I am surprised that the reponses are equally distributed pro and con. I've made a study of what determines the political position of people considering that we all start from a clean slate meaning that opinion is learned. I've concluded that the elite and "victims" desire to control or willing to accept control hence pessimists. The freemen are willing to live and let live to make their own way without control hence optomists. Makes sense to me. Why half of the population are insistant upon control I cannot comprehend. I think that following declaration of independence half remained Royalists, loyal to The King. They pass the philosophy of being "bestowed" their right along to their offspring. Fox appeals to the freemen.

The White House is full of a bunch of socialists, including that moron in the oval office. They are leading this country down the wrong path and they are out to get whoever does not agree with them, mainly Fox News. I am truly worried about the direction of this country.
Good to see the mostly leftist NPR at least putting forward an open poll here. This Obama statist radical socialist pacifist Administration going after free speech, and or a free press, surely shoves a dagger of hypocrisy into their so called transparency and open venues for differing views, legislation, ways to aid America. There have been a few leftist media outlets which have warned the faux Messiah not to ruin the free press because after all , someday, the statists will be coming for NPR, KOS, MOVEON, and MSNBC. BTW, nice to see Fox continue as an alternative to the MSM bias with at least an out in the open view that they are against liberalism in general while allowing libs like Juan Williams, Bob Beckel et al to rant on.
Jennifer - 16 years ago
What the White House is engaging in is called Abuse of Power. The Press was not given Constitutional protection so that they could like the hand of government; the protection in the Constitution was designated so that the Press would be the Watchdog on govt. and report back to the People what the government was doing.
bob - 16 years ago
So, Fox has no right to ask the White House difficult questions? They have no right to investigate White House policies or activities?
And 50% of you actually believe that? I'm sad for America. I would have thought freedom of thought and expression would win out over silly ideology. Shame on you.
You may not like what they ask, but you should be far more concerned that this White House is trying to control the press.
O'Tuachair - 16 years ago
So, I guess it's only biased if there are conservatives on the air, never mind the torrent of liberal bias EVERYWHERE else...???
What the Liberal "mainstream" media should understand is that a threat by the federal gov against the freedom of the press, whether left or right leaning, is a threat to all free media outlets.
Dr. C. - 16 years ago
This is not a statistically valid poll (that is, representative of the nation) since, by and large, it caters to NPR listeners.
Granted Fox has some programs that are not "news" but those are much fewer than what the major networks have... so should we exclude ABC, CBS, etc also????
Wouldn't it be nice if News Stations and Reporters reported NEWS and stopped trying to make it! All channels seem to have the same problem, but Fox seems to be the station that is always trying to find fault instead of plain news.
RUFUS LEVIN - 16 years ago
I find that most conservative TV viewers tend to be pretty level headed until provoked by a lot of personal attacks and insults. Fox News tends on the whole, even when violently disagreeing with the White House or Congressional actions and policies, to be critical of the event, or the specific behavior, not of the person. Very few ad hominem attacks, although some very plain spoken calling out of untruths. They tend to present the specific backup facts to support their positions. I see that a lot of leftward leaners tend to insult and demean those of other views, or those that state their disagreements with the President or the majority Democratic Congress. I see that MSNBC and others tend to attack Fox instead of having meaningful exchanges of both sides of any issue. Therefore, although I do not always agree with Fox talking points, I certainly favor their journalism and demeanor. I would not waste a second listening to Keith Olbermann or to Ed on MSNBC. Rachel Maddow can have good points, but she often uses facial expressions and body english to make a ridicule statement about the conservatives, or the Fox news staff. On the whole, Fox seems more civilized and professional to me. I do think that Hannity gets carried away often, and I think Bill O'Rielly is rude in cutting off people trying to make a point. On ALL of the cable networks, there is a trend of shouting and raising voices and getting shrill talking over each other. I do not find that interesting nor acceptable at all.

Fox is just about the only news organization which attempts to provide more than the White House Kool Aid. Pretty soon the uniform of the day at the WH will be "brown shirts"
Jim from Deadwood - 16 years ago
Boy the comments sure don't reflect the poll #'s. Leave our freedom of speech alone!
Chris Gatenby - 16 years ago
I think the wording of the poll question misses the real point. What everyone should be worried about is if any branch of government is seeking to silence or censure the free expression of ideas and opinions in the press.
Personally, I'd like to see the current administration deliver on the promise of transparency and the promise of time for voters to read and give feedback on proposed legislation before it becomes law.
Of course, if the Obama team is so thin-skinned and defensive as to be bothered by Fox News, they'll probably continue to try to jam through legislation in the dark of night before the voters or even our elected officials have read it. If that doesn't bother you, it should.
geniemaker - 16 years ago
Fox News is the only news. The reality-impaired lame-stream media aka MSM is so far newsless, it takes Fox to dig about Obama's relationships with cheats, frauds, radicals and anti-Americans.
One only need to remember that he refuses to unseal his personal records and he thinks he is above the law.
Thank you Fox for bringing to light the real news.
I have to say whose ever declare the war with FOX news in the WH is not the brighest crayon in box... we stand for freedom of speech and freedom of press. The WH is the leader of this free world...and president to every American not just a select few. Don't the WH already has so much on their plate as is?!? Pick a fight that is worth fighting for!! We are not in Chicago...GIVE ME A BREAK!

My only comment is to anyone posting in favor of the Whitehouse's attempt at censorship of the media, Fox in particular, or any other member of the press. I suggest you obtain a copy of the US Constitution, read or even perhaps reread it, and you will find your answer in Amendment I, which has been a part of this great country of ours since 1791. It is written in extremely plain English, and is a vital part of the single greatest document ever written to govern people. Once you have read it, I suggest you recast your vote.
Lorrelle G - 16 years ago
I have to agree with Franklin P. I think that ALL networks should have access to news worthy items at the WH. I do believe there should be more strict controls to ensure that what is being reported is factual and authentic, not "hearsay" or manipulted documents; ie Dan Rather.
John - 16 years ago
The reality is that EVERY broadcast company has folks who are either way left or way right on the political spectrum. That in itself is not a valid measure of a liberal or conservative bias; rather, one must step back and examine the whole of what's being reported and how it's being reported. What's sad is that so many "reporters" (or are they simply talking heads?) don't check the facts, but simply read a script. To FOX News' credit, they check the facts and report the facts -- although the style of reports/"conversation", like Hannity's, belabor the issues a bit too much.
Michelle - 16 years ago
I commend other news networks for standing up for Fox News. Since the beginning of the Presidential Race, Obama has declined offers from Fox news reporters. My opinion is that Obama is scared to answer the tough questions, because he doesn't have the answers. Remember people, this man is in charge of our country and our military!!!! He should confidently be able to answer any question from ANY news source. As President of the United States, he has an obligation to answer questions that the public wants answered, no matter how they vote. The word racism is continuously thrown around if you don't agree with the liberals, well Obama and the other liberals need to get over their arrogance and excuses for not doing something, and get to work for the American people! Fox news is just the only news network that gives the negative with the positive. This is just another ploy by Obama and his administration to take our attention off of the fact that he has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!! Just like always blaming President Bush for his own incompetance as a President! What was America thinking when they voted this man into office? The Real Man that was not voted in was the only one of the two of them who had the experience to lead this country and our military. Our country is not one of his city projects!

I might not agree with everything that FOX puts out, but I will protect their right to do it, with my life if I have to. With this country in the shape that's it's in and a WH that seems to have no clue on how to deal with it, unless you think that spending and taking away your rights is the answer, we the people need every bit of information we can get on what the WH is up to. You think they are behind closed door with just a few dems in there, that they are coming up with a Health Care plan that is in the best interest of this country. If they were, the doors would be open and it would be on CSPAN like the big O promised. They are trying to serve their own political agenda, which in the end will work towards destroying this country. Obama has turned out to be just another in a long line of lying politicians, maybe even worse than some. I'm glad there is a FOX to keep poking at them to at least try and keep them honest.

My grandfather used to tell me that you never knew how deep the the crrek was until you got your butt in the water. We are in the water, and the creek is deep. Help!!!
Years ago a friend from Tanzania said, "America is the smartest nation in the entire world. Has it ever dawned on you that all three news channels report the very same thing in the exact same order?" I have thought about that a million times. So now, I celebrate the Fox News channel and their points of view b/c they are similar to mine. I do flip to the others like MSNBC for their point of view but I can't take it for very long. Especially that ugly woman that is so hateful. Ugh! (Rush takes a lot of heat for acting like that.) And just b/c folks question the President does not mean they are racists. They hate his white half also.

We fought a revolution to rid ourselves of a tyrannical government that taxed too much and bullied its citizens. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two of the most precious rights we have as a result of that revolution. When the White House or any government body starts limiting what people can say and limiting press participation to those who agree with their policies, it seems to me that we are coming eerily close to having come full circle, back to where the government was the enemy of the people and not the servant of the people.

NPR is a left leaning station. I am an independent with probably more conservative leanings the liberal, however, I travel in a lot of rural areas where all you can get is NPR. They do give you a world view on many topics, but as with anything people should get multitude of views and come to some of their own conclusions....Americans are lazy and don't do any research on political/economic/world issues they just spout what ever crap they hear on the major networks or CNN. I have come to the conclusion that the larger majority of people are simply idiots without any desire to develop their own ideas and opinions....it is easier to leave it up to the talking heads on both sides. Quite frankly, we should sweep the whole lot of Congress out on their tails...but most people won't do that...they would rather let their Congress call them "red necks", stupid, and ambivalent cowards.....time to say good bye...this should not be a career....no pension, no long term healthcare....On that note...Is Pelosi and her crew going to be the first to sign up for the new plan!!! Americans WAKE UP!!!

I am flabbergasted that a majority of any group of people in this country care so little about freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Even if you are a died in the wool liberal loon, you should still care that your rights are in jeopardy right now. The president of the United States has no right or business in starting a war with any single member of the press. It is what we have been fighting and dying to preserve for the last 233 years.

I am a longtime listener to Classical music on NPR - I long ago gave up paying attention to their news shows, because they are, quite simply, ill informed and inadeqately research, revealing more often than not, a decidedly left-ward slant.
It amazes and dismays to observe that a large proportion of the allegedly educated know so little recent history, nor is their any apparent deep understanding of the very nature of Truth-- genuine dialogue between separate chairs has long since evaporated as there has been a clear increase among the upcoming generation of a sense of entitlement - the almost complete lack of experience, and the absence of a sense of basic courtesy to one's contituency, now permeates the White House and Congress -- Jefferson and Washington must be asking, "whatever happened to Dignity of Office, and pledging one's "sacred Honor"? Alas, it is lost in the mire of such things as Sen. Murtha's virtually private international airport essentially in his backyard, built with millions of Tax dollars for example - and Fox alone reports this and innumerable other lapses of fundamental goodness. "Mr. Smith" has long since left Washington" -- While Fox does have opinion shows, it is 90% serious reporting which can be trusted - none of the other networks have even the slightest remnant of the true role of the 5th estate -- to hold the Government's feet in the fire - all the time. Thank you Fox NEWS>

I'm with Fox on this 100% Why is it that the White House can brag about thier ability to manipulate what the news media presents to us but when the white house can't get to play games with an apparently independant network, the liberals start to cry and whine. Basically if it's OK for them to do it, why is not good for anyone else. So typical of our current government these days!! Very disappointing but not a surprise by any stretch!!

Many comments express concern about the cozy relationship between the mainstream media and this administration.
Was it not a major problem when the media "cheerlead" the rush to war in Iraq?
Do we really need another administration without the checks and balances of a skeptical media?

Sorry,
In my last post I meant to say that it is the liberals who comprise the vast majority of my coworkers who are not open minded......
The few conservatives I know at work are very open, nice but are somewhat afraid to speak openly about their political leanings for fear of losing work.
Eyes Wide Open - 16 years ago
Wow, Congratulations Nut-Bags, the majority of you just proved yourselves unworthy of being allowed to vote.
First of all, Fox News was around and blowing the doors off CNN and MSNBC long before Obama was even elected to ANY office, let alone POTUS. So scratch option 3 off the list.
Second, to the one of posted some survey from a blantantly left-wing organization showing NPR leans right, go away or I will taunt you a second time, just ridiculous.
Third, I was a liberal for most of my life and only became a conservative when I started watching Fox and going to alternative sources that were attacked by my lefty friends as being "right-wing". The right-side of the story is NOT told properly on NPR or any of the other main-stream-left-wing media (CBS

It is unbelievable that this many people side with the WH on this. Even if you are a lib, to think what the WH says, for example, that MSNBC is more of a news station than FOX. Come on! Fox may lean a little to the right, but if they were not on the air, we would know nothing about what BO, et al are attemping to do to us. They are, in my opinion, the only news that isnt bought out by the BO admin.
If Fox goes away, the libs may get what they are asking for. True Communism. Then they will wonder why no one warned them.

This is truly sad. There is simply no way whatsoever to justify a US Government effort to marginalize any part of our Free Press.
Notably, Chavez is shutting down oppostion TV and Newspapers. His style of government has been publicly praised by numerous members of the Obama Administration. So, it's not really a surprise to see the WH try a stunt like this which, thankfully, has been rejected by the rest of the Media.
Why is it a surprise that many object to public funding for NPR if the majority of your listeners have so little understaning or appreciation of the US Constitution?
One is forced to wonder how many of the voters in this poll who support WH media surpression have in the past conversly voiced support for Free Speech expressions such as defacing either the Flag or symbols of Christianity?
It's pretty scary isn't it?
kyle - 16 years ago
I guess some of the NPR fans only respect free speech when it comes with a left wing slant? Let's all stand up for bible burning, flag burning, and anti American rhetoric in general... but when it comes to (the most popular) news channel that has an obvious conservative slant, they are no longer "news", and the WH can censor them?... here's a news flash for you liberals... ALL news has some angle. You have to look no further than the media created hysteria of the H1N1 vaccines to see that.

The problem is that BHO didn't relly fool 50% of the people; he didn't have to. All he needed to fool was about 5% of the people, convincing them to vote for him instead of the other guy. 1st Amendment guarantees that the press shall be free to both praise and condemn our president. For the Obama admin to deny Fox News access because they don't like Fox's slant, he is only giving us an even deeper look at his disdain for our Constitution.

Scary how effortlessly some people (liberals) are willing to stifle free speech. I guess, since none of them have ever read the Constitution, I shouldn't be surprised by these poll results. They'll be kicking and screaming when it's their free speech that is getting squashed.

The research Glenn Beck brings to the table is impressive. Even more impressive is how few of the news sources the White House approves of
have delved into the backgrounds of those making ground breaking decisions for our nations.
Bogus - 16 years ago
Is it not a little late to be worrying about what the Constitution says? Did this last election not decide once and for all that that aged document is obsolete? Really, if any part is invalid, the rest is also. So we have a president that refuses to prove once and for all that he was constitutionally qualified to run. We said "forget about it," "those requirements came from bigoted old white men." So what is the big deal about freedom of the press? Freedom of press/speech just keeps a bunch of old white rednecks in power, so let's ditch it and be done with it. Viva la Obama!
Ms. Burton - 16 years ago
Regardless of your political views, it is UNAMERICAN for any administration to decide that a major news source with opposing views is "illegitimate" That's communism folks.
Jackie - 16 years ago
The White House is way out of line on this one, and that stunt they tried to do by leaving Fox News out of the pool feed was simply a trial balloon to see if they could get away with marginalizing Fox even more than they already had previously tried to do when they sent out Obama's henchmen, Anita Dunn, David Axelrod and Rahm Emanual to talk trash about Fox.
Thankfully, the other networks recognized it for what it was, and understood that the next time, (providing they ever say anything negative about this administration) it could be one of them who is targeted by this radical WH. Fox News is doing the work that other so-called journalists are no longer willing to do. It seems that they only take their job seriously when there is a Republican president in office, and then they go overboard in their criticism.
With regard to those on this board who deny the liberal bias of NPR and other news various news media, I will simply quote what Bernard Goldberg said on that issue. "Does a fish know that it's wet?" ;)
I voted for FOX because like the wording says to number 2, they ask questions tha everyone else (who're busy suckling up don't) because they are trying to make sure everyone is aware of exactly what's going on, what chicanery is afoot, and the sheer lunacy of the czars being appointed, ie their ideas - like Bloom being anti market, anti capitalism, etc or Van Jones etc - I have yet to see an untruthful quote by Beck or anyone else - especially when they show the video or read from authors' own words in publications.
I am glad the others finally woke up and realised that today it's FOX for their dissent or whatever, but tomorrow it could be anyone of them if they don't toe the line so to speak. (Typical totalitarian type tactics - suppress or repress or threaten)
Susan - 16 years ago

in response to Matthew Lee- Current.org is a public radio/TV industry publication. Do you think their "independent" studies would ever show anything BUT that they are right in their opinions or views. They are not neutral, they are part of it. They are affiliated with WNET.org...public radio/TV.
Do you really think they would come out and say "public radio/TV actually are liberal in their interpretation of current events??"
Quoted off their website..."For nearly 25 years, Current has been the newspaper about public broadcasting in the United States. It's read by people involved in public TV and public radio — station employees, independent producers, local volunteers and board members, viewers and listeners, state and national policymakers and others. Current is an editorially independent journalistic service of Current LLC, an affiliate of WNET.org (formerly Educational Broadcasting Corp.), operator of public TV stations WNET and WLIW in New York City."

After 'Rathergate', the debacle with doctored images by the AP, a tabloid breaking the Edwards love child story, Jason Blair's plagiarism, and bloggers regularly finding/fixing problems with stories in the media, there aren't ANY fit to call themselves journalists any more. Of the ones that try, FOX is the least dishonest.

Just because you call an apple an orange doesn't mean it's not still an apple. And just because Fox balances out the rest of the left-leaning media by asking real questions and not just throwing up pre-screened softballs to the Administration all the time doesn't mean that Obama should try to blackball them from important news coverage.
This administration has done enough overreaching in its short stint as far as power grabs are concerned - let's not let them dupe us into giving them control of the media as well...
Richard Howard - 16 years ago
I am shocked at the un-American sentiment the White House supporters show in this poll. "Fair and Balanced"? Well that opens a very smelly can of worms. The New York Times has had a Left agenda for many years. They aren't "fair and balanced" in my opinion. I would not however exclude them from access to the White House under any administration. That is censorship and reveals an improper agenda. No political party or administration should ever be allowed to decide what constitutes a "news' orgaization. Even the Left news orgainzations should be up in arms over this violation of our rights to free speech.

I don't really see Fox News as an arm of the Republican party. Fox News is really an arm of the Rupert Murdoch, pro-Fortune 500 companies' machine. Fox News and most of its reporters and commentators have one message for all Americans:
Shut up and do as you are told. Protest against any White House administration or group of politicians we do not approve of, and bow slavishly to any administration we're totally in love with a la the former Bush/Cheney Junta (that last word taken from a quote by one Mr. Colin Powell).
The Obama White House has attacked Fox News for telling outright lies, fabrications, and simply making things up. Fox News went to court some years back and got the Supreme Court to rule in its favor that they have the right to lie to you. They do not have to report actual news regardless of the flavor, slant, or bias you want to hear the news reported with. They can tell you complete and total lies, and do not have to correct anything that they make up.
But that's just opinions-being-reported-as-facts disinformation run amok. Fox always sides with the big companies over the little ones. They always side with those who have the most money and the most power. And they have a special report for all of you faithful watchers of Fox News:
Shut up and do as we tell you, and don't ever dare think for yourself.
The entire mainstream media is worthless drivel to me. They report nothing but crap with only the thinnest trickle of news, and Fox News should rename itself the Rupert Murdoch Propaganda Network (RMPN). All Rupert's favorite opinions all the time, and you Americans can go pound sand for all I care. That's the Rupert Murdoch way, so why you're all busy mooning over the nonsense coming out of Fox News, you're not actually getting any real information.
And keeping you all scared, confused, and completely uninformed is Fox News' job number 1. And if you're not scared and confused, then they haven't done their job. More and more, however, the mainstream media is working to keep you just as poorly informed as Fox News.

I don't understand why the want to be socialists/communists, American Flag Haters, etc, don't go somewhere they will be happy. They obviously aren't happy here and we certainly aren't happy that they're here ... simple solution.

It seems Fox is the only one pointing out the obvious. Heads actually role when Fox speaks. Why is that? That's also why they have such high ratings and viewership because a majority of Americans are waking up to a government run amok. The other MSM's just are lap dogs for liberals and that's not news worthy, its actually boring to say the least.
Who are those people who are supporting the WH? Don't they realize what they are supporting? When the "national police" come to take them away, will they then remember this poll?
Freedom is being challenged right here and now in this United States. I am 62 years old and would never have believed that I would witness what I am seeing come out of Washington and especially the WH.

When I went to read the comments I assumed that they would almost all be bashing Fox. I was pleasantly surprised to see so much support for them instead! In most (not all) cases Fox backs up it's stories. They are called liars but no one *White House included* will back up that claim! That should be a clue to everyone that something's just not right......hummm......could Fox be onto something & the White House be running from it?????

If Fox News is not allow to ask questions or be at any White House press room meetings, then the liberal-biased MSNBC should not be there either. I do not like Sean Hannity, O'Reily or most of the guests they have on the network. However, I feel that constitutionally they are allowed to express their point of view. Not all of their programs are slanted; however those previously mentioned and guests such as Chaney, Rove and some others really give them a bad name. The White House has plenty of opportunity to spread their opinions and they do so. What happened to a two-party system? Personally, I think we could stand a third party. Thank you.

NPR is quite liberal so the results thus far are not surprising. NPR is not nearly as liberal or far left as say MSNBC. If this gets spread around long enough so that more conservative minds are included, I would think that the % might change. Thanx

oh please people...I can't stand to watch so many people say that Fox News is so biased when if anything, CNN and allllllllllllllll the major networks out there, including the journalists are so OBVIOUSLY biased in the other direction! It's disgusting and annoying. I'm 23 yrs old and most people my age have no idea what's happening in politics, and quite frankly, I don't watch the news or follow any of this garbage because its so irritating to me. The bottom line is, the press/media SHOULD be reporting EVERYTHING that happens...not just the headlines that make the democratic party look good. I'm shocked at how much ISN'T reported...thank God Fox News has the guts to do it. And for the materialistic, uninformed shallow people who voted for Obama just because he's supposedly "hot"...Sean Hannity kicks his ass.
Darrell - 16 years ago
Simple Concept here... If you don't like a particular program / network, PLEASE, for the sake of your sanity, don't watch it.
Most TV's I'm familiar with allow you to change the channel. For example, I don't like the Food Network, so guess what, I don't watch it. (Of course my wife loves Food Network). But, I don't call it names or call to put it and the people working there off the air and out of work.
If you don't like Fox News...or CNN...or NPR, please don't watch/listen to them. But don't deny them access because you don't like them. If you feel a particular network is harmful to you and your family, you can likely block it from being viewed in your home.

Of all the problems we have, and the ONLY decision this administration can make is to criticise Fox News? Idiots!!
CnUSee - 16 years ago
I don't know how anyone can say that FOX is biased. When the tea party marched on the Mall in Washington, DC not one other news agency covered this event but FOX. I think that a gathering of over 100,000 people is pretty darn news worthy. For most news stations that always seem to support the liberal stance it is about time people support FOX so at least you can see both sides of the story.
LBartell - 16 years ago
It's not a question of bias, but now become a first amendment issue. The White House is trying to limit free speech just because they don't like the opinions or legitimate questions being expressed. Let's not return to the Nixon era of an enemies list.

Since I am one of the producers of food for this nation (agriculture), I have little time for comments, but since you ask. I listen to Fox News in order to learn what is really happening. Glenn Beck is bringing forth information that has already been studied for years by folks who read and study and use the internet for information and not relie on any "news " stations. The crime of the century is that no journalists from major media vetted Barrack Hussein Obama as they did George Bush, John McCain and even the Clintons. Why was Pres. Obama listed as a "foreign exchange student" at a California College? Why won't government release the passport information he used when he visited Pakistan as a college student? Why show a certificate of live birth rather than a "birth certificate" for his birth that he claims was in Hawaii, but shows no hospital, doctor, etc? The media failed this country, but did they have an agenda in doing so?

Okay, so are the only people leaving comments Fox News fans? How can I believe this poll leaning against Fox News and then read the comments, most of which are for Fox News?
Me thinks this is not a fair truthful poll. Just an observation....

Only 2% believe both sides aren't to blame? I thought NPR listeners were smarter than this.
YES - Fox is biased. Right there with all of the other Op-Ed alphabet networks which have killed investigative journalism.
YES - The WH is playing it up because they don't want people asking hard questions about serious issues like Healthcare/Tea Parties/Town Hall Meetings/ACORN funding. It's not a shot at Fox per se; that's just a bonus.
Richard - 16 years ago
The journalism schools all teach this basic leson to all aspiring journalists: Who, What, When, Where, & How. When is the last time any of the networks (newspapers for that matter) have adhered to that basic tenet of journalism except for Fox News. I'm not including any of the op-ed shows or columns. All of the rest sit aroung waiting for the press hand outs, print them as news and collect their pay checks.
The WH attack on Fox News is a thinly disguised attack on the First Amendment. If that goes, get ready for the consentration camps. "Those who don't know history are condemened to re-live it".

Imagine IF GWB...
had spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?
had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift,
had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?
had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?
had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?
had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?
had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?
had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
So, tell me again, are these issues expounded upon, as they should be, by the other networks? Aren't they issues that concern every one of us? Are they lies? Set me straight.
What is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry.. He's done all this in eight months -- so you'll have three years and four months to come up with an answer

How can a news media be fair and balanced if the only questions put to this administration are pre-scripted and approved by this administration. How can anything be presented fairly if there is no apposing view points, if we can not discuss those views, if we can not be heard without being called names like children on a play ground. America is great for this reason... We the people own it. We have the right to hear all the sides without censorship. We the people have the right to form our own opinion; good, bad, or indifferent… this is OUR right, not anyone else’s.
Free speech must be protected for all. whether it be leaning right or left. i find it funny that when the republicans were in power the left felt the need to voice their discontent and the right wished they would go away; now the right is voicing their discontent and the left thinks it is fine to squelch their voice.
Remember in America the right to disagree is a precious right that many countries wish they had.

I vote for Fox - and it's to bad that there wasn't a movie about a President that Obama could have played - instead of making his own...oh my! Who knows he might just move the White House to Hollywood! And as the story goes...
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for
everyone.
If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat
his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a black man or Hispanic are conservative, they see themselves as
independently successful.
Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of
government protection.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his
situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
(Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping
for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs, and is
embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in
labor
and then sues.
If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a
good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."

boboj - 16 years ago
NPR means "national public radio", funded by taxpayer dollars. They are required to "show no bias in their reporting" yet just listen carefully to their reporting on national stories and you will find little nuances in them, usually siiding with the administration and liberals. Using cute little recorded background noises like automobiles running, cows, chickens, people talking etc, etc., as the reporter speaks, they want you to think that their reporting is pure and takes no sides.
Fox news is the most listend to network in the country and this disturbs Obama and his following of zombies. The White House communications tank contiunally accuses Fox of distorting news and giving false reporting, yet they have not yet ONE TIME pointed to something from Fox that is not accurate or true. Had it not been for Fox, our tax dollars would have continued to fund ACORN and it's campaign to get democrats elected in every election. possibly the 4,000 questionable votes in Minnesota, collected by ACORN, would not have helped elect the clown Al Franken, who on Air American called for the World Court to try Bush and Chaney as "war criminals" also accusing them of engineering the attacks on 911, going to war in Iraq under a "lie" that there were weapons of mass destruction there, yet intelligence agencies from many countries in Europe also "verified from all of their sources that Sadam did have WMD's".
These facts were brought to the attention of Fox viewers while the other media, NBC, CBC, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC, continued to attack the Bush administraton for leading the country to war for the "Oil". So far, have we benefited from the "oil" in Iraq?????
When the rest of the country wakens and sees the fleeting array of liberties flying down the lane of oblivion created by the White House, the unfulfilled promises of the Obama mouth, the government takeover of private business, the attacks on anyone who does not agree with Obamaism, they nay someday say "we should have paid attention to what came out of Fox before they were shut down by our government."
Dell Puffinaire - 16 years ago
Gosh Darn, this is much closer than I would have thought. Since NPR is publicly funded and the folks (with very few exceptions) are more Liberal than
most anyone in this country I would have anticipated an 80-20 split at best.
This administration has become a joke. I didn't like McCain's campaign nor his stand on several issues and thought that Obama might really make a change for the better but all we received are Chicago Politics and creeping Socialism. Fox is telling it straight. No Lies, fabrications or mistatements like MSNBC. Biased, yes, but they don't lie.
Marjac - 16 years ago
I find it amazing that NPR has to even ask the question. For anyone that gets his/her news information from other than NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, etc. the truth is self-evident. The WH, and Congress, have a complete distain for anyone that disagrees with their point of view (witness the name calling of the folks participating in tea parties and town hall meetings) and the way the WH has demonized FOX, the Better Business Bureau, drug companies, doctors (other than the AMA which only represents 17% of doctors), and insurance companies. I'm 67 and never in my lifetime have I witnessed our government demonstrating such a hate for the people in this country. We are becoming another soviet/marxist country where the government controls everything (including the majority of the new media) and mark my words if the people don't stand up and say "NO" we'll be no better than Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, etc. I'm very afraid for our country.
No wonder I don't watch NPR. You should lose all government funding. I see NPR as marxist and communist!

CNN an honest news organization??? Give me a break. I remember when they rigged the old Chevy pickup trucks to explode when hit in the side to show how dangerous the side saddle gas tanks were. At least Fox backs up what they say with video and audio from the actual people they quote.

When did we become unable to do for ourselve. The present administration believes that we cannot take care of our own needs, tell right from wrong, teach our children how to live, use a fire arm, get a job, provide insurance and the list goes on. People when the government starts to brain wash the public into the belief that they need them to provide for the huddled masses. We become the social dpendants of a power which will then have total control. Yea it seems far fetched that smart Americans would ever let that happen. But if you really pay attention to all that has gone on since our new president has taken office you will see that this is happening a little piece at a time and we are letting it happen. Those of us that are doing for ourselves are becoming the minority. I believe that the new generation likes being taken care of and that is a mistake they really don't want to make. We have become spoiled and this will be our demise. Ask some one who has joined us from another country that doesn't have the freedoms we have and they will tell you they see it coming. So you better enjoy them while you have them. Your freedoms are getting taken away one piece at a time and there is no one to blame but our selfish greed and our blind attitudes.

To anyone thinking this poll says or proves anything definitive: grow up. It's an internet poll.
There is no effort at random sampling; no analysis of the demographics of who voted; no attempt to ensure that we're really looking at a cross-section of the American public. This is a gimmick designed to garner page views. There's nothing wrong with that, but reading anything into the results - from either side - just makes you look dumb.

I find it unbelievable that the White House has nothing better to do than go after a TV News station, and that anyone would support their attempt to silence what the W.H. doesn't want the public to hear-the TRUTH! What do any of you who voted "with the White House" not get that this is against the Constitutional rights of free speech & freedom of the press, and that it is blatant censorship? Isn't that Un-American, or does that only count if its directed towards Liberal biased sources like the rest of the "news" stations? You would have had a hissy fit if Bush or any former administration had attempted this-& so would I! The Obama Administration is pitching a tantrum like spoiled children, acting no better than Chavez & the like. Fox30 has the TOP 5 ratings, meaning the MAJORITY of people want to watch them. Just as many Liberals, Libertarians, etc. watch FOX30 as do Conservatives-why? Because they TRUST they'll get the best chance at honest info in a NON hateful presentation! Most often than not, those who bash Fox30 NEVER watch them, they're mindlessly led by the nose & TOLD to hate FOX30. It's STILL a free country-don't like um-don't watch um'! But don't take MY rights away! The lines of Freedoms crossed can also be crossed against you-don't support this encroachment on OUR rights!

Until a little over a year ago, we were still on an antenna and could not receive Fox News. When we got cable and I was finally able to watch Fox News, I was shocked to find that I had not been given the news on ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS. If it were not for Fox, I would still be in the dark on many issues. The majority of Fox programming is news, fair and balanced. Beck, Hannity, and O'Reilly do not claim to be news programs. They are opinion programs and identified as such. I don't believe you can beat Sheppard Smith and Bret Baier for fair and balanced news reporting. Although I watch the morning news offerings less frequently, I find them to be fair and balanced as well. I am thankful that Fox News is not only there, but growing in viewership. We should fear a president who will attempt to muzzle any news organization, liberal, conservative, or middle of the road.

I like Fox, And so what if they lean a little to the right, Juan Williams, Alan Combes, & Bob Beckel, are always on shows with dissent. O'Reiley can't be called an extreme right winger, if anything he's closer to the middle. Greta's a moderate. If Fox is banned by the White House, extreme left wing MSNBC should be also, that would be "Fair & Balanced

There used to be an old maxim when this nation was at least apparently "free" which stated, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend TO THE DEATH your right to say it!"
My, my! As promised, things HAVE changed! But the "change" the Obama Administration and Congress are giving us is a "change" from freedom to subjugation and from a representative republic to a socialist tyranny. I wonder how many who voted for "change agent" Obama because of his "feel good" undefined slogan "hope" and "change" envisioned this particular "change"?
Sorry, folks! Slogans are for idiots, not thinking men and women. I guess we get the government we deserve.
Gus - 16 years ago
Amazing that most of the resposes are PRO Fox's right to freedom of speech, here on the comments and the numbers lean the other way...somebodys messing with the numbers I think! As an Independent I believe in the constitution and thus I have a hard time agreeing with either party. But for the Liberals who are crying that the One got his hand caught in the cookie jar on this one ...don't worry I am sure he will use the "Fairness Doctorine" to get rid of talk radio and probably hamper FOX that way...Partisan means divicive and remember "A house divided cannot stand"...maybe thats what the politicians want....something to think about...be an independent...think for yourself.
What the White House is engaging in is called Abuse of Power. The Press was not given Constitutional protection so that they could like the hand of government; the protection in the Constitution was designated so that the Press would be the Watchdog on govt. and report back to the People what the government was doing.
This is not a statistically valid poll (that is, representative of the nation) since, by and large, it caters to NPR listeners.
Granted Fox has some programs that are not "news" but those are much fewer than what the major networks have... so should we exclude ABC, CBS, etc also????
Would the White House prefer Pravda?
Wouldn't it be nice if News Stations and Reporters reported NEWS and stopped trying to make it! All channels seem to have the same problem, but Fox seems to be the station that is always trying to find fault instead of plain news.
Boy the comments sure don't reflect the poll #'s. Leave our freedom of speech alone!
I have to agree with Franklin P. I think that ALL networks should have access to news worthy items at the WH. I do believe there should be more strict controls to ensure that what is being reported is factual and authentic, not "hearsay" or manipulted documents; ie Dan Rather.
For Sherry. Tell your friend in Tanzania, "even the commercials". Ever wonder why??? You have to be more specific on the woman, hateful covers lots of ground on some of that stuff..
Fox News Reports prior to Van Jones Resigning: 51
CNN: 5
MSNBC: 2
ABC: 1
Fox News Reports of ACORN corruption: 133
CNN: 90
MSNBC: 10
ABC: 2
and who was right on those?
oh, yeah.
Game, Set, Match, and that's all I got to say about that!
Isn't asking this question on NPR like asking alcoholics to choose between beer and water...
"Do you think beer is good, or is water better? Perhaps neither becuase you can't live on beer alone."
The fact that anyone voted in support of Fox is a bit surprising.
Why is it so hard for everyone to be normal? We are all survivors who can get out of bed, go to work and support ourselves. Everyone and everything should be straight across the board with 15% flat tax and no handouts for anyone. Live within your means and be responsible!
This is the reality as I see it:
1. President Obama won the election b/c most of us thought he wouldn't be a typical politician.
2. Turns out, he is a typical politician.
Surely to God, he can't censor a news station.....or can he?
Bravo, Megan!
You just delivered the coup de grace to this whole argument. My hat is off to you!
Fox News Reports prior to Van Jones Resigning: 51
CNN: 5
MSNBC: 2
ABC: 1
Fox News Reports of ACORN corruption: 133
CNN: 90
MSNBC: 10
ABC: 2
and who was right on those?
oh, yeah.
Do we really need another administration without the checks and balances of a skeptical media?
wingnuts trying their hardest to votebomb the poll hahahaha
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2373884/posts
only 17,000 more to go guys!!
CNN--fair and unbaised ???? CNN -- a news organization ??? So glad the other major networks woke up and refused the interview if Fox was excluded--it is only a matter of time when it will be their turn to raise the ire of the elected 'officials'. Surely all three networks cannot continue to agree with Obama and his clan on everything forever !!!
Sorry,
In my last post I meant to say that it is the liberals who comprise the vast majority of my coworkers who are not open minded......
The few conservatives I know at work are very open, nice but are somewhat afraid to speak openly about their political leanings for fear of losing work.
You voted 8 times Steve? you must be a liberal.... can't even be honest to yourself...
as far as NPR... I wish I had a dime for every time they pushed their "green" agenda with global warming media... the world is going to end... the polar ice caps and glaciers are all going to melt, then refreeze, then we're going to die of sunstroke, then we're going to be frozen in our homes...pffftt... but all we need to do to make it better is to drive an F'ing hybrid car and use flourecent lighting
This Poll is broken and a joke! I voted 8 times yesterday. A game not work playing. Anybody who credits this poll is also a JOKE!
The White House is wrong to call out Fox News - it is beneath the dignity of the Office.
I guess some of the NPR fans only respect free speech when it comes with a left wing slant? Let's all stand up for bible burning, flag burning, and anti American rhetoric in general... but when it comes to (the most popular) news channel that has an obvious conservative slant, they are no longer "news", and the WH can censor them?... here's a news flash for you liberals... ALL news has some angle. You have to look no further than the media created hysteria of the H1N1 vaccines to see that.
Dewayne Burgess:
The problem is that BHO didn't relly fool 50% of the people; he didn't have to. All he needed to fool was about 5% of the people, convincing them to vote for him instead of the other guy. That was enough to swing the victory to him. The rest of the electorate who voted for him were probably "true believers"...
NPR is to the left exactly what Fox is to the right.
Fox just makes more noise telling their side of the story.
1st Amendment guarantees that the press shall be free to both praise and condemn our president. For the Obama admin to deny Fox News access because they don't like Fox's slant, he is only giving us an even deeper look at his disdain for our Constitution.
Poll not fair-you can vote as many times as you like. Real polls do not let the same computer vote twice.
Regardless of your political views, it is UNAMERICAN for any administration to decide that a major news source with opposing views is "illegitimate" That's communism folks.
With all of the socialist and communist advisors in the White House it is no surprise that this administration is attemping to silence dissenters and negate freedom of the press.
The only place to find acccurate news and not Obama propaganda is Fox News.
Whos freedom of speech should be lost next? Maybe yours. Since when does the Executive Branch of the U.S. government decides freedom of the press. NPR you should be scared to death and behind fox all the way!!
in response to Matthew Lee- Current.org is a public radio/TV industry publication.
Critical thinking should not be trumped by beliefs or hope.
If it had not been for Fox, none of us would have known of the ACORN constpiracy, communist Van Jones in Obama's government, and the admiration of the Obama communications director for Mao Tse Tung, the Stalinist dictator of China, who murdered millions.
Fox, at least provides balance news at reports administration foibles as the news media are supposed to do.
The FOX News discussion is all a political fabrication by this Administration.
FOX News reports good news and their commentary shows report factual opinions. This Administration is making a big mistake to take on a news organization. Which news organization will be next?
Probably one of the ones that no one watches anyway ... foolish to bring this up. Lowers the respect for this Adminsitration and shows they are far from infalible .....
Feasting in Dachas while the masses eat Borscht and Cabbage comes to mind.
Listen here, you cry babies at the White House, if MSNBC was allowed at the White House press room during the Bush years, Fox should be allowed during the Obama years. Grow a spine and stop whining!!!!
Idiots!!
^^Wish I could change aren't to ARE - I changed my sentence midway...^^
ACORN has been ordered to stay on their computers until the dems are in front of FOX...anyone can vote a million times each if they have the time...it's a normal dem farce...just call it Pelosi Soup for Idiots
Give me a break! NPR unbiased?
Get real!
