox and msnbc should never be musseled. This is dangerous and hints of dictatorship.
Fox's polls show that most people want to know how government answers their questions. These taxpayers have the right to know. Only guilt, answering a question openly, causes hesitation or refusal.
Let us all pull together. If there is something to be shameful for, each of us needs to address it. If you receive a paycheck because it is your job, then let's make sure it is done right. We are America, one and all, and best on the planet!

I use to watch the three major networks plus CNN but I never felt that I was receiving balanced coverage so I spend most of my time watching Fox where I get both sides. The American people had better wake up to the fact that this WH wants to control us. Do you remember a President, telling you to "be quiet"....shut up if you will. Sorry but that isn't very Presidential. Obama doesn't act like a President. He rips Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Insurance, Chamber of Commerce and others. I am 69 and never remember a President acting like a two bit politician. George Bush was smeared, call every vile name, accused of war crimes yet he didn't fight back but we aren't supposed to criticise anything Obama does. You are being controlled America.

Last time I checked MSM is not asking any tough questions. What's the dog's name is not in tough catagory. Now I'm not a reporter, but seems to me with the dollar falling, things not going well in the war, jobs disappearing, no growth for free market, inflation just around the corner, and lots of money disappearing, you'd think there might be a hard question or two in all these catagories of ills. The only news organization asking tough questions is Fox and guess what they get attacked by the WhiteHouse. Doesnt that strick anyone as strange/odd or has everyone lost all ojectivity in the presence of "the One"
Nichols Creek - 16 years ago
Of course the WH wants to silence FOX News. The POTUS has shown he is actually afraid to answer thier questions.
Term Limits, Tort Reform, Constitutionally Based Lawmakers.
The WH is just calling a spade a spade, that's it. No one cares if Fox wants to be the propaganda arm of the right, but they can't do that and be considered a legitimate news organization.
The WH spoke the "truth" to faux news "power". Good for them! It's about time! This is not an attempt to silence news,,,,it is an attempt to combat Murdoch's 24/7 propoganda machine.
I'm beginning to think that the most liberal element in our society is the most fascistic in that it always wants to stifle any dissenting opinion.
The White House should remember what one of their own (Democrats) had to say: If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.--Harry S. Truman
The WH spoke the "truth" to faux news "power". Good for them! It's about time! This is not an attempt to silence news,,,,it is an attempt to combat Murdoch's 24/7 propoganda machine.
A government that seeks to silence opposition is tyrannical.
I'm amazed that this so called "open administration" has done so much behind closed doors affecting such a large percentage of Americans. Free Speech is the foundation of our country! What about the bias found on all the other national news channels. The ONLY objective one comes from Jim Lehrer!!!
I have just hung up on my sister. Last week I hung up on my sister-in-law and the week before I hung up on my poor-little-ole-neice (my sister's step-daughter!) They are ALL sooo IGNORANT! And have you heard???..."IGNORANCE is the curse of the world!" They "democraps ALL" think their socialist, marxist pig of a president, Obama, is the Savior of the world!!!!! The last time I looked, the HOLY BIBLE said that would be Jesus Christ, The Son of God. I am so sick of liberal, progressive democraps! Whom do they think they are???? having the right to take from me to give to generations of welfare recipients??? I will do that all by myself...IF AND WHEN I WANT TO OR FEEL BENEVOLENT...BUT...lately, I DO NOT! The last time I checked, this was a free country. But that freedom is slipping away so fast it makes me sick at my stomach. That's why I have to hang up on these poor pathetic people whom I really do love.........but I cannot stand to be around them anymore.....or listen to them and their greedy-gut ideas: gimme, gimme, gimme! And FOX NEWS IS THE ONLY SOURCE IN NEWS THAT I TRUST! It surely is NOT abc, cbs, nbc, msnbc nor is it PBS! SO THERE!
This is a major PR gaffe on their part.
libs are communist, plain and simple folks
it is obvious that the libs are fascist.
Say goodbye to dem majority in 2010 and b hussein obama in 2012
Fox News asks the questions other "news" networks ignore.
Democrats are no longer really Democrats...they're LEFTISTS, let's stop pretending they aren't and call this turd a turd....including their left wing media propaganda wing in msnbc, cnn, and NPR.
Yeah, fun times. PZ Meyers at Pharyngula has decided that this has something to do with his "science" blog and so he is having his raving fans crash the poll and force it to support the way his raving liberal bias feels.
Randy, that comment is just ridiculous, you are saying that if the other guys wanted to do this then people would support it. Except they didn't, they're not, and Obama is.
Faux News our motto: " WE LIE YOU DECIDE "
One last comment.....do some research....if you want to see news stories on criticizing Libs or Repubs....you will find Fox News to be the most balanced of the major networks.....see for yourself.
So, when Bush was in office..or when a Republican returns to the WhiteHouse...would these SAME people be ok with it if the WH decided to ban MSNBC from their interviews...or the Huffington Post?
Amazing how people would possible dream of voting for silencing a critic. Those who voted in support of the WH...are simply ok with removing free speech and freedom of the press.
I weep for you.
Gail,
You are clueless.
Lol, i'm sorry but this poll should be taken down. Considering it allows for anyone to make multiple votes, it is completely meaningless.
Believe 1/4 of what you read, 1/4 of what you hear, 1/2 of what you see. Personally I don"t think media needs to be taking sides in politics.Just print facts.
Maybe there is more sanity out there than I thought. Here is proof of my Renaissance personality: "RIGHT ON PEOPLE" & "SEMPER FIDELIS"...!!!
Wow.
Dear Fox News fans:
Please learn the difference between "they say stuff I agree with" and "they're fair and balanced."
Let's at least be honest with ourselves and others, shall we?
love,
Gail
Don't they get it? Don't they understand? Once this Democratic Party's Socialist Leadership silences the press and television and then the public, as has been tried a few times since 1992 and are now closer than ever in oppressing free speech, under penalities of fines, loss of property and privelige, and imprisonment, check it out bills have been presented on the floor of congress, there will be "no need" for reporters...none, nicht, ngine, they will be replaced by a government central propaganda nationaly sindicated news agency...not unlike Pravda. They'll be flat out of a job.
And I think the poll is broken, I was able to vote at least 5 times.
Get some perspective, people...

I just want to congratulate everyone on the impressive Godwin Index that's just shy of 4 days.
Hilarious. I was wondering how far down the scroll I'd get before Godwin's Law kicked in.
Both sides are being a little sanctimonious here. Of course, it's a year one administration, they'll learn from this (I hope), but Fox is just being Fox.
WH, don't you know to never argue with an idiot? 'Cause when you do, other people can't tell the difference.
On to the next new non-news item, I suppose.
Oh, and all you Fox apologists, ask yourselves the last time you remember them asking GW and Friends a hardball question. Ever. *crickets* Don't give me impartial.
Please. The White House didn't recommend censuring Fox , just calling it for what it is; if you want unamerican pressuring of the press look into GW's handling of NBC,MSNBC and the NY Times; then tell me the Fox "news" service isn't milking this for all it's worth. Obama's only mistake is underestimating the whining that would take place. It's a PR stunt from FOX that probably could have been anticipated.
Notice all the spelling and grammar errors by the Fox nuts here. Draw your own conclusions,
I also agree that Steve W from Ford has it right. Some say the best 'defense' is a strong offense but to me, in this context of apparent 'press censorship', this methodology implies the White House has something to hide.....Obama's university records, birth records et al first come to my mind. At least, warts and all, GW Bush admitted his DUI.
I personally feel oppressed by this White House tactic and continue to fear we as a Nation are loosing our basic precepts of what freedom is all about.
Like Doug, I too support the Constitution...the Constitutution supports Fox, as well as CNN, etc.
Nuff said...
Fox news will continue to grow.
Everyone else is in the tank for the incompetent, community organizer.
History time: One of the first things Adolf Hitler did on assuming power in Germany was to muzzle to opposition press. What is Mr.O up to? Personally. I worry about that. Is this Fox attempt a feeler to see how far he can go?
I don't watch Fox news, other than local, and I feel their presentation & programming to be shallow, sensational, and childish. If this is the way they want to present their program material, it is their privilege, and if the public watches it, they are getting what they deserve.
As a favorite radio comentator in Tampa Florida say's [ WAKE UP AMERICA ]. The bush admin was hammered for not having enough Bird Flu vaccine and the Obama admin say's they don't have enough Swine Flu vaccine and they get a pass on CNN yesterday. Bush and Chenney were acused of causing oil to go up but yet the Obama admin gets a pass. The list goes on and on and this President gets bailed out by the Liberal media. I love fox news and I love the hard questions they ask and I can remember Bill O going after G.W Bush many time's on key issues.......Wake up America
Fox News is at the very bottom of my list of places to get news and I often disagree with their methods and opinions. That does not, however, mean that the White House should be allowed to silence what is the voice for many conservative Americans. I support the right of everyone to get their opinion out, regardless of political stance. Allowing the government to silence any venue because it represents a dissenting opinion is an incredibly dangerous road to go down
NPR is an unapologetic water boy for the democrat party and a miserable failure when it comes to reporting any news of substance.
Re comments of bias: I gave up on NPR some 25 years ago after years of giving monetary support to during their frequent begging campaigns.
I found over the years NPR to espouse more and more what the younger generation may now consider the "norm", but to me is Socialism. Not really surprising, given that NPR exists on the Government (read: tax payer) largess. I am just somewhat surprised they even bother with this kind of survey. What do you suppose they intend to do with it?
To "none":
LOL, you claim to be communist but then you add that ps at the end of your comment: "Ron Paul 2012". Words fail me.
The White House is embarrassing itself and needs to grow up.
Everybody knows NPR is financed by taxpayer dollars. Outside of playing classical music, they could not get a job anywhere else.
look that matter is yes fox news should ask anything they want but fox news is not fair and balanced they are tabloid journalism and should only be there if the magazines that have bigfoot on the cover are there as well they are corrupt get used to it you rightwing nutjobs also befor you yell at about punctuation i dont care and im not a librail as well im a communist also im gay so have fun with your poll that is obviously being hacked by some rightwinged pieces of monkey feces ps ron paul 2012
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cetwHTY4YeA
There was a comment out of another time of "unrest" that said something like, "I may not like what you have to say or agree with it, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." So was our country founded.
The President of The United States was elected to lead ALL citizens of this country. That includes the viewers of Fox News.
Surely the White House has more important matters to address than how a member of the supposedly-free press covers them.
I'm supporting the Constitution on this one.
Of course the WH wants to silence FOX News. The POTUS has shown he is actually afraid to answer thier questions.
